Not wishing to be picky, but I don't think the bird is a Red Kite, the pin feathers are to pronounced & the tail doesn't exhibit the typical "fork" you'd associate with a Kite, more likely a Buzzard & your forest flowers look remarkably like wild strawberries.

Pleasant pics though & it's nice to see some variety, thanks Frank. :)

They are red kites. We went to a red kite feeding station.I have other pics of them but they were at least 50 yards away from us

That's definitely the beast (forked tail), but in the previous ones the tail is more of a fan leading my thinking to Buzzards.:)

I can see were you are coming from, but there was an rspb member in the hide with us. I am not a twitcher but my son is a very keen twitcher and he has verified them as red kites. These birds move so fast it's hard to get a decent pic

The colouration Dave is undoubtedly to me a Red Kite in all the pictures.

I am really impressed with the photos of the Red Kite -I always find birds to be the most difficult things to capture. You need a really good camera and a steady hand too!

Today in Pictures, with diagonal rain, it just had to be Spring Wood (Bluebell Wood), so with a well dubbed gusset off we went.

As you would expect there are bluebells, wild garlic (ransoms) ragged robin and wood sorrel, and hidden away in the pictures some small droplets.

Yesterday evening's walk round Casalbuttano while I was waiting for the car to be ready at the mechanics. Had never seen the old tower before - looked it up and found that it's called "La Torre della Norma" and was part of an 18th century neogothic building named after the famous opera by Vincenzo Bellini.
1 Town Hall

6 Osteria La Granda - dating back to 1760's

Today in Pictures, a walk around the woodlands proved to be greener than a big green thing with extra green bits.

1. The stream as it enters the woodlands.
2. Looking toward the carving.
3. And here it is.
4. Its just a green curtain.
5. Another carving in the distance.
6. Am I the only one here.
7. Top corner and the point of return.
8. Waiting for the sun to shine, looks like a long wait.
9. There is a small patch of these, but not many.
10. Back to the stream, as it heads through the woodlands.

You mean you don't really have hover boots Dave? :D
It certainly does look greener over there -some lovely sprng flowers around -I love bluebells especially.

As to adders being in the vicinity I had no idea, good post Jen - I think the lady in question was really unlucky to be bitten but better to know they are around. Normally they disappear if you make some noise. I have encountered one once when out walking in the a valley in the Alps with my boys who were little at the time. Eldest son was running ahead and nearly trod on it in the middle of the path sunning itself. He called out to me and we watched it disappear and then turned back off that path as we were scared! Here they advise you walk in the mountains with boots and use a stick -if you tread on one by accident they tend to hit out low down and boots are a line of protection.

I was surprised when I read it, It is a nice place to walk and I don't think there is much you can do to detect or avoid these things, I think she just had bad luck. I wont avoid the place, but being aware may make me change routes to well trod paths now.

I do have hover boots, but due to the high pressure combustion chamber, and the fuel used (chip fat ) I am unable to take them on a plane. Unless you can buy them over there, are there any "HoverbootiRUs" shops or Shoes-for-the-vertically-challenged stores.

Tried the platform trainers, they made my nose bleed, also tried the wheelie trainers and they also made my nose bleed as well, by falling over.
I find stilts will do at a pinch, but if its wet I do the splits, and then wet myself.

Today in Pictures. A day when it was wet from above and below.

1. The Jackhouse overflow with a bit of water coming down.
2. A burst of colour.
3. And a bit more.
4. Past the reservoir.
5. An old stone footbridge over one of the streams that feeds Jackhouse.
6. Time to get my socks wet.
7. Go on then, get your socks wet.
8. So there we have it, wet socks.
9. Yet another feeder stream.
10. A view of Pendle Hill.

2. The larger and double flowering cherries are out.
3. Whitaker Park, Rawtenstall.
4. A wide view, with the moor beyond.
5. And again.
6. Primroses, hidden in the bushes.
7. Looking across the park.
8. Around the main gate.
9. The museum.
10. Bluebells adjacent the car park.

A few shots of our sunset yesterday -some spectacular clouds around with the storms that keep passing over. A couple of shots of my old cat Teo pretending to be asleep in the sun this morning (she's 17) and one of Milly (Teo's grand-daughter who is 10) who is aways sleeping. Final shot is of a neighbour's rabbit which has escaped from it's hutch and is wreaking havoc in the veg garden eating the lettuce and shoots of newly planted veg., taken through my mosquito net at the kitchen window which is why it's a bit odd!:D

Today in Pictures, a walk through the woods is a very green affair, with a few moist moments.

1. A lot of green today.
2. A bit of blue as well.
3. The start of the moist bits.
4. Heading up the stream bed.
5. 6. 7. more moist moments.

