You nabbed the donkeys, and found the tide in at Southport, not often seen.

Yes Dave......it made up for my peevish pentulance yesterday.
I had a lovely day out...and I think this is only the second time in my life that I have seen the tide all the way in at Southport.

Today in pictures. It turned out to be more than a moist moment. So with the sun beating down and hotter than a Spanish deckchair, it was a shirt sleeved experience.

1. Plants develop their own defence against pests.
2. A Larch cone.
3. It was at this point I exclaimed that it was raining over there.
4. Not a lot of bold colours around here at the moment, and with that a few spots of rain started.
5. By now the droplet size was heavy rain sized, and my shirt was at maximum absorbency.
6. By now the rain was dripping off my ears like Bet Lynchs' earrings.
7. Visibility is now naff.
8. Why is he the only sensible one, taking shelter.
9. I don't know why I am now sheltering, my knickers are wet through.
10. Despite the wet through look, the uncomfortable chaffing, and the 10 minutes yet to go before the car will be in sight, I took the time to get a bit arty farty.

Just a minute you two... I just looked at Google Earth to see where Southport lies in relation to Accrington (I know, I know - I've been gone too long )
If your shots were taken today, how come one of you (davemac) was in pouring rain, and Margaret in radiant sunshine?!! Is the weather that variable over there?

Definitely too young...or maybe it should be that I am too old...but that doesn't mean others on here can't enjoy getting an eyeful.(me?? I'd rather have a meat pudden with plenty of gravy).

Yes Dave, I also like what you have done with number 10.

I think I might have an answer to this conundrum, I suspect Mrs P was out and about at a reasonable time, and it was blistering weather here right up until 2.30pm. I was sat in the street bursting gas tar bubbles until 2 pm when I set off on my ramblings, hence the attire of just shirt sleeves and a pink tutu. I will await Mrs P confirming the time she was paddling in the sea at Southport.

Yes, it was beautiful when we left Southport just after 2.30...by the time we got to Preston I could 'smell' rain.......sure enough by the time we got to Higher Walton it started to rain...big drops.......and by Blackburn it was tippling down.
Clayton was dry...but only just!

I sometimes wish I could transport myself......the way they used to do on Star Trek.
I would love a half hour( a female half hour that is) run around there.......and I would not stop to look at or sample the food and drink......my time would be spent aiming my lens.

I would also transport myself to some of the places that Dianne shows us. I would be in my element, delirious with delight.

More pics that were taken yesterday but have been meddled with today.
1) Family enjoying the warm sunshine on the green space of Lord Street.
2) Toddler playing at the end of the pier.
3) Blackpool Tower. Taken from the end of the pier.

I was a bit disappointed with the picture of the tower......Having said that, I personally could not see the tower at all until I tried to photograph it....and even then it was hazy.

There were two young as I could see, but one ran into the nettles and the parent flew off, I have photographed this tree dozens of times not realising that it was a nesting tree for Owls, so I wouldn't say a good spot, more eventually !

Great range of shots in all the pics I've seen today - love the fox, the owl and the two white ducks with reflection. It's getting to be a bit like the Wind in the Willows so I'll add a rather ugly toad which is one of a large group which congregate around my plant pots in the evening. We also have a visiting hedgehog who I'll try to photograph next time I see him! I also especially liked Margaret's one of the 3 people on the boards and Dave shot no.7 of the river.

You can still have your vinegar on Poutine, Jen, but the cheese curds melt to a salty, gooey goodness that blends so nicely with the gravy (drool!) - I think I'll go get me some!

I do have this feeling that poutine could catch on over on your side of the pond. Kingston is a military town, and quite often members of your armed forces, usually sig-ops, are over at CFB Kingston. When the troops are out and about downtown, they can't seem to get enough poutine into them ... (you can tell the Brits by their funny way of talking;)) ...

Oh, they also go for the beer and the girls too.:D

Today in Pictures, Clayton Forest before they start the improvements.

1. Its mostly self seeded trees at the moment, with not many specimen trees.
2. Its a weir, notice the view point, and remember.......if its not wet you aren't doing it right.
3. Clayton fields is off to the right of the picture.
4. Not sure if this section will be included in the clean up ?
5. With my back to the weir, the River Hyndburn heads for Hyndburn Bridge.
6. The path along the edge of the river, although it is down a steep slope from here.
7. Bridge over the river, the path goes to Great Harwood.
8. This path goes from Lower Barnes Street to Hyndburn Bridge.
9. It must have been a Road of importance, they wouldn't have cobbled it otherwise.

