It's good to see the bees about, after hearing they were in decline.

Re: Today in pictures
I don't know.
I had the sheets out drying yesterday and when I brought them in there was a huge fat bee nestling among them. I captured it very carefully and released it back into the wild. What do you mean Clayton isn't wild? |
Re: Today in pictures
I'm coming down Clayton this morning to feed my son's cat as he is away with work.He live at the bottom end in Riverside View and I've never been down to the river near him so I am taking my camera.

Re: Today in pictures
Is it just me or do others have problems with the native Silverlight Image Viewer?
We have had a number of small birds viewing the bird box at the back of the house, including cold tits and blue tits. A pair of blue tits appear to have settled in and are flitting backwards and forwards with nest material. I have been working in the back and they are happily coming and going while I am around. http://www.yoolgedit.co.uk/thingstod...5birds-051.jpg Their early morning singing is a delight to listen to although it starts at 0530. It could be so much worse, we had a family of magpies out there last year and they would have woken the dead. http://www.yoolgedit.co.uk/thingstod...5birds-221.jpg |

Today was a trip to check the bluebells, so as you would expect there are a lot of bluebell shots. Spring Wood in the sunshine, for anyone going to look at the flowers, perhaps another week and they will be out more, they are only just starting to flower, so not a lot of blue to be seen. They have put the concrete bases in for the ticket machines, so not much longer now before it costs £1 between 8am and 5pm to park.

Today in Pictures, time to see if Priestly Clough has started its conversion to green.
1. Heading up Woodnook Vale and then left down to Priestly. 2. Marestails, these are the ones that get about 5' high. 3. Standing on the bridge, always a bad idea, water has to be wet. 4. That's better, although getting down was not as easy as first though. 5. Wild Garlic just starting to send up a flower spike, right next to Lesser Celandine. 6. Heading back for a bit of nose bag. 7. The sunshine has brought out the Wood Sorrel, a pretty flower but often overlooked due to its size. 8. Not much tree canopy yet, giving Wild Garlic a chance to flower, most of the green you see the Garlic (Ransoms) 9. Heading back to the car. 10. I used to play here when what you see was lodges. |
Re: Today in pictures
I used to play there too.....when the lodges were there....though I never told Ma, I would have got skelped.

Re: Today in pictures
Lovely pics Jen.That is where all the butterflies are then....your garden!
Have to say that concrete and paving stones has not much to offer them...the butterflies I mean. |
Re: Today in pictures
We only see the blue tits first thing in the morning. The time varies but today it was 7am.
http://www.yoolgedit.co.uk/thingstod...uetits-066.jpg The sun is just in the right spot at that time of day, maybe that is why they visit us then. http://www.yoolgedit.co.uk/thingstod...uetits-087.jpg It is fascinating watching them and in a way I am glad they are not around all day - I am in DIY mode and if they were always outside, nothing would get done. The photos are taken through the dining room window from a tripod mounted camera. I use a remote shutter release which means I can sit back, enjoy the show and still get the pics I want. http://www.yoolgedit.co.uk/thingstod...uetits-093.jpg I am still trying to get a decent shot of the pair of them together. She looks grumpy this morning, must be a woman thing :) http://www.yoolgedit.co.uk/thingstod...uetits-113.jpg |

1. Its always good to start flat on your face. 2. Followed by a wet bit. 3. Alright two then. 4. Up close and personal with the cherries. 5. I believe this is Tinker Brook passing through. 6. Before. 7. And after. 8. Cherry blossom and a clear blue sky, bliss. 9. Around the highest part, everything has a green haze. 10. Exit onto the playing fields. |

Was a rubbish day yesterday...so I spent my day gainfully employed.
Making two special cards...OK it didn't take me ALL day. Here are the results......along with a little flying thing...the colours suggest it might be a moth...unless anyone out there knows any different. 1&2) I have been asked to make this card by an unromantic chappie...for his lady. The card is shaped like an envelope with a little card to go inside...because it does not stand up on its own.... 3) is the stand for the card to go on. 4) Another little birthday card.....the inside showing. 5) the front of the card...it closes with a little bit of velcro 6) the hand made envelope to go with the card. 7) A little moth (I think) |

Re: Today in pictures
Sunday 26th April.
A beautiful sunny day and an opportunity to take part in a unique walking event, The Welly Walk. The event was held to raise money for St. John's Hospice in Morecambe and offered over 1000 people the opportunity to walk the 4km route of the, under construction, M6 to Heysham link road. I did take my wellies but they were not needed as most of the ground was firm and dry http://www.yoolgedit.co.uk/thingstod...lywalk-002.jpg I have viewed the site from the outside on numerous occasions and the opportunity to walk the route could not be passed up. Starting from the car park of Lancaster & Morecambe College, this big headed builder was entertaining the children and some of the adults, while we waited our turn to set off. http://www.yoolgedit.co.uk/thingstod...lywalk-024.jpg These are the support pillars which will eventually support the bridge over Torrisholme Road. http://www.yoolgedit.co.uk/thingstod...lywalk-061.jpg This construction is the bridge over the West Coast Main Line and the area where I am standing will eventually be in-filled to the height of the structure, forming a high banking. http://www.yoolgedit.co.uk/thingstod...lywalk-071.jpg This is the previous construction viewed from the side and the train came along at just the right moment. We were informed that 40,000 tonnes of concrete had been poured into it so far. http://www.yoolgedit.co.uk/thingstod...lywalk-105.jpg This arched bridge, over the canal, is the longest spanned, pre-cast arch bridge in the world. and will form part of a winged wall when finished. It is also the shortest tunnel on the Lancaster Canal http://www.yoolgedit.co.uk/thingstod...lywalk-140.jpg This is the cutting under Kellet Lane, which is a back road into Lancaster from the North. This impressive cutting has meant removing millions of tonnes of earth and transporting it further down the construction site. http://www.yoolgedit.co.uk/thingstod...lywalk-148.jpg This is the crane which will lift the bridge sections for the new crossing of the River Lune. http://www.yoolgedit.co.uk/thingstod...lywalk-161.jpg This is the site of Costain's nerve centre, by the side of but high above the River Lune and the end of the official walk. The rusty beam in the foreground is one of the bridge sections already in place. The arched bridge in the centre will have been crossed by many of you but you just wouldn't realise it. It carries the M6 over the River Lune, next to junction 34. In the background is Caton Moor Wind Farm which is one of my favourite local walks. The walk was very enjoyable and ended with a cup of tea and a chocolate chip muffin. As it was such a lovely day I declined the opportunity to go back to the college by bus and chose instead to walk back and make it a 7 mile walk. http://www.yoolgedit.co.uk/thingstod...lywalk-168.jpg The canal wildlife were building nests. http://www.yoolgedit.co.uk/thingstod...lywalk-210.jpg While others were messing about in boats. |

