One day you'll be in the same position as me where I have to hunt all over the house because I haven't seen my old cat Teo since she came to eat in the morning. She's taken to sleeping most of the day on top of my son's wardrobe and you can't see her until she decides to stir and flick an ear! |
Re: Today in pictures
Back to the parking debate - we also have to pay on the hospital carpark and through much of town these days. Only a few more peripheral carparks remain free and they are usually full so you go round them a few times to find a space.
Went into Cremona this morning to pick up a book I'd ordered and have a wander round the market. Didn't have any money on me (son tapped me for my last euros yesterday evening) so I decided to park free and walk in. New potatoes, hard-backed book, veg, fruit and fresh fish later... on my way back to the car I was cursing in the heat and wished I'd parked nearer as it felt like my arms were dropping off...you can't win! Photos of the market to be sorted which I snapped as I wandered and shopped! |

Have just got through my morning's 'Happy snapping' - first set of 10 - hope they give a feel of the market in Cremona. It is a very bustling large market which is on twice a week (Wed. & Sat) and covers the three main squares in the center of town, Piazza del Duomo, Piazza Stradivari and Piazza della Pace.
(I saved about 50 of those I took so will probably post one more set of 10 tomorrow). |

But I do believe that conserving what's left of an area's natural beauty is important ... for the environment and for the soul. It must be especially difficult in countries like the UK, with a limited amount of space. We are lucky here that we don't have that problem.:D I checked out a list of Canadian National Parks ... amazing places. I just posted all my market pics on my FB page in an album and remembered this local saying in my husband's dialect "Pavese" the dialect of Pavia.

We went for a walk today to Watergrove reservoir, a place we haven't visited for at least nine years. Pictures 1 to 6 are of the wall around the reservoir. The stones wer taken from the buildings that had been flooded to make the reservoir. Pics 7 and 8 are general views. Pic 9 is a memorial to a young lad who lost his life swimming in the reservoir. No 10 is a close up of the poem that his mother penned to remind others of the dangers of swimming in reservoirs |

A selection from my walk yesterday afternoon.
The large red flowers were in a garden, about 20cm in diameter they look a bit like a giant hibiscus. The damsons were in the same garden - love their colour. The rose reminds me of pear drops for it's colour. The photo of the farm with the little weir in front put me in mind of Dave because of the water - it's part of the irigation systen and the water goes down off the center either side into the stream but also continues under the path and fills another channel on the other side. I was gutted that the common blue was slightly out of focus this time but the orange moth is a bit better. The two ladies in the village are both 75 and often stop me for a chat when they see me out walking... |

Re: Today in pictures
I am just soooo envious of those kingfisher shots.
The times I have walked down there and never seen one.....and I have looked. In fact I get worried that someone will think I am going to end it all.....I spend so much time looking into the water. I suppose much photography is about being in the right place at the right time...oh yeah, and having your camera in your pocket helps too. |
Re: Today in pictures
I`ve been seeing so many recently, on the way down I saw one under the M65 bridge (too quick for me to get a pic though). Here I was sat on the corner of the river not far round from the waterfalls. I`ve sat there a few times because the fish jump out of the water, that`s what I was trying to get a pic of. I looked up and saw some bird movement. Only got these 3 pics but quite chuffed to get one splashing in the water, then with the fish in its mouth.:ban:
Watch this video, get to know the noise they make, you`ll here them when you`re down there looking for them, unfortunately, that probably means you`ve scared them off. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nU-TRdWd1jU |

OK Jason......see what you think of these then.
1) early on the candles were lit for the ITN cameras....few folk about good opportunity grabbed with both hands. 2) Pictures of 600 lads that were lost...again kindly lit by the ITN newsman. 3) The Accrington Pipe Band who played moving music until 10.30. It gave me goosebumps and a lump in my throat the size of Gibraltar. 4) Young and Old...side by side playing their tribute to the fallen. 5) My candle....lit for the memory of those lost in all conflicts....it makes me unreasonably sad to think about their loss. (OK perhaps it isn't unreasonable to be sad for those lost in battle) 6) some perspective of the attendance.......there were people there from all generations...the very young to the very old. All made the effort to be there with their candles and their thoughts. 'Lest we forget'........'At the going down of the sun we will remember them' |
Re: Today in pictures
Fantastic Capture Margaret.
|
Re: Today in pictures
There were a lot of shots that were too poor to use.
I took my Limix and a spare battery......the battery in the camera was low and the spare I took along with me was not charged...don't ask me how that happened....so most of these pics were shot with the Fuji EXR 600. I should have taken the monopod....you need a steady hand for low light shots don't you? |

Lovely shots though and I agree it was quite a moving experience....shame I didn't have the batteries for my camera charged, all my pics looked liked they'd been taken using a potato with a cataract ;) |
Re: Today in pictures
I was concentrating on trying to get passable low light shots and making sure the camera was on the right setting for that.
I wish I had known you were somewhere in that crowd....I would have made myself known. Some of my shots looked like they had been taken with that sort of camera too....the potato with cataracts.:) |
Re: Today in pictures
Night shots can be very tricky M, it usually takes me 3-4 shots before I find the right exposure setting (suppose that's one of the joys of being a amateur).
Yes, I tend to make myself more elusive than gpicks kingfishers but it would of been nice to say hello etc ;) |
Re: Today in pictures
It doesn't really help that my own vision is impaired in low light(I have cataracts) so sometimes I don't know what kind of shots I have taken, until I get them back home and on the big screen.
I had quite a few 'delete me' shots......In fact I am fairly satisfied with the shots that I did get....all things considered. |

Yesterday and today in pictures.
1. A walk between a motorway (M65) and an industrial site. 2. Poisonous, Belladonna, called deadly and woody nightshade depending on the colour of the flower. 3. A field separates me from the motorway. 4. Once worthy of gate posts and a gate, now barbed wire has to suffice. 5. Despite the heavy crop, I have yet to encounter anyone "blackberrying" 6. Round the corner the trees become less. 7. Pendle Hill comes into view. 8. This section of the thistle has despatched its seeds. 9. & 10. Today : not having visited for a while, this small patch of poppies close to the memorial made me stand still and looking for a moment. |

Re: Today in pictures
I just came round past Walton Arms and the scene was shouting out to have it's photo taken. The only place I could take it without getting out of my motor was on the zig zags at the little Altham school. luckily i was side ways on so I could lower a window.
The little Panasonic camera goes everywhere with me and is so handy at times like that. It's a tip Garth Dawson told me , probably near thirty years ago, always have a camera handy, no matter what sort because once the moment has passed it's too late to go home for it and many a good snap has been missed. |
