I`ve seen pics using that technique, although I didn`t know you needed an adapter, I thought you just held it there.

Gremlin 20-02-2014 15:57

Re: Today in pictures

The pair of adapters cost about twelve quids, there is no glass in them.
You need the pair because one of them had a catch to operate the aperture otherwise you need to hold it open with a match stick or rubber band
It manual focus only and you can change the shutter speed from the camera.
If you decide on one make sure you specify which camera you use and make sure you get a thread to fit the lens .

There is always a learning curve with a new technique, and learning the ways of the camera, but don't be put off by the first few mistakes.

The world of macro brings with it a new set of challenges, the depth of field and focus being one of the first problems to master. But when you have the technique off pat you will then have to master lying down in the wet, dirty grass to get the best shots.

Or in my case Dave, get a plant in a pot and take photos of it on the kitchen table, no damp gusset that way.
I have a periscope like device which clips over the view finder and is angled upwards.
You can keep the camera low and horizontal while you look down the attachment which is about four inches long above the camera.
I posted some photos a while back at a Morgan car rally and managed some cracking photos looking up at cars from low down.

I had an 'interesting' day, and so I just had to post a few more snowy photos. We're getting a major rain storm tonight, and with all the snow both on our roof, and our back patio, we worried about possible flooding and damage due to ice dams. So Hubby and I started shovelling shortly after dawn - not the roof, as we don't plan on an early demise! Then the condominium board sent workers to shovel off the roof of our unit. We needn't have bothered killing ourselves this morning - there's as much snow back there as ever!

1. Dawn dawneth.
2. There's patio furniture and a BBQ under there somewhere.
3. We took lots of breaks.
4. A nice path to the bird feeder, and a place for the rain and melted snow to depart (hopefully).
5. I took these garden face sculptures down off the fence and discovered one had a little nest built into the back! The white stuff is fuzzy fluff of some kind, not snow.
6. Some pretty spectacular icicles - taken last week at my artisans' guild.

Yes, it's been an unusual winter for us in this part of Canada. The amount of snow has been the same as in recent years, but there has been no melting to speak of. With the prolonged cold temps. the stuff just kept accumulating! It's normal for the Ottawa area, where I have family, but around here it's really starting to grind us down. A neighbour said yesterday that the crocuses would be growing, but underneath the snow! We'll never get to see them. Ah well, I'm holding out hope for tulips.

Really great shots. The monochrome effect in number one is perfect with the bright red umbrella. I can never get enough of the 'bent' tree! And number with the rainbow is a stunner :)

On some of them it looks like you have the same problem I used to have, and one of the main reasons I changed cameras, that is, auto focus is rubbish, that`s not a dig at your camera, just auto focus in general. Saying that, the marbles look good. Don`t think the chicken needed to be in macro mode myself, did you use the flash on the others? Is your ISO set to auto? if not, try setting it to that.

I know it tends to focus on the background rather than the actual subject.
Yeah everything's in auto maybe if I mess about in manual mode it will focus correctly(it still looks like my cams got a cataract) :)....

There is, F22 aperture, I was down at 4.2 to give very little depth of field.
I shoot in aperture priority mode, and juggle the ISO and shutter speed, that way I can blur out the distracting stuff in the background., I think its a phase I am going through.

Today in Pictures, I looked out of the window to check the weather before departure, the rain was coming down in a diagonal direction, the radiator was on and the heat rose under my chin and danced around my ears whispering stay here and I will keep you warm, it was very seductive. Then common sense kicked in,...... and I said NO,.. I have to go out in it, as I have things that require moistening.

1. I have posted this before, but this time its wet.
2. Why are they watching me.

Its a bit like smoking, once you have obtained a wet gusset there is no going back, and in extreme circumstances I find myself applying two coats of Dubbin.

My first attempt at one of them pano pics (using iPhone 4s).
I had to use my photobucket account for it because it wouldn't let me upload it any other way

Did you reduce file size, needs to be about 500KB.

No,I thought it might just let me attach it...tried a few times an got wound up :D...I'm sure admin won't mind this time ;).

