No, there was no hole, just kept sniffing and digging around that area.

I used to have a collie who put his head down any hole he could find even in a bucket

I`ve never seen him like that before, trying to bury his nose in the ground and digging, there was definitely something under there that attracted his attention. He`s sniffed around rabbit holes before but nothing like today. My guess it was the bones of some long gone sheep.

Today in Pictures, I went up a footpath I wasn't sure where it went, we ended up at the base of the tower on Pendleton Moor.

1. Parking on Spring Wood car park, we headed up the side of Whalley Golf club.
2. Uphill to the Moor.
3. Would you believe it, Ossy moor is visible from here.
4. I am just following the signs now.
5. Looking back through the style down to Whalley.
6. On the left Whalley Nab, and you can just make out the viaduct to the right.
7. Having reached the high spot it was time to descend, plus it was going dark.
8. No idea, it was dark.
9. Back at the style, I know where I am now.
10. On the outskirts of Whalley Golf Club, I can almost see the car park.

5. I find the breast stroke is best.
6. Right, where is the best place to put my picnic basket.
7. Heading back up the hill,......slowly.

We haven't had much to call wintry weather yet, mostly wind and rain, so apart from soggy underfoot the landscape hasn't changed much.

Today in Pictures.........This will be the last time I upload any pictures..............this year.
So I wish for everyone a year that they would like, and to those that had sadness during this year, you have my best wishes for the next.

1. We are in Padiham, on the banks of the Calder, well, we had to finish the year with a wet bit.
2.The walk is going upstream.
3.Crossing over to the other bank.
4. I dont know the name of that hill.
5. There is a bit of a swamp thing going on here.
6. I came over all "arty" for a moment.
7. This is the bridge just far enough, a reverse course from here.
8.The view from under the bridge, Gawthorp Hall is on the right of this picture, its going dark so no time today.
9. The sun is going down, and we are in sight of the car park.

And with that, the walk is over, thank you to all the people who have viewed, and contributed to this thread throughout the year.

4. Its getting a bit dark.
5. I do love a lichen, but not enough to lick it, so remember, never lick a lichen you love.
6. Steep, slippery, muddy, and wet, so up we went.
7. I have stood here in the warmth of the sun, with shirt sleeves on(no shirt just sleeves), Today my teeth are chattering......... so I am thinking this pink frock was a mistake.
8. More wet slippery, muddy steps, its a wonder I don't slip...............:swear8:

We're having a cold snap right now - that's minus 28 on my thermometer. Overnight we were kept awake by loud cracks and booms coming from the roof beams - it was all over the news today as many people phoned the police. They thought someone was breaking in! The term for it is Cryoseismos, or something like that. We in the greater Toronto area are seen as wimps by our neighbours in Ottawa. Temps. like this are nothing unusual there.

Today in Pictures, not really a walk, more of a visit, then a mooch around.

1.The cul de sac part of Heys Lane, the stream flows under the bridge and into the River Hyndburn.
2. The stream in question, I don't know its name.
3. The River Hyndburn, flowing toward Whalley Road.
4. Same location, but looking upstream.
5. The point of the visit, a topic on another site mentioned this bridge, and as I hadn't seen it for donkeys years it went on my list of places to go and see.
6. 7. & 8. differing view points.
9. Lovers Leap, ........well it could be.
10. Heading back to the car, a look back down the lane.

The bridge in question is located just around the bend as the River Hyndburn passes under the road, and just behind the Hyndburn Bridge public house.

Have winged it over to Tenerife to use my mum's wireless connection so at last some more photos from me. Mum's birthday today -we had lobster at the fish restaurant in La Caleta. Lovely views, fab food, sunshine and the company of my beloved parents - now that does make me smile. :) Saw some interesting hikers who made me think of the three kings, a dog on a roof, then spotted a beautiful flower on the lemon tree in the garden. Happy New Year all - just a few days late!

I kept it as it reminded me of how darn hard the climb was. The photo caption reads "A mate during the struggle uphill"

It was definitely worth the effort once you got to the top though.

Its easier to take night snaps in the winter as its dark around teatime, however the days are now slowly getting longer which makes night shots and sunsets a bit harder to get. Still the nights getting shorter gives us the warm days to look forward to.

2. Ice and snow on my roof
3. The pond is frozen and covered with snow. No one seems to be clearing it for skating this year.
4. The squirrel says: "Hurry up - where's the grub?"
5. The road across the valley is clear now.
6. It looks comfortable, doesn't it?
7. The number of needles in the grouping tells me that the tree I've been looking at out my bedroom window all these years is actually a White Pine (I just learned that!).
8. The white pine... and some fallen branches from the ice storm (many have already been cleared away).

Some of those pictures give a definite holiday atmosphere, you must be going brown by now.

The depth of that snow is not some thing we are used too, if we get 1/2" everyone goes mental, and the roads get jammed up. I don't know how you manage a minus 10, it sounds to cold for comfort.