Yes, Dave, that's how it goes over here. It's like a switch has been turned on, and Bing! It's summer. Seriously, I think all of us in southern Ontario are very relieved to have some warmth and sunshine. Plus the new leaves on the trees help disguise all the damage done by that ice storm. The broken branches are still there, just all greened up :)

Yes, Diane, she's called Pris, after Daryl Hannah's blond and leggy character in the movie BladeRunner. I wrote about her not long ago in my Blog here on Accy Web. She's a little dear, but running rings around us on a daily basis - literally!

Today in Pictures a walk down the Woodlands, and would you believe it there is a lot of wood.

1. A Mirid Bug, I never saw any last year.
2. Proper sneezing fuel.
3. Wood, as far as the eye can see.
4. And a bit further than that.
5. My dog does this occasionally.
6. I think this is the Harlequin Ladybird, the foreign invader that will wipe out the native species.
7. I have never come across it before, and could only see this one.
8. I am not tuned into fungi spotting yet, but just stumbled across this little patch.
9. Could I suggest a little moisturiser.

Today wasn`t what i`d planned, a problem SD card problem ruined this mornings plans, and this evening, well, sometimes nature is not nice to see, if there hadn`t been a happy ending I wouldn`t be showing some of these pics.

1. Trying out a CPL filter, i`ve had it a while but not really used it much.
2. Fishing on the canal.
3. Horses frollicking.
4. Was going to avoid taking pics of birds today, but not seen one of these before, anyone know what it is.
5. Approaching these, I did wonder why they were reluctant to go in the water.
6. The adult goose that did go in the canal was attacked by a swan.
7. As were the rest.
8. And it made a bee-line for the goslings.
9. It did escape though.
10. I threw some stones into the canal to distract the swan while this little one escaped.

And there was another a bit further up the canal the managed to make it back, all eight made it back to mum and dad, swan was one nasty sod though.

There is a price to be paid, it seems. We get quite a few severe thunderstorms with these sudden temperature changes, and some of them bring Tornado warnings as happened this evening. It's blown over my area now with no damage, but some poor souls to the north of us were not so lucky. No photos, sadly - maybe next time!

You don't realise what extremes of weather other people have to live with, a tornado is not something we have to live with over here.

Today in Pictures, a walk across the field and through the wood.

1. Conkers.
2. Through the field.
3. The buttercups have sunk under the next wave of other plants, grasses are now the dominant plant.
4. Through the wood with dappled shade. There are numerous birds singing in the trees, and the flying insects are getting busy.
5. A difficult species to identify, however it is an umbeliferas plant.
6. The woods are filling out with green stuff.
7. The common spotted orchid. This year they have spread through the woods. (millennium baby wood)
8. Knapweed.
9.Grass as far as the eye can see, and that isn't very far due to the hayfever.
10. Yesterday was the first time I saw a harlequin ladybird, now another........RUN THEY ARE COMING.........but slowly.

Today in Pictures, with the sun beating down the flora and fauna was a joy today, I set off to find a specific flower, this is my second year I have not found one, I know they flower I have just not found one as you will see.

1. The Great Burnet is now flowering.
2. There are still pockets of meadow flowers that the grasses have not suppressed.
3. Ox Eye Daisy with a height that is higher than most of the other meadow species.
4. A Six Spot Burnet Moth on a thistle.
5. Seed from a goatsbeard making a dash for freedom.
6. Dog Rose basking in the sun.
7. More Ox Eye Daisy.
8. This is the plant I can never find in flower, Tropopogon, the goatsbeard, there is a closed flower on the left and the seed head on the right.
9. Six Spot Burnet Moth on a Common Spotted Orchid.
10. Young frond of the Bracken fern. The only insect I have found that inhabit this plant are Ants.

And with that my tootle around the Huncoat Colliery came to an end.

My quest could be impossible, as it flowers in the mornings, and I have tasks to undertake then, and my outings are in the afternoons, but who knows, I may just get one that was late getting up.

Yesterday was perfect - no clouds, warm but not too hot. Hubby and I went for a little toot along one of our favourite roads: The Forks of the Credit road near Belfountain. Being in the middle of the week, and early morning, there was little or no traffic. On weekend it can be clogged with tourists from the city. So glad we missed them!
1. They're not kidding.
2. Off we go!
3. One of many nice turns, but they've installed speed bumps for the summer!
4. No clouds today.
5. A river! I need photos for the Comp. Can we stop? No, oh well.
6. Trees whizz by (hubby is camera shy - that's his Greek Fisherman's cap to keep the sun off his bonce)
7. Switchback sign.
8. Someone took it a little too fast!
9. This morning - clouds are back, but nice wispy ones.
10. Red Squirrel I saw on my walk - wish I had my proper camera with me.
