I may be wrong with the name. It's the same place that I was thinking....

...I use to look for buzzards down there and fish the lodge that is at the side of the river.

It sounds like the same place as there is a private fishing lodge to one side of the river.

I picked my brother up and took him for a ride over the hills at Walsden where I ws born and bred.

About 150 years ago there was a mining village right off the beaten track which is now just a few piles of stones. It's about a two mile drive over the hills from the centre of Walsden. The last two photos are of Walsden as we were coming back down. The last photo is the new addition to Walsden and the biggest house was sold for a million quids. There used to be a turkey farm there when I lived in Walsden.

There were a lot of rainbows on that day, some that appeared to be just a few yards away, I think it was down to the sun coming out just as rain showers moved through where we were.

These were taken a few days ago - the leaves are almost all gone now. Some are from the fairgrounds near where I live. It's a nice place to walk around the track -1km once around. Some are from a little trail around a storm water pond. And there's one of a pioneer cemetery in the middle of nowhere.

Most of ours are black ... but there are some greys ... one in particular, Graymalkin, is particularly friendly. No reds in this area, and few Chipmunks. We have a fairly large feral cat colony around here, and that probably accounts for many losses in the smaller critter community. I suspect that many of you animal lovers will appreciate this:

God luv ya, dahlin' ... it will help the good work these guys are doing ... it's a great idea: trap the ferals, take them to a vet, have them neutered, give them their shots, release them back into their colonies, and keep kittens for adoption. Organizations like this, manned by volunteers and funded by donations do fantastic work. Here's another one:

Thank you Eric.
When I retired the trust wanted to give me a gift.
They gave me a list of traders who I could visit to choose something lovely.
I told them that I would prefer whatever money they wanted to spend to be given to a local lady who takes care of unwanted cats and kittens.
They tried to dissuade me, asking me if I would not like something to remember the trust
by.
I told them that the best gift they could give me was to know that some fur babies were being looked after rather than put to sleep.
I have enough memories of my working life.
I could very very easily become that mad old lady in the neighbourhood who feeds and nurtures cats.

Margaret Pilkington 04-11-2015 14:18

I always said that if I came into a large sum of money I would head for the Spanish coast with a vet and a team to treat, vaccinate and neuter the cat population in that area.

My beloved Aunty Sheila is in hospital now in palliative care. She's reached a good age at nearly 90, but a good lady doesn't deserve an ending like this. My heart is broken, but I'm holding on to our many shared memories. Every day I make the trek to Oakville, and park my car on nearby streets to avoid the exorbitant parking costs. The upside is the beauty that I see on my walks. I will post more from my visits in the coming days. Today: the leaves are piled high for the workers to pick up: almost like snow! A Japenese maple glowed briefly in the late day sun. Apologies if the images don't come to you as I intend, my iPad is a fickle beast :)

It has been too wet to go out today.....Yesterday my day was taken up with medical appointments for ma....but, I did get a chance to do something creative.
See what you think of these.
1-4 Christmas cards
5) the paper isn't creased it is textured
6-10....all the same stamp, but hand coloured in different colour combinations.
In truth I am not sure what i am going to do with these.....they might find their way onto cards, but they might be framed and given as pictures.
I LIKE them......yes I know that small things...etc :D
All that colouring took my mind off fireworks.

I think we were lucky with the moist bit as it was raining when we set off, and mostly stayed fine whilst out, we even sat outside at the cafe for a brew, then just as we got home it bounced down again, so even waterproofed up it wasn't tested to its extreme.

The squirrels that live near Ma were on her back yard wall......she had put some mushy peas out for the birds( remains of one of her lunches) and there was an adult squirrel and a tiny kit hoeing into them.

Daisy had a much bigger litter than expected, she ended up having 12, unfortunately this was way too many for her and with them being a week premature more than half didn`t survive so we now have 5 lovely little pups, had their first visit to the vets on Saturday just to make sure these are OK, and Roscoe is a girl.

Oh, that must have been really upsetting.
They are lovely...made me go all unnecessary.
I love puppies and kittens.

Oh.....I could eat them bowt salt.......they are lovely.
I get more broody over puppies (and kittens)than ever I did over babies
I want one.....except I said we would never get another pet. That doesn't stop me 'wanting'

I love the sounds that puppies make. My parents used to breed poodles, and I have fond memories of cuddling them all. Thanks for sharing, gPick :)