A mixed bag from the past couple of weeks - photos on the run :)
Miss Pris 'meets' her first squirrel, from the safety of her living room. Squirrel is not amused. A quick drive in the country - no green to speak of yet! A visit to a weaving and spinning guild open house, complete with Aunty and adorable lambs. The lambs were only there for a couple of hours, so as not to stress them too much, as well as their mothers. |

Huncoat Pit was today's exploration, the scramble bikes are still ripping it up, on the plus side the ground is dry and not as muddy as was my last visit. I was expecting more blue this time, I was disappointed.
1. The top end of the site are littered with these huge rocks, no idea as to there origin. 2. Despite the overnight rain and sleet the water flow is on the gentle side. 3. Just time to dip it in the water. 4. Small patches of Wood Anemones are dotted around the waters edge. 5.You wouldn't guess the motorway is just over the hill to the right and a field away. 6. Seed heads of the Coltsfoot plant. 7. Looking down the site from the top end. 8.The Persimmon Meteor that fell to Earth in 1946 collapsing tunnel 7 belonging to the National Coal Board, NO it isn't, its just a big rock. 9. Back to the blue bits and wet bits. 10. And with that last shot it was time to leave, a rather sunny but chilly outing. |

Today was a walk in the rain up the Coppice, and down again as well.
1. Well it is May, Mayflowers. 2. Its nice to see the fuzzy green return. 3. Time to dip my bum in the water. 4. There are not many Bluebells around the coppice, just a few drifts here and there. 5. Marsh Marigold in a location you would expect, wet bits. 6. Flowering despite the harsh location. 7. The hard paths make a difference, I can come down on my skateboard now. 8. One of those "tucked away" locations. 9. Despite the weather you can feel the grass growing. 10. That's it for today, things are a bit moist, time to head back. |

You were almost expecting the dogs to chase off into the distance. The top ten didn't float my boat at all.....and to be honest I could not see the skill in the pictures that made it into the top ten.......a rock isn't going to move......nor is a lightbulb or a set of outside bistro furniture. There were many very good artistic pictures....of which yours was one. I will go back to the library before the exhibition ends and capture the picture of the eagle in flight......the definition of the feathers, the suggestion of speed was awesome. It would definitely have been in MY top ten had I been a judge.....sadly i wasn't. |

Today in Pictures, As it was a holiday today everywhere was busy.
1. I have walked above this tunnel many times and never noticed it, I did have to climb over a barbed wire fence and down a steep slope, and then reverse the process after, so not going to do it again any time soon. 2. This tree originally wanted to be a bush, then had a career change. 3. The target for today, Churn Clough reservoir. 4. A new twist on a wet bit, long distance wet bits. 5. Sabden tucked away in the base of the hills. 6. Still looking long distance, I wont get wet this way. 7. That's better. 8. Another cloudscape. 9. Almost green rolling hills. 10. Its a sign. |

Some eejut decided to have their Birthday on a Bank Holiday and as if that wasn't enough, some other eejuts decided to go to Malham.
After a great trip via Settle, we arrived in Malham at 1030 and it was already chocker block with pesky tourists. We waited for the other team members in the delightful Lister Arms and enjoyed tea and toast. After a walk up to the cove and up onto the top, keeping well back from the edge, we made our way back to a now, very busy Lister Arms for lunch. Return trip via Stainforth and a stop off at the Crook o' Lune picnic area for a bit of caterpillar hunting, Swift spotting and for a few random photos. |
Re: Today in pictures
Lovely Pics...belated Happy Birthday.
Looks as though it was a beautiful day for you too. |
Re: Today in pictures
Thanks - It was my step Daughter's Birthday (The Reluctant Hiker), I was one of the eejuts who thought Malham was a good destination on a Bank Holiday, I have been told I should be old enough to know better.

Re: Today in pictures
We should have had lunch when we got there at 1030, it was lovely and quiet in the pub then. When we got in after our trek, outside was chocker and inside was a bit quieter, we managed to get a table for all 5 of us - well a table for 4 and another on the end for the odd one out. They were very busy but the service was brilliant, if a little understandably slow. It was just a pity that we were so far from home because the Wainright's was going down a treat and the organising eejut had to drive home. I don't risk drinking more than a pint on such occasions and encounters with suicidal lambs on the way home justified that decision. (No lambs were harmed during the making of this story).

Our final trip for this week involved a journey south in the rain. M6 and M65, bypassed Accrington and made our way to Harle Syke. Queens Mill Museum has been on the agenda for a while and yesterday was the day.
This place is well worth a visit and a good time was had by all. The day was rounded off by a trip through the Trough of Bowland and an ice cream at Dunsop Bridge. |
