Today in Pictures was very much a rush to stay ahead of the storm front on its way, the Met office has issued a warning not to go out on high sided concrete bicycles. They have also issued warnings to remove garden furniture to a place of safety, I have no idea what to do with the Settee and gas cooker on the front lawn.

Its the runoff pond at Platts Lodge, its the gear that controlled the pond level, and let the water flow into Woodnook Water.
I was kicking my heals whilst she who must be obeyed was at the Doctors (Pals Centre) so went up the path to the lodge and shot up a bit that no one goes up. its difficult to spot when there are leaves on the trees

So you will have played around the area before they pedestrianised it, I mooched right around the outside of the lodge came across the sluice gate that channelled Woodnook water into the lodge, and the sluice gate I photographed took the overflow back out into the same stream.

Is there a proper path around the lodge now?

not a path as such, but fishermen use the lodge so access can be gained all the way around, but you have to reverse as it is not a complete circle.

It`s a shame I missed so many, there were some really good misty shots I couldn`t get, the problem with being on the motorway, you can`t just stop to take pics.
Found the church by accident, i tiny little place called Eassie.

today in pictures, a walk around the Huncoat Colliery site, there are plans for a motorway link road across the site but don't know how much will be effected.

1. Through the gates and found this log full of these jobbies.
2. The motorway runs just over the hill.
3. Thats the length of the site, but first a left hand mooch.
4. First down to the wet bit.
5. Autumn droplets.
6. Its a long time since this had nuts on.
7. Brown bracken, wasn't it just yesterday when it was green and growing.
8. A teasel basking in the sun.
9. I'm in clover.
10. The local RSPCA Centre.

As today was a day off (for those of us that work in Counties with the majority of the population being of the Catholic persuasion) I could have a bit of an amble so I did.

Swans going line astern at the "Larbergsee" - Wartime relic, a collapsed bunker on the approach road to Achmer "Ahnenkult" airfield (It's now a home to a local bat population) - Our house! As seen from about 2km away on Pente ridge (erstwhile searchlight location) :)

Today in pictures, it was very wet, windy, cold, muddy underfoot, I loved every minute.

1. Jackhouse reservoir, with it autumn colours.
2. The new overflow, with a fair bit of wet stuff coming down, this looks good for the waterfall further up.
3. This used to be the top reservoir, now it just lets the stream flow through.
4. Brown bracken fern, its nice to see it go, as it takes over due to its poisonous properties, however it will be back.
5. I can see it, time to get wetter than I am already.
6. Not forgetting the fungal contribution.
7. And another.
8. Here we are right up at the coal face so to speak.
9. Last fungi, its time to head back.
10. This stream joins the main one further down from the waterfall.

With wet socks, a moist gusset and a smile on my face it was time to head home

Today in Pictures, it was meant to be a short walk down to the weir at Whalley, I don't know how we ended up on the top of the Nab.

1. Start point Spring Wood car park.
2. Heading away from the car park.
3. Tall grass is now spreading its seeds.
4. We were supposed to be turning back at this point.
5. Across the bridge.
6. Almost at the top.
7. As far up as we are going, Hapton Quarry and Hapton Scouts in the distance.
8. Down a different path, Whalley Viaduct, and Longridge Fell in the background.
9. Eventually arriving back at the bridge.
10. Along the river bank, and back to the car park.

It still looks lovely - lots of colour - and green especially. Most of the leaves are down at the back of my place. It was minus 10 degrees on my balcony this morning with lots of heavy frost. A harbinger of things to come. But driving to the pottery sale this weekend, I took country roads, and came across pockets of golden leaves still. :)

It was a walk I hadn't done for a while, and the sun was shining, although we had an overnight frost but not to the extent you had, the sun is now low in the sky so long shadows are to be expected which makes it a bit more interesting.

Cant open your link it mentions browser add-ons, however the link below is the woods and river hyndburn. the weir in question is just to the bottom of the woods

you will notice in my picture there is a green brolly in the background, that is a fisherman on the bank of the lodge that is on the map.

