My little pocket camera was on the worktop charging and I had just time to snap the cat. I took them through the window, luckily the window cleaner had just been earlier.

Useful tip -will give it a try.

Been walking out during the middle of the day lately so the light is much stronger - better to go late in the afternoon to get some llight/shade in the pics - early morning is good too but I'm not a lark :D

Your window-cleaner earns his money -would never have know they were taken through glass if you hadn't said!

The cat has very interesting markings -was probably hunting birds!

You have it with the wild geranium, I would have said the butterfly could be a speckled brown had you been here, but not sure for where you are, and its a rabbit romping in rural realms with rather risky roamings realistically.

1-4 - photos of the first day the new heifer barn was inaugurated, all shiny and new -the ladies seem to like it!
5-10 - new irrigation system on it's first official try-out yesterday evening - it's all plumbed into an underground-pipe/pumping system, so no tractor's are used to pump the water. Clever stuff and it works.
The man on my bike is Alberto, the farm owner, he usually drives one of his Ferrari's -though you wouldn't know looking at him that he could afford one! :D

Glad they reminded you of the homeland, there are plans to convert the Wharf and Sea Cadets headquarters into offices and build houses on the adjacent land, so Eric they may take the opportunity to install the plaque then.

Today in Pictures, It was busy in the countryside today, the numbers were well into double figures, normally I am more or less on my own.

1. An early start, I came across a mass balloon fest, I counted 6 before I had to move on.
2. There was frost and droplets in abundance, but it was then home time.
3. When the sun had gained a bit of height we were out again.
4. Tramping through Dean Clough.
5. Pendle Hill is always in there somewhere.
6.The gorse is out, the trees are budding, and the sky is blue.
7. Looking in the direction of Burnley.
8. Its pleasant today, but rough in Winter.
9. Pendle again.
10.Down onto Shawcliffe Lane, then Goldacre Lane, and the car.

Cows get bad press Margaret - the horse is considered to be "noble" (they are actually often highly-strung, nervy creatures) and cows are generally just thought of as "silly".

On close contact you discover that they have great dignity and I always think of them as ladies!

Without trying to sound to "up myself" these pictures are around us all, and I think when you look at something and say that would make a good shot then you are looking at the scene as a photographer.

It will creep up on you, and you may not realise it has happened, until you are driving down the road with all the family in the car, and you suddenly stop, get out, and take a photo, and the family accept this as normal for you.

I have to say Dave that I am always looking out of either the car window or the bus window and spotting things I would like to snap. In the car it is possible to ask himself to stop...on the bus, less so.
I am(one day) going to go on the bus to Hoghton Tower. The place has some kind of magnetic draw for me...and I look forward to taking some sanps and puting them on here. It might have been today had I stirred my stumps!

Any visit to anywhere is always, always prompted by what photographic opportunities there might be. I miss meals because of my desire to take pictures...pictures always come first...food is consumed only if there is time...or it is raining outside. (I should be really thin)

Today in Pictures, back to Dean Clough, this time the wet bits.

1. Its the big wet bit.
2. A dry stone wall, a wet bit, skeletal trees ..........and Pendle Hill, champion.
3. This years Larch cones.
4. A water channel that used to feed into the reservoirs, long since by-passed.
5. The dividing wall between upper and lower Dean Clough.
6. Mayflowers, a bit early, but the weather has brought them out.
7. Is that the time !
8. Sometimes you don't have any say in where you start in life.
9. Where has all the water gone, could be a hose pipe ban soon.
10. Back up the hill, and home.

Squirrels and an old friend, Toby, who has survived -40c temps, two ice storms, god knows how many blizzards, fishers, coyotes ... what a cat! With any luck, and lots of treats, he's going to spend next winter inside, with endless food, fresh water, clean litter and lots of warm places to crash. I'm so glad to see him.:D

"What a cat" indeed, now it's time for some pampering ;)

Eric, I am so pleased to see the pictures of Toby.....more so because you thought he had not survived the harsh winter. Maybe some other good soul has been giving him shelter or food....or maybe he still has some of the nine left.

