1. Driving through clouds I thought visibility would be pants, however it cleared up yards before arriving.
2. More ice than snow.
3. The light is changing minute by minute, Musbury Heights on the right.
4. One of the many streams that tinkle into the reservoir.
5. The water is calm, so heavy with reflections.
6. The remains of an old weavers small holding.
7. I saw this and thought of sausages.
8. Apparently its legal around here......getting your baubles out.

Smashing set of pics as Margaret says hard to choose a favourite - glad you got out for such a lovely walk :)
1,2 and 3 took my breathe away and I like 7 too, the baubles are a nice xmassy touch.

Nice to have caught up here again some lovely and varied photos and subjects. Margaret's wreath will be a lovely card - G pIcks Robin is stunning and would make a great card too. Same for some of DiG's wonderful seasonal ones, really lovely place and even prettier with the snow.

A good idea, get to know the bottons, bells, and whistles first, then when you get used to it you can get a bit creative by trying the various options available.

Today in Pictures, a busier than normal expedition today, the new paths have opened up the area even to people pushing prams, before, some areas were ankle deep with mud that only barmpots went through, I know as it previously went through my lace holes.

1. The reservoir, with a bit of ice and a lot of ducks and geese.
2. The melting snow has increased the water flow.
3. The top end of Jackhouse is a spit and a stride from the top road.
4. The sun is low in the sky.
5. A look down the site, the now dry top res apart from the stream that used to keep it topped up and now flows straight into Jackhouse.
6. They get everywhere.
7. If its not wet you aren't doing it right.
8. You can find this type of gate all over the place around here.
9. I can hear the sound of a harp.
10. Looking over the top end of Ossy towards Gt. Harwood.

Today in Pictures, a break in the weather , so hopefully no moist gusset on my return.

1. The closer we got to Pendle Hill the more the visibility vanished.
2. The cloud base appears to be descending.
3. Looking back at the path we have just travelled along.
4. All that remains of a cart track over the tops.
5. I don't think we will go that way, visibility is pants.
6. Churn Clough Reservoir, the fullest I have seen it all year.
7. A stream that has descended from the top of Pendle Hill to fill the reservoir and eventually become drinking water.
8. A turn around the wet bit, then head back.
9. Sabden, mixed in mist and sunlight.
10. It doesn't seem all that long ago that I photographed blokes "popped up" jumping in the res in their kecks.

Today in Pictures, it was more than a moist gusset.

1. Its a walk down to the Calder from Memorial Park.
2. So here I am sitting on the bank with my boots just dipping in the water, it was only after getting up that I realised the frost had thawed where I made contact with the bank, so bum and the back of my legs were just a bit more than moist.
3. The sun at this time of year is low in the sky giving false sunsets as you go downhill.
4. The river is just below the tree line and the Nab just over the hill.
5. This is where it all went wrong. Looking around, no one was in sight, so down on the floor I go to get a low shot, and to be able to see through the viewfinder my chin is in the frosty grass and I am motionless, taking the shot. Suddenly I hear OIY, some poor bloke had ambled up thinking he had found a corpse, you try explaining what you are doing, they just don't understand.
6.With a now wet front as well, I climb down the bank for a bit of a wet bit shot.
7.As the frost never lifted down here my pants are now starting to freeze, and I am starting to walk like Douglas Bader.
8. I decide to head uphill as the temperature feels like it is dropping, and you could strike matches on them now.
9. Almost back to the car, so one last look at Pendle.
10. As the sky was getting a bit tasty I thought a quick look from the tops, so parking up in the lay by that was once called New Inns I gingerly get out trying not to let my pants touch my legs and things. The sky was a pallet of reds and oranges, snapping away trying to catch the changing colours I am aware of someone walking past me, and yes you guessed it, it was the bloke that caught me horizontal, we smiled at each other and as I carried on snapping he vanished into the sunset I was snapping.

3. Its not scary....really, not scary at all.......it isn't.............what was that!
4. I did say I wouldn't play down by the water.
5. Well just a little paddle then.

7. I've fallen over agian.

I did shout I am taking a photograph, but by the time I had got to my feet he was off into the distance. Plus I don't think he would have understood if I had said I am taking photographs of melted frost on grass seed heads whilst laying face down in the frosty grass getting wet through.

Yes, I see wild roe deer quite a lot, getting a decent pic of them though is quite difficult. I think these are fallow deer, don't know if we have wild ones round here.

Know what you mean about not being fun ... we are at -19, -28 with the wind chill. At least the Canadian juniors warmed things up by taking gold at the World Junior Championships ... :alright: Dog walks are getting shorter, and I usually end up carrying her home so that her paws don't get too cold.