No, they go past at such a speed its hard to focus on them, plus by the time I get my camera out of the bag, get them in the viewfinder, compose the shot, adjust for light conditions, calibrated the wind speed, worked out the atmospheric pressure, they have mated, built a nest and raised 4 chicks, and flown south for the winter (I may have over egged the pudding on the last one)

That's one sad looking hound. Ours had something similar, it took a while to get sorted & it really was upsetting seeing her hobbling round. It seemed of more concern to us as her, being a Hound she just accepted it & got on with her life.

Now, she's pretty much the same as she ever was but you can notice a slight stiffness in her gait while she's ambling about, but still, she's not apparently in any pain & she seems quite content with her lot. :)

Going to try to up-load some photos using this dongle thingy I'm using as a temporary (temperamental more like!) connection. Ten photos around the new farm where I have been living since Wednesday. Today was my first outing for pleasure since the move.
1-3 taken last Wed 6th Nov at 7 am while dashing between one house and the other - luckily had my camera in my handbag. The shepherd has made his annual move down from the mountains around Brianza and is grazing off the cut maize fields in the area.
4 Today's walk - the church in nearby Castelnuovo del Zappa
5 The church spire of Ossolaro another nearby village
6 Came across those sheep again, heard the bells on the donkeys ringing before I saw them -they've moved on!
7 The green of newly germinated winter wheat as a contrast to the autumn colours
8 My house back in sight (red one on the corner!)
9 Morbasco bridge - back to the lane
10 Looking back towards the farm - still signs of the almighty storm we had this morning!

10 Looking back towards the farm - still signs of the almighty storm we had this morning!

Great to 'hear' from you again! I hope the worst of the the move is over with now. The bridge scene is a lovely shot. And the stormy aftermath in No.10 is so dramatic!

Only one pic for today. Max is looking very sorry for himself. He has just returned home from the vets. He has had a general anaesthic to enable them to x ray him. He has been holding his back leg up and not putting ant weight on it.The vet is going to refer his xrays to an orthapedic specialist in Brigghouse. He thinks he may have slight damage to his cruciate ligament

Hope things are not too bad, and easily fixed, the rhythm of things goes out of tilt when your companion is out of sorts. Bob had to have his hip joint removed (femoral head arthroplasty) I thought at the time he would be restricted, now he runs as fast as any other dog. As DiG and Mobertol says the owners are the ones who suffer more than the dog.

Nice pictures, looking off into the distance gives the feeling that there is a lot of photographic potential there.

Today in Pictures, a walk around Spring Wood, I have done this walk many times, however today the colour brown is the dominant colour, apart from the last one which says time to go home.

A big thank you to all Max's wellwishers. It all rests on the orthapedic surgeons how they interpret his xrays next week.Watch this space.

Ooh that can be very painful - in humans anyway so I assume the same is true for canines, hope he makes a speedy and complete recovery.:dogrun:

Did you see that news item this week? Doctors have "discovered" a ligament in the knee in humans that they knew nothing about. I find that quite amazing - after all, it's not like it's in outer space, is it?:idea::dry8::unsure8::eek:

I'm glad to see you've still got an Ossy near you - it all looks and sounds so very rural...

That doesn't seem possible, you would think the human body has been mapped beyond such a discovery. What with x rays, ct scans, mri's and all the other equipment that has a lot of initials nothing should be new to doctors.

Well done Frank and happy retirement. Don't let the grass grow... unless you want to photograph it of course!:p

At least I got the right canal - I thought it looked like closer to Carnforth where I took some pics once.

Today in Pictures, mid morning with the sun low in the sky, and a touch of frost still about.

1. A walk in the woods, so as you would expect, trees.
2. The woods behind Wilson's Playing Fields.
3. Getting down is now a chillier affair.
4. No strength in the sun or the frost would have burnt off.
5. They started life as droplets, now icicles of a sort.
6. Low sun illuminating the leaves.
7. Shadows.
8. Blue and brown.
9. Long shadows.
10. The priests walk.

Now that the season for fungi looks to have come to an end, I think I will now be getting down to take snaps of frost and getting back up with frozen nutmegs.
