This place is well worth a visit and a good time was had by all. The day was rounded off by a trip through the Trough of Bowland and an ice cream at Dunsop Bridge.

Such a glorious day here in Southern Ontario. We've suffered long and hard. But today it really felt like Spring! The last time I tried to upload photos from my iPad, I lived to regret it. All photos came out rotated wrongly somehow. But heck (Hell even!) today I feel like trying it again. So here goes...

A walk around the park (trying to exercise more)
Maple leaves just starting to burst forth.
A bowl I made fresh from the kiln
A big nest for a big bird...
I wish there were more prosperous farms like this.
A Spring time drive with the top down
An exuberant Turtle

A big bowl I made ... A young lad in the studio hung back hoping he would see me throw one of these. I was heading out of the door, but rather than disappoint him I buckled down and made one for him to see how it was done. It made it through to survive firing, and here it is :)

A feast for the eyes again.
I like the misty pics of Snowdon and the railway line disappearing into the mist.
I have set off up Snowdon and it has been a beautiful day at the bottom, but by the time I have reached the top it has been shrouded in mist.

Went up on the train...my climbing days are long gone.
I think the climb up there would take me far too long these days...in my head I can do it....but my body has different ideas altogether.

The original plan was for the mrs to go up on the train and walk back down with me (with me walking via Crib Goch:eek: if the weather was good, i`ll do it some day), but she`d told people at work she was going up Snowdon and they assumed she was walking so she felt she had to walk it. She struggled towards the end and is still very achy, but glad she did it.

I would need two paramedics and oxygen by the time I got to the top.......I have walked it once, but when I was young and in my prime and on that occasion we went up from the Llanberis side.......again, it was very nice and sunny at the bottom, but misty and wet at the top.

Great shots D,I always wondered,is pic#3 of a support for the old railway (viaduct) or is it a shaft for a mine?

Number three is the base of a tall chimney that used to stand here, it was a very busy area in its time. The area was covered in factories and the bits of walls that remain around the area only give a glimpse of the past, just over that bridge to the right was the opening to the mine shaft that was also here, not a proper mine with pit head gear, it was a hole in the ground with ladders down to the bottom of the shaft, but never the less men did hack away underground to bring coal to the surface.
Number one is also the location of the signal box that was here, you can see a brick wall off to the right, I am guessing this was the rear wall to the building.
The attached pictures shows the chimney in question and the signal box, also what was called five arches.

aah....the five Arches. I have spent many a long hour playing in that area.....getting wet, getting muddy, tearing clothes(and later getting a slap for being irresponsible - it didn't matter if we ripped skin...it would mend itself, but clothes needed a needle and thread)....so I remember this place fondly.
I should visit again to see if I can still recognise the place.

The feeling I got after not visiting for years was the size of it, with the demolition of the bridge, at least to me, it had become very small.
If you do visit there is a clean walk from your mothers, past the "old lodges" left over the bridge and then left up Woodnook Vale which is the old railway line.

Yes Dave, I have contemplated taking that clean route many a time, but there has always been something crop up to stop me...but one day...one day!

I think it must be something about the size of things being relative to our own size when we were children.
I remember thinking that Bullough park was huge, but going back now it seems tiny......strangely though the hill to get to it seems to be getting steeper...has someone got it on a ratchet?

Number 5 for me, you can feel the waxy leaves, glad things are improving.

I climbed out of the back window yesterday and did a disappearing act, I got sent to my room on my return. So where did I go, Hameldon Woods, the Bluebells are at full pelt at the moment, the only disappointing thing, scramble bikes have, and still are as far as I know driving through the blooms and ripping up large drifts. Anyway I found enough to photograph, so as you would expect when you go down the woods to photograph the Bluebells, there are Bluebells and lots of the woods, with just a moistening of a wet bit.

It is good you managed to escape Dave.......think I saw your good lady buying a pair of handcuffs and a length of strong ,so better watch out...either you are in for some bedroom fun or she has the measure of your escape tactics and is going to put a stop to your meanderings.
(I'm kind of hoping it will be the 50 shades of grey stuff....not the lock him up and throw away the key :D)

I have been experimenting with ideas for my cardmaking and because I have been asked to do some wedding cards recently I took these pictures. i have to say the idea wasn't all mine...I saw something like it, but thought I would do my own thing in a similar vein.
I know it isn't green fields, rushing streams or waves crashing on the shore, but for now..... this is all I have.

I can count, its just my memory that I can't count on, I had forgot I had inserted a picture in a reply earlier, so nothing deliberate.

I like that Margaret, the heart shapes shadows made it for me.

Who's a clever girl?

It's your day in pictures whatever you do.

Margaret Pilkington 14-05-2015 09:54

Re: Today in pictures

Thank you Russell...yes the heart shapes were what I aimed for...wasn't sure I would get the lighting right, but I think they look lovely......an imaginative picture for a wedding card or even an anniversary.
Not really clever though. I needed the prod of someone else's idea first, to make me do something which is similar(though not exactly the same).
I am pleased with the outcome though.

Today in Pictures, an excursion down to the river.

1.Pendle Hill is ever present on the way down.
2. There are lots of lambs about, although they are larger than my last visit down here.
3. Looking in the direction of "The Nab".
4. The breaks in the clouds are making patches of sun rake over the landscape.
5.Arrival at the wet bit.
6. If it's not wet you are not doing it right.
7. Cock Bridge, and some very big boulders.
8. Passing time stacking stones on the hull of my upturned canoe.
9. There must be some water pressure to move these boulders about.
10. Heading back up the hill, and looking at the rolling green bits.

Thanks. Now that the weather has improved, and the risk of frostbite has passed I am once again dipping it in the wet bits.

Today was a day I had to tie on my flat cap, the wind came whistling down the plains. Dean Clough on a day of clouds and patchy sun.

After my jaunt of road over the moors of Walsden I had a look around the village school and church I attended.

No 1. The Eastern moor taken from the west on top of Summit tunnel. Over the hill is Blackstone Edge, from Littleborough to Sowerby Bridge.
No 2. Making my way back down.
No 3. Cricket field through the chimneys.
No 4. Gordon Rigg garden and tat centre.
N0.5 St Peters Church school, now converted in to five luxury appartments which were lucky to get shown around by a resident. £250K each. My day paid £200 for our house across to way in 1939.
No 6. Church spire from behind the school.
No 7. Silly shot from graveyard, school chimneys.
No 8. Chimneys of old vicarage, now a very posh private residence.
No 9. View from old school playground.. There wasn't even a fence when I went there. We would loose a ball in the canal and stand by the side throwing stones to get it back, and not a child was harmed.
No 10. Coming down from the moor we passed Bobby Ball's old place. It used to be a run down farmhouse.

I like number 7. It isn't a silly shot at all.
In fact next year for the Lancashire photo comp...if you enter that one you might just win :D

Today becomes last Friday evening, as we visited Spring Wood, Whalley. It was a specific visit to view the Bluebells, but I couldn't help but notice that this year the Wild Garlic has the dominant position and appears to have spread into Bluebell regions and overpowered them in places.

Made a flying visit to Accrington on Saturday and was blessed with sunshine so had a quick walk around the centre.

Does anyone know why opening the new Lidl store has been delayed?

A great panoramic view in #1! I really like the stacked river stones too :)