I think they should be allowed anyway...just saying :)

Re: Today in pictures

You`ll run into problems if you don`t resize, they upload faster as well. I think it was Neil who explained a while back why they aren`t allowed from Photobucket, can`t remember the reason, but if they aren`t allowed then best not use it. You can upload to the gallery and link from there.

Accyexplorer 26-02-2014 15:58

Re: Today in pictures

The reason is because if I move them in photobucket the pics disappear from this site plus I think they are larger files,so they use more server space.
But what happens if I want all or some of my pics taking off this site, have I to seek permission from adim? What if they say No?

Maybe a admendment to the rules is in order ;)

I doubt I'll be uploading anymore pano pics,it was just a little tester.
I'll look into uploading to the gallery an linking them that way,Cheers

Leaving big unexplained gaps! And therefore the reason linking to photobucket is frowned upon. :)

There's an actual thread for panoramic pics, stick them in there & you should be fine.

It was when restless linked a pic through tapatalk and the forum size got screwed up.

I think there is a few reasons, stealing websites bandwidth etc  (so much for a certain music thread on Accyweb) :D .
If I decide to upload more pano pics I'll put them on the correct thread, cheers

You would need a suit of armour ... he's a big strapping lad, and he knows how to use his sharp pointy bits.:D

By the way I noticed those really great pics of spring flowers. So, here are mine.

1. Tulips
2. Snowdrops.
3. Don't know about this, nor no. 4.
4. More snowdrops at the base of this little tree.

Eric, I have had cats like that before.
My arms look like those of someone from Rampton.
I consider the 'spags' from the cats much as bee keepers do to bee stings.
They come with the territory.

Today in Pictures, BIG SHOP day, so only had 20 minutes, so incorporating a wet gusset with the rain I sought out the colour.

Well, maybe you could handle Toby ... but this is Clint, the King of the feral cats in the 'hood. I've seen him beat the ever lovin' out of a coon at least four times his size. And he likes beer. We get along ok, but I wouldn't suggest trying to touch him. He's survived, as far as I know, 5 Canadian winters.:alright:

Re: Today in pictures

Eric, I could love that cat too. I would coax him with kindness, and feed him with love.
I know you have read of my escapades with the strays in Spain. A lot of them were very wild, but they used to come running at the sound of my calls, they would let me treat their cuts and bites too.....ok, once or twice I got a fistful of claws.....but it didn't stop me going back.
I think cats instinctively know those who mean them no harm....but I can't prove my theory.

Gorgeous! What a shot of colour - just what I needed. Tell me these aren't all growing outside right now - I'm already green with envy :)

They were all down Mercer Park, and most of them were in the new sensory garden.

Today in Pictures, a windy day but for the most part sunny, so up the Coppice we went.

1. Time to sit and watch the windmills.
2. I think a theme is developing here.
3. Get up from that too quickly and I could find myself at the top of Avenue Parade.
4. And now the rocks theme.
5. There is a lot of exposed sandstone here.
6. Right I've had enough of rocks now.
7. Its a Gorse bush.
8. The mild weather has started the buds into bursting mode.
9. These wouldn't have been here if we had ice and snow, the birds would have stripped them.
10. The voice in my head says its time to go, well I think its in my head.

I always say, if its not wet, you are not doing it right. It was my bum today, sitting on wet moss to take snaps of rocks.

The knees are the easy part, it takes imagination and expertise to wet the other bits with persistent regularity, you may want to buy some dubbin.

A bit bored after visiting Toscos for my wine I decided to have a look at our NEW station, never been on it for many years.
Anyway a few quick snaps for today in pictures, then it's time to open a bottle.

The last three were taken with a little Panasonic pocket camera.

The parking garage shots show that such structures are universal - it could have been here in Ontario. But the rest of your scenes could only be shot in Accy - nice!

I really like #1, in that it shows springtime growth rising up from winter's detritus (oops, I'm getting too poetical!). Oh, what the heck, the colour of the crocuses is breathtaking!
My crocuses are still buried in snow.
