No Rob, you won't have done.....we had to have Gizmo put to sleep last August. He had a brain tumour and was having fits.
I have said that we won't have another dog. The pictures are of my daughters JRT's.
We have been looking after them as she and her family went to the IOM for the weekend.

aww. sorry to hear that. Gizmo mustve been quite old?

Re: Today in pictures

He was about 10/11 years old.....we had had him for about 4/5 years...and he was spoilt rotten.
It is so much of a wrench when you have to make the decision to have them put to sleep.
You know it is the right thing to do. but it doesn't feel much like it at the time.
So, no more dogs for us.
I dread anything happening to Pasha...she is 15 years old and my husband loves her to bits...he speaks to her more fondly than he does to me...I'm not jealous...honest! :)

She was waiting on the landing this morning and ambushed Buster.....she gave him a right pasting and he howled like a girl.
I thought she had ripped an eye out the way he was carrying on.
Anyway, it taught him a lesson.....and he gave her a very wide berth for the rest of the day.
They have returned home now.....so we can all relax!

Know what you mean ... my Sadie was 22 when I had her put down. We were together for a third of my life. Here she is on her last day. I really miss her, but she had a great life, and she's still alive in my heart. That last trip to the vet is part of the deal when you sign on to take care of an animal.

Gus showed up ... finally. He usually hangs out with Babs. They probably wintered in the old horse barns at the Memorial Centre. People in the neighbourhood put food over there for them.

They all look really well Eric -nice shiny coats -they obviously haven't suffered during the cold winter you've had. :)

You are so right with that one...but at the time you take on a pet you never really hope that you will have to make that decision. You really hope that your pet will die in their sleep after a long and happy life.
So making the decision is always painful.

It is good to see that Gus has returned and looking very well. I don't know these cats, but when you told me that they hadn't showed up after the arctic winter I worried about them...and hped for a good outcome.
The picture did it for me.

I have taken in many stray cats over the years......and if they do not appear for a few days I get a bit twitched.
We used to have a visiting ginger tom...I was really attached to him.
He went missing for six weeks one time. I was really upset about it.....so when he turned up thin and scrawny my husband rang me at work to tell me. I worked for the rest of the day with a huge grin on my mush...all because of a ginger cat.

Haven't had chance to take any pics for a few days - been a bit hectic getting ready to come over to Accy in visit. Was a bit touch and go whether I could travel after recently slipping a disc but I am on the mend and some good Lanky fresh air will do me a power of good no doubt. My next contribution should be from nearer to home!

Gp24, your "Moorhen" is actually a Coot, as to the Gull I'd say a young Glaucous Gull & 9 A common all garden "Blackie" female, I do like the Shires though, nice. :)

You could post 10 right now and post another ten at 1 minute past midnight...because the date are different....but if you took any on the date you had posted just after midnight...you would have to wait to post them until the following day.
Are you confused????

Yesterday I went up to see Ma.
There was a lot of wildlife about on Marsden St. It took five police vehicles to contain it.
They(the police) were breaking a door down...and the sniffer dogs were straining on their leashes.
I got one picture before getting a very stern look from one of the police bods.

There are only two rules when it comes to taking someones pic (in UK) -
1. You have to be in a public place.
2. They have to be in a public place.
If that was the case, then you are doing nothing wrong, even police making an arrest can be photographed.

Margaret Pilkington 26-04-2014 19:14

Re: Today in pictures

Yes, I know the rules.....but he was bigger than me and was giving me 'hard looks '.
I might put my single picture up.
I half expected there to be something in the Telegraph.
We also saw the fire brigade in Whalley road.....they were going up onto a roof to rescue a chap who had had a heart attack.....he was later air lifted to hospital.