Easter barbecue today - lovely weather and it was so peaceful sitting out under the cherry tree behind the house and listening to the birdsong. Looks like we should get a good crop of cherries this year! One of the farm cats was sleeping in the sunshine under the hedge nearby and a hare came across the field quite close and didn't see us. I tried a new way of doing radicchio (red salad leaves) cut into a fan shape and with a salsa made of chopped garlic, capers and anchovies in olive oil, 20 minutes in the oven -was delicious. Final pic of my pensioner friends, who'd stopped for a chat, as they continued along their way.
Hope you've all had a Happy Easter!:)

Dianne, it looks like you have had a lovely Easter Day.
It started out sunny her but it has been a bit grey and ordinary.....I should have had my photography leave yesterday.
Lovely pictures. Happy Easter to you, your family and all the Accyweb family.

The cat makes me think of the Cheshire Cat. He has a smile on his face.
If I could have another cat....I would choose one just like that one.

Except I would also like one like Eric's Toby.
I could very easily be a batty old lady with a house full of cats.

Funny - my friend Lisa made exactly the same comment! I put the pics on FB for friends/family to see...

I also aspire to being an eccentric old lady with a houseful of cats - rather like Brigitte Bardot ;):D

I think the fact that the cat is surrounded by greenery also fosters this impression too.
BB eh?
Well, we would be in good company then. I like cats better than I like some people.

Today in Pictures, good to see some people had the sun today, here we were not so lucky, overcast with a bit of a wind blowing things out of focus.

1. Part of Huncoat Colliery site.
2. The Cherries are still the dominant tree flower at the moment.
3. The Bluebells are no where near to being in full flower.
4. Mayflowers are dotted about.
5. I stood here waiting for a lion to come charging out.
6. Not entirely sure what it is, but it was just the one flower hidden among a pile of the rubble that used to be the colliery, noticed by no one, well apart from me, and I suppose you now.
7. Have you met our Daisy.
8. I think these look better closed up waiting for the sun.
9. I don't know why, but I saw this and thought of the Beverley Sisters, I know, it doesn't make sense. (Marestails)
10. Back to the car, and a bit of negative space.

More squirrels ... I kinda like 'em ... And Babs is back:theband: ... she's getting up in years and I didn't think she'd make it. I'm waiting on two more: Gus and Boston. I think I caught a glimpse of Gus a couple of months ago, but I haven't seen Boston since last November.

What a change from yesterday -storms gathered during the night and it bucketed down all morning. Went for a wander between showers in the afternoon. Found some early mulberries entwined with dog-roses. A fig tree is already well on with new fruit near the old mill house. A few shots around Castelnuovo del Zappa including the excellent Valentino's restaurant (can recommend!) Found the first wild Iris of the year as I sped up on the way back - there were threatening skies.

Nicola and her family have been over to the Isle of Man for a family celebration.......they left the two JRT puppies with us.
I took this picture last night.
The two puppies have run around like they are on wheels. They have had a go at terrorising Pasha.....and failed miserably.
She was waiting on the landing this morning and ambushed Buster.....she gave him a right pasting and he howled like a girl.
I thought she had ripped an eye out the way he was carrying on.
Anyway, it taught him a lesson.....and he gave her a very wide berth for the rest of the day.
They have returned home now.....so we can all relax!

How old are they, Margaret?

Margaret Pilkington 21-04-2014 17:17

Re: Today in pictures

Buster was born on November the fifth...and Belle was born last May..so she is really a juvenile.
Buster lives up to his name(a proper hooligan)......and Belle is quite a gentle dog.
We have taught her to sit and beg..to dance and to shake a paw...and she also changes hands(when shaking a paw - we just say to her 'the other one' and she gives us the other paw)......we can't get her to roll over though.
He won't do anything...he is just too distractible.
