Mine from this weekend (mostly today).

1. He must have a screw loose going in there.
2. Off down to the Dunk.
3. Playing fetch.
4. Nuthatch & Great Tit??
5. Can we go now?
6-8. Around the Dunk woods.
9. A rather chunky Robin.
10. He`s found something under there, rats nest maybe.

Today in Pictures, is another of those walks in the extreme, I did intend to walk down to the river and snap some snow scenes, got into Gt Harwood, all gone, so where can I go that will be covered in snow, higher than yesterday, colder than yesterday and more "life in the extreme" Pendle Hill it is then.

1. This is a new installation, something I knew nothing about, and I have to say fascinating.
2. That will be our final destination, it doesn't look all that far away from here, but it is.
3. The temperature is at freezing point, but the sky and clouds are giving a colour and cloud display.
4. The rays are over Gt Harwood, you can just see Dean Clough Reservoir.
5. Off to the right you can see Longridge Fell.
6. You can see the reservoirs again in this one.
7. Although we are getting further away from our starting point it doesn't look like we have moved much at all.
8. We have arrived at the point we will turn around and head back in roughly the same direction.
9. I have been given a sign, we must return.
10. And with a final lean against the wall its time to head back.

It was the busiest I had seen it for a while, walkers, sledgers, snowmen builders, and not forgeting photographers, I had to walk for 30 minutes before they thinned out and I was almost on my own.

4. Same res but round a bit.
5. The sun appeared to stay in the same place for ages.
6. Guess what's wet now.
7. Sitting on a metal bench could weld you to the spot, especially if you have wet strides.
8. Heading down to the monument.
9. Oy...get down from there.
10. And with that "accy" went to bed.

marmalade cat? Is that the technical term for those "ginger toms"?
I've always attributed "gollywogs" to marmalade not cats, but I haven't eaten the stuff in donkeys years.

Today in Pictures is an unusual collection of cloudscapes, silhouettes, and a bit of wet bits.

1. A weak sun illuminating the cloudscapes.
2. Its green underfoot but snow on the tops.
3. It was only a few days ago that I walked the ridge that is now in view.
4. Its not often you can look at the sun, but today it was very watery.
5. Silhouettes in abundance.
6. Having arrived at the wet bits, it was time to wet the bits.
7. You can just see the rocks in the previous photo, and the steep climb I have just done.
8. The sun has dropped a bit.
9. The second tree drops more branches every time I come past here.
10. And with this shot it was time to paddle up the hill in the rather slutchy field.

Yes, they are called Marmalade Cats.....I always wanted one and had a name all ready for him if he walked into my life.....Marmaduke.
When I was a child we did have a marmalade cat.....we inherited him....he was called 'Sandy' and refused to have his name changed

Thanks for that M,what happens if your cat ends up being female....marmamarge perhaps?.......you really are a polymath :)

Margaret Pilkington 21-01-2015 07:22

Re: Today in pictures

No it would still be a Marmalade cat......and I think that(and I maybe wrong here, but will bow to anyone else's greater knowledge)all marmalade cats are males.....like all tricolour known as 'carpetbag' cats are female......something to do with feline genetics.

Margaret Pilkington 21-01-2015 07:28

Re: Today in pictures

I have just checked our friend Google(shudder)......it seems that the majority of ginger cats are male, female ginger cats are much less common.......so if I did get a ginger female.....it would be Marmaduchess, rather than Marmaduke.
This is highly improbable as Pasha, my current cat is going to be our last pet......we are both getting too long in the tooth to be taking on another pet.

Up here in the balmy North we've had frosts & the like, if you're wanting snow you've got to head on down to the deep South (well at least south of the Kasseler berge) but there's still time yet Frank. ;)

Today in Pictures is just a quick tootle, and more documental than anything else.

1. This field during the summer was a large trench while they put a large water pipe in, you can just make out the rebuilt wall that had to come down.
2. It came very close, so I kicked away snow and leaves to reveal a bit of soil, it was straight down.
3. Who left that gate open there is a hell of a draught.
4. Can you tell where I am yet.
5. Just leaves at the moment, the flowers are still tucked away until it gets a bit warmer.
6. And with that last shot the BIG shop awaits

This week I've been playing with B&W shots, since a friend of mine on Facebook issued me with the five day challenge (post one B&W shot each day for 5 days). I groaned at first but reluctantly agreed to do it. They started out as regular colour pix, but I used Photoshop to remove the colour and improve the contrast etc.
1. There’s a spider on the wall. Miss Pris on the hunt.
2. Crystals (a pot I made).
3. German style sausages at our deli (Bockwurst, Westphalians and Weisswurst for DiG).
4. The only outdoor shot (it’s COLD over here!) Early morning at the Guild cottage where I work.