1. Best seat in the house.

3. In the distance is Hapton Scouts.
4. Getting ready for a floral extravaganza.
5. However at the moment the woods are asleep on the surface.
6. A sudden burst of sunlight, but is short lived.
7. I have found a spooky bit..........ruuuuuuuuuuuunnnnnnnn.
8. Looking down the valley.
9. Nice to look at, but wet underfoot.
10. Time to leave, the next time I possibly look at this area the bluebells will be the dominant plant.

Thanks, the daffs are even further out but no flower spikes as we are still going to get some nasty stuff. They often send up a few short leaves and then become dormant again, waiting for the warmer season to arrive.

Another yesterday in Pictures, on a day when we had high winds where did I go, Ossy Moors, I must want my bumps feeling, it was that strong I was leaning into the wind like Michael Jackson in Smooth Criminal.

1. Visibility is pants.
2. An old cart track, heading toward Troy Quarry.
3. Looking across to the top end of Calf Hey Reservoir.
4. Helmshore is in the distance.
5. Time to sit in the marshland.
6. The quarry was in operation at the start of the industrial revolution, and still used today.
7. Stone walls are a feature of the area, probably as it was only a short distance from where they came from.
8. The old cart track again, just a bit further along.
9. Its difficult to see, but the remains of an old farmhouse, or small holding.
10. Another patch of small buildings slowly going back to the soil from whence they came.

today in pictures, an out of town experience, the River Calder as it flows through Padiham.

1. I don't get it why they hammer money into stuff.
2. The sky was overcast but now and again it had colour in it.
3. The main road through Padiham to Burnley.
4. Its only a slight drop, but its a weir never the less.
5. A second bridge, the road goes to the leisure centre and the baths.
6. There is a plaque in the centre of the bridge, but reading it is very difficult, so why put it there?
7. Further down stream, another bridge, this time it is an old railway bridge which now has the Greenway along it.
8. The river as it meanders toward Simonstone and Altham.
9. I've just put my ear to the track, there is a Red Indian coming, or should that read Native American.
10. I've hit the buffers.

impressive zoom, you don't have to leave the house to get pictures of town, have fun, just remember the most important part of the camera is the few inches behind the viewfinder.

Its a today in Pictures with a quick dip into yesterday.

1. A walk I don't think I will ever take.
2. Down at the bottom, all those steps, one day I will count them.
3. Spot the odd one out.
4. There is a certain tranquillity about the building.
5. They say it will snow on Saturday, so these have come out in sympathy, I see the bloke in the background still has a slipped disc.
6. the side stones are slipping under a green carpet.
7. The first headstone has the inscription relating to the whole family and children who never made it to adulthood, then in stark contrast a headstone with just one inscription, each has a story that we will probably never know about.
8. These stony eyes have watched as time passes and the world changes.
9. The expensive monuments are always right next to the path, so the poor members of the congregation can still be made aware of their station in life.
10. The railings further enhance stature in death.

First time over the border to Holland this year, Almelo was to be our destination of choice. :)

The "Koornmarkt" - A couple of the Church spires from the many around the Town x2 - Looking up the "Grootestraat" & a misplaced municipality? - I kid you not, a converted "Nick" is now a posh Hotel.

Today in Pictures, today its cold, snowing, hail stoning, and a bit of sunshine in the mix, so where do we go today.....high up a hill around Musbury Heights.

1. That's the destination on the right.
2. Looking back at Calf Hey Reservoir.
3. The Sherpas have gone on ahead to strike camp at the peak.
4. The remains of an old weavers cottage, empty since the reservoir was built.
5. Life on the edge can be a trial.
6. Almost at the peak, and stone walls are in abundance as it was quarried just yards away.
7. Here we are, at the business end of the industry that once rules this region.
8. Not sure why they built these walls rather than just remove the ground to level the site.
9. After traversing the top of Musbury Heights we descended back down to reservoir.
10. Ravaged by the festive seasons weather the baubles look rather sad.

and with that it was time to return to the car, now that is another story, with snow still on the ground and an uphill slope, the front wheel drive proved to be a slip sliding experience. We had visions of having to rub two boy scouts together to create a spark to light a fire to put up the bat signal. We eventually managed to get out by reversing up the slope slowly, something to bear in mind next time

There was a covering of snow although Grane Road had been salted, we parked on the car park adjacent to calf hey reservoir, its on the right just past the clough head car park. Its normaly a pay station car park but the machine has been "bagged" since christmas. No salt had been put down on this narrow road and everyone was skidding on the way out, apart from those smug looking people with 4 wheeled drive cars.