A momentous day... our first BBQ of the year. First photo was taken April 2 of this year, and the second shows how it is now, with the little bit of nasty white stuff that is left (Begone, foul snow!). The hillside across from me shows little sign of life. One has to fortify oneself for these occasions, especially as I was doing the grilling Hah hah. After a glass or two, I started noticing the moss growing between the cracks in the paving stones. It's lovely stuff - amazing how it survived this winter, it being so delicate! A Hairy Woodpecker (don't ask me why they call them that) showed up to feed, letting me know that he didn't appreciate me being there. I had hoped the chipmunk would show up, but he waited until I had left.

maxthecollie 26-04-2014 20:18

Take a few more glasses and the moss disappears.

Spring is miraculous. The week we went away to Wales, the tree that I can see through my kitchen window was as bare as it had been all winter. Yet one week later it was all dressed in green.......and the may bushes are showing buds of blossom this week...when last week they were barely green.

I have not been able to go out, Bob had an operation, and is now limited in his movements for a while. A few years ago he had his left hip joint removed (femoral head arthroplasty) and last Wednesday had his right one removed, so he now has no hip joints.

I found from his first operation that when it had healed, and the surrounding muscle had built up to support the remaining joint, no disability remained. The vet said it was arthritis, and it had eaten away the ball, and the joint was eroded to such an extent that it was neither smooth or round any more, (I have it in a jar on the mantelpiece for now).
At the moment it is, no stairs, or steps, no jumping up, and definitely no walks longer than 5 minutes, which is a task in itself as he wants to do all these things. Then there is the antibiotics twice a day, and the ice packs 5 times a day, there is hydrotherapy to come yet, and through all this his tail has been wagging, its me that has been nervous, worried and tearful, still, when he has recovered he will be better than he has been in years and normal service will be resumed.
So for now I will be taking a back seat, I take a neighbours dog out on Saturdays, so will keep this up, but hopefully the time I have spare I will use to get my Flickr account up to date, I have hundreds to organise, and they go back to December, so perhaps I can put some of those on here so I don't disappear altogether.
So that's me up to date, one last thing, I am glad I took out pet insurance, if anyone out there who has a dog hasn't done it, do it.

Oh Dave! Sorry to hear that Bob has had such a trying time.
It must be like looking after a baby right now.
Just keep on keeping on. It will come good in the end.
Anyway, as you can see, what you started has meant that more people are doing the 'out and about with a camera' thing and bringing their efforts to the site for the general good of all who visit.

I know I am not as active as I was.....all down to circumstances...but I still look and comment and every now and then put some pics up.
Give Bob a hug from me and tell him to be a good boy and get better soon.

I managed to snap the elusive chipmunk at last. They're lightening fast! I had to get this through the window, so the quality isn't good, but you get the idea. Then I ventured out and saw my first turtle of this year. Two, actually. I didn't see the second one until I downloaded the pix. They haul themselves out onto the bank of the pond and catch a few rays to warm up. After this winter, it's amazing any of them survived. I hope to see more in the coming days. Oh, and this is my favourite tree in these parts: a white pine.

My neighbour used to feed peanuts to the chippies. She had a bit of a fright one day, when one of them ran up the wall and into the clothes dryer vent! She ran down into her basement laundry room and after much pullavah (sp?) freed the little devil. It then ran out through her basement and out the back door. This one must be a descendent - it runs up the drain spout as soon as it spies me.

Its no stairs, slow everything, and ice packs, and when you turn your back for a second he is sat on the settee watching telly. Its a visit to the vet tomorrow so we should know what comes next, it could be physio or hydrotherapy. I know what you mean about speed of treatment, we had to wait two weeks for a slot for the operation, but he walked out the same day.

Funny you should mention that. Bottles of booze don't survive long at my place either ... whatever the season.;)

A walk along Bezza Lane, Balderstones early afternoon - lovely place and wonderful views -todays' good weather helped! Some nice wild/farm creatures around, spring flowers in abundance and beautiful Lankyshire countryside to compliment it all -what more can you ask for! :)

My mother came into Toronto on VIA rail train yesterday. I went downtown on the GO train to pick her up at Union station. I hate driving down there now - and avoid it whenever possible. The roads were blocked with construction anyway. Funny, when I was a young lass I'd think nothing of going down there to go to discos and meet the boyfriend, but now it's just too much. Anyway, to help pass the time, I took a few snaps...