Minus 10 isn't bad at all if I'm dressed for it. That means parka, good boots, a hat and of course gloves. Yesterday though it was minus 28 in the morning, and the wind was high so that added a wind chill effect. It felt like minus 35, and the weatherman warned us that in 5 minutes any exposed skin would freeze! So wisely I stayed indoors. We tend to get used to winters like this in Canada, although most people complain a lot.

Margaret Pilkington 08-01-2014 22:05

Re: Today in pictures

With temperatures as low as that, you have a right to complain!

Turtle 08-01-2014 22:10

Re: Today in pictures

At least we have some nice summers to look forward to. I've heard it said that Canadians are weather-obsessed! But with such extremes to contend with I can see why! Our last few winters have been pretty good, really, so I guess we were due for a 'normal' one.

Today in Pictures, not really an expedition with a camera, more a passing time whilst "she who must be obeyed" attended the Pals Centre (Physio on a new knee), so we set of with an expectation of 45 minutes to play out, we got 30 before I was summoned.

1. Woodnook Water as it passes the Pals Centre.
2. Just a look across at the stanchions.
3. Sluice gate.
4. That Coot is walking on water.
5. Looking back at the stanchions.
6. I managed to get as high up in Woodnook Vale as the first bridge in Priestly Clough.
7. Slightly more water than is usual.
8. That man is watching me.
9. Looking back down the clough.
10. And with that last shot I was summoned back to the Pals Centre for chauffeur duties.

Lunch at "La Hierbita" in Santa Cruz 2 days ago - it's one of the oldest traditional Canarian eateries on the island of Tenerife - opened in 1893. Tucked into the red and green Mojo sauces -delicious but garlicy. The Gambas al aijllo didn't last long enough on the plate for me to take a photo -same with the Albondigas (meatballs!) Photos around the city tomorrow.

Lunch out today at the Tapas bar "JamonJamon" in Playa de San Juan.

Spanish style brushetta with cheese tomatoes, anchovies and iberian bacon. Seafood in filo parcels, Pimientos del padron (fried green peppers), Lolipop prawns and Pulpo alla Galleca (grilled octopus with paprika - delicious) - the spanish omelette and salads went before the photos were taken!

Oh my, I was drooling over some seriously tasty looking grub, and then I saw the octopus. Was it good?

My mum recoiled when she saw it and was horrified! :D I convinced her to try it and she agreed with me after tasting it that it was lovely. Dad chickened out and wouldn't have it convinced it would be rubbery but it is very tender and light with a bit of a kick from the paprika. When I've had it before it was always presented a little differently - chopped into smaller pieces. I only managed to eat half and got the other half put into a container to bring home - lovely as a salad chopped up with some cold new potatoes, a drizzle of oil and some chopped parsley.

Today's walk was along the front at San Blas - it's right on the end of the flight path to Tenerife Sur Reina airport. Surprisingly you didn't seem to hear the planes. The large volcanic hill you can see jutting out into the sea to the right of the panorama marks the end of the runway. I wanted to get a few people into the photos to show what people get up to on their hols!
1 San Blas beach
2 Swimmer (eye-candy!)
3 Local fisherman
4 I do like to be beside the seaside!
5 Panorama looking back to San Blas
6 Contemplating the view
7 View to the Marina
8 Terrace bar where I stopped for fresh orange juice
9 Happy holidaymakers
10 Another plane coming in over San Blas

Thanks Margaret, No.8 is HDR, otherwise the town would be too dark. Waited for quite a while for a train for 10.

Edit: Jumped the gun a bit there and assumed you meant my pics.

No, you didn't jump the gun at all. It was your pics I was referring too.
They were the sort I wish I had captured. I did think that 8 was HDR.....even though it is very well executed.....by that I mean it looks natural.
Some HDR shots don't look a bit natural.

Looks lovely, and a bit of eye candy is always nice :)
I spied a young Jamaican lad cleaning the pool one morning. I snuck up over some bushes and took a snap, just because he enhanced the scenery so nicely.

I should have said, when I was in Jamaica that is. No swimming pools in action over here at the moment! I spent the better part of this afternoon trying to chip ice off my driveway.

Today in Pictures, a walk on Pendle Hill, Out in the sunshine, back in the dark.

1. Looking in the direction of Burnley.
2. It mustn't be hungry, it wont take bread.
3. I've frightened it off now.
4. Churn Clough Reservoir.
5. Its a wibbly wobbly wall.
6. It rude to point.
7. A small crop of droplets.
8. The sun is going down, and its time to head for the car.
9. The temperature is starting to fall now the sun is on the horizon.
10. With a final burst of colour it was over.

It was very busy up Pendle today, with para gliders, model plane flyers, dog walkers, bike riders, and barm pots with cameras, well one at least. It was nice to get a long walk in as we have only been managing short walks lately.

Did the barm pot with the camera give you any tips Dave? :D