Its good to have a focal point, and can stretch the imagination to see a B&W shot in a world of colour, nice idea.

Lovely shot of the robin, and there's my favourite graveyard again, in a wintery mood.

I love all these snow scenes- we haven't seen a single flake yet. It can be a nuisance but winter doesn't seem the same without a few snowy days.
I'd drive over if I had time, just to walk in it and see a snow covered Pendle again.
As it is, just keep posting your snowy ones please, it's the next best thing!

It's starting to thaw fast now and it is very wet

Today in Pictures, still wet, white, and wonderful on my tootling.

1. A walk around Hameldon Woods reveals a lot of downed trees.
2. There has to be a wet bit.
3. Beech are the only tree still with a few leaves, apart from the evergreens of course.
4. Silver Birch show off their bark, it gets lost when the leaves are out.
5. The wood, a wall and a wet bit, I don't think I am in Narnia though.
6. Baubleicious and if you look carefully you can see a little fat chap.
7. Top edge of the quarry, had time been available I would be up there.
8. Amongst the pine trees.
9. An abandoned farmhouse and attached cottages overlooking Winfields'.
10. A long forgotten about sluice gate that once regulated water to Britannia Mill.

Thank you Margaret. I thought of you with a couple of these, and how you can add colour selectively and beautifully. It would have been out of line for me for this particular challenge though :)

Yes, Frank. I lived in number 4 Heights Cottages, around 1963. There was no indoor loo, but a communal one for the row of cottages. No bath even. And no hot water - my Dad had to get us an immersion heater. I remember taking a 'bath' in the kitchen sink.
My sister was born there in one of the two bedrooms. I heard everything that transpired that night. Primitive conditions for a baby to come into the world, by our standards these days anyway :)

I always thought that winter had no colour except white and darks. This year however, I've taken the time to really look, and there are lovely though muted colours to be seen. Your photos of today's jaunt really show this beautifully :)

Caroline, I am not clever enough to ADD realistic colour......I am only at the stage of being able to selectively remove colour.
I can add a single colour then remove some of the background colour.....so I could make Pris a mauve cat, but not give her her true colour.
Recently I haven't had time to do any of that......but I am still making cards though(by request).

Thanks, I do like to be out in the snow, the problem with snow though is that it is a very bright and can appear grey if not exposed correctly, my trick is to overexpose by one stop.

Thank you for explaining, Margaret. However you do it, it's a good effect and I've seen how it has enhanced your photos. The cards you make are wonderful, and a worthy creative outlet.
I think Miss P. would be amused to see herself in mauve hah hah!

I love a good b+w image with a splash of colour chucked in for effect (though some turn out alot better than others)...I think, I'll be having a go myself when I get some time...."watch this space" as they say :)

Some pictures are more effective(when this process is applied) than others.

No, it is Photoscape...a Free(I really like that word) editing tool that is very simple to use...but it is on my desktop not a portable device(i think they do photoscape as an app, but I am told is isn't that great).
I do have some on my Ipad but can't just think what they are right now

Yes, I understand the constraints of time.
I have not had a lot of time to indulge myself in my usual pursuits.....photography, card making and editing pictures.
So when I do get a little bit of time I relish the luxury of doing what I want to do, instead of doing what I have to do.
Now I will go and put another coat of varnish on the table.

Today in Pictures was a dull and dismal day, Birdy Brow to Hurst Green following what would have been the tree line if they hadn't cut them down. So never the less we managed to cut a few shapes.

1. With the sun low in the sky it illuminated the mist on the ground.
2. It was a dark day all round.
3. There were times when you could feel the temperature drop rapidly.
4. The tree fellers appear to go around old and mis-shaped copses.
5. The views have changed.
6. I suppose woodpeckers will take advantage of the standing damaged trees.
7. Where large areas have been levelled, self sown seeds germinate and race to dominate the sky.
8. But not here just yet.
9. You can see the new flush of pines heading to grow past the old stock.
10. The light is starting to go, and we have a way to go, by the time we were back at the car it was dark.

Thanks, there wasn't much else to photograph, visibility was pants, pines were high on either side except where they had cut them down, it was an interesting walk but photographically a bit bland.
I have not been uploading to flickr for a few months, but have just got back into it, but thanks for noticing.