Thank you Margaret. There certainly is an energy to big cities - I find myself repelled and attracted at the same time!

Thanks Davemac. On Friday I get to take my mother back downtown, also on the train. I'll sit on the other side next time and try to get some shots of the waterfront side of things before I drop her off. The next leg of her journey is a good five hours.

Me too ... I think that's why I feel comfortable in neutral Kingston ... technically a city, but still small-town Canada, with rural Canada only minutes away. And we are located about half way between TO and Montreal ... I love Montreal. There's an element of the plastic about TO which I don't sense in Montreal. I'm real glad Madame Marois lost the election ... mon Canada inclut le Quebec:alright:

A bit of an experiment tonight, focus stacking, multiple macro pics (12 here - could have done with more) merged to increase depth of field (yes I am a bit bored tonight).

All down to the software Margaret, that's what does most of the work.

But you have to have the creative idea first.
Yes the software does the work, but it doesn't do it on it's own.

Had a really great day out there Margaret -it's a beautiful place with amazing gardens. The woollen woods installation is really clever, it would be the perfect place to take your young "tinlids" for a day out as they could explore the woods and find all the creatures and plants which are displayed throughout -literally hundreds of them!

Today in Pictures, a rare outing at the moment, and spent with Dianne (mobertol), so it was a pleasure to be out and a pleasure to meet her as well.

1. A brief distraction on the way to Spring Wood, guess who !
2. If its not wet, you are not doing it right.
3. From this point on its Bluebells a G0-GO.
4. I told you it was.
5. What's that smell.........Oh its me.
6. Taking steps to snap bluebells.
7. Stumps and Bluebells, it will never be as popular as Dandelion and Burdock.
8. Its that smell again.
9. Say Cheeeeese.
10. They are cutting most of these down.

Oh this is bliss - bluebells just as I remembered them! And the wild garlic is wonderful. Beautiful shots.
I'm so happy for you Diane, and just a little bit jealous I must admit! :). I look forward to seeing your photos too.
Dave I'm sure you wish Bob could be with you on this walk, but how happy for you to have fellow Accy Webber Diane enjoying the views in his stead.

There were carpets of bluebells and wild garlic, they were late last year so missed them at Spring Wood, so the timing was just right this year. I think Dianne enjoyed the outing as much as I did, and hopefully her pictures will expand on my contribution.

I do miss not having Bob by my side, and getting ready to go out, we have our routine and as soon as I put my coat on, he is out of his basket ready to come with me, I know it sounds daft but I have to sneak out so I don't see him dissapointed.

Here are a selection from today's really lovely trip out with DaveMac - much appreciated and thanks again Dave! He survived me nattering him to death and distracting him from his phoography :D I am leaving the close-up's as they are Dave's territory and my attempts were rubbish. My pics : Featuring him in his element (note his "trophy" dirty knee in photo 3) and getting down to business with a bluebell by cobbled steps later. Interspersed with my more general pics of the gorgeous bluebell display in Spring Woods. Finally a short verse dedicated to the Lancashire witches which is in the carpark where we stopped to have a rather nice ice-cream. :hothothot

Number 3....... A dirty knee! Now wouldn't that just go brilliantly into the present competition?
Great pics Dianne, but Dave looks decidedly lost without his ever present companion..... Bob.
Looks like you had a great day......and put your close ups on.....they will be relished by those of us who can't be out and about right now.
Oh, and by the way comparisons are odious.(just check out you signature as to what beauty is)

Your shots of the flowers are wonderful Diane. There's nothing more lovely than bluebells en masse, and you certainly did them justice. And you even managed to capture the elusive davemacious intrepidus, resplendent in all his moistness!!!