8. This is a bit different, I had to walk down stream to get this photo. The bed was sandstone slabs and covered in algae, and on a slope. Both my feet vanished from under me, and shot up to head height in an instant. There was a moment when gravity was defied, then applied, and I horizontally descended into the stream with a thump. I then had a muddy wet stripe from head to toe, just like a skunk, plus I now smelt like one. As I looked down at my feet, through the "V" that was formed as I was lying there, I could see Bob looking at me thinking we were playing. So now I have had a horizontal moist moment, so you don't have too.

9. Back to the green bits.
10. Finally a dry stone wall going nowhere.

the only thing that stops me posting more of moist moments is the daily total of 10.

I do post a few more on Hyndburn Webb https://www.facebook.com/groups/180568218734634/ although you do have to be invited onto this thread.

Also there is my flickr thread, (link at the bottom) Flickr: davemac43's Photostream

And just a moment to blow my own trumpet, I have had a few pictures selected for this months submissions on the Q.I. website, use the sideways arrows to get to my pictures 7 in total about 7 in. QI : Quite Interesting

Thanks for the interest, and if you have any pictures please post them on here as we would like to see them.

1. Marsh Marigolds, just through the gates.
2. Not a lot, just enough for a hint of blue.
3. What do you call a white Bluebell, a Whitebell ?
4. The Rhododendrons are giving a good show.
5. The black Swan is back, and I think I know where it goes when it's not here.
6. My guess is, it is the one that is a feature of Ossy Mills.
7. Do you think that Hoverfly is having a poo ?
8. I forget the name now !
9. Time to head back.
10. That pollen gets right up my spiracles.

Today in Pictures, I appear to have cornered the market for moist moments, and for having a damp gusset as a result.

So without explanation, I give you, Oak Hill Park in the rain, not only the park, but I was as well, also my four legged friend.

Something a little different today : Lessons in Western-style horse-riding with Dick Pieper a real cowboy over from his ranch in Oaklahoma. You can tell a real cowboy by his boots 'n' spurs (his are hand-made and initialed) and by his buckle(the bigger the better)! You might spot a red-indian in one photo and there was a prize for the longest plaits. :D

Bright and windy lots of fair-weather clouds around. A selection of snaps of what is going on around the farm today. Managed to do a few close-ups of some wick-things - one very acrobatic pair on a blackberry flower were definitely up to no good! Found some men at work and some major bottle-washing going on...

The sky in No 1 has interesting cloud formations, and I like the composition.

p.s. good work with the wickthings.

I like the bottles and chair, especially the clean bottles and the chair with cobwebs on it, and thank you for the wickthings.

Love your photo's

The photo of the black swan is very interesting Dave. He sure is along way from home, I reckon about 20,000kms. He is native to here Western Australia and the Black Swan is the emblem on the Western Australian flag

That swan has had me puzzled for about 6 months, it just appeared one day on the reservoir, and I didn't see it again until the photos I just uploaded. It was only when I read in the local paper that "Ossy Mills" were advertising that they had a black swan on their mill pond that I sort of guessed it came from there. That swan if the first black swan I have seen.

Could I tempt you to post a few pictures of your area on here, we would love some different locations, especially flora and fauna.

I am not into flora and fauna but here are a few photos of my home town Todmorden.

Number five is the outlets from the river Calder, the park is a flood plain to save the town centre from flooding when the river is high.
Number six is one lucky batsman.
Number 7 is the fist pub I went in when I got my long trousers, I think I was in the fifth form at Todmorden Grammar School.

I'm not much into photography dave apart from family snaps.
At the end of this month starts the first month of winter so there won't be much about until Sept. which is the first month of Spring. It is then that the West Australian wildflowers come out which are quite impressive. I will see what i can do then.

Today in Pictures, It was sunny when I set off, so it was shirt sleeves......no trousers just shirt sleeves.

1. I am starting to wonder, will I get my Tutu wet.
2. I found some very small cows.......or are they just a long way off ?
3. Beyond is Accy, and off to the right The Coppice.
4. Its up to the lace holes moist, and Sedges abound.
5. Another Sedge.
6. Found a Red Sphagnum, its more pink, but not very common.
7. Coming down from "Ossy" moor, Grane road.
8. Helmshore in the distance, Musbury Heights off to the right, and Ogden reservoir.
9. Same view, just further along the footpath.
10. Those sheep are looking at me, it must be the Tutu.

I was born and bred in Walsden a mile and a half from Todmorden and my brother and sister still live there. The market is very good and thriving with all the stalls full, inside and out. There is an ironmonger there which is owned by the fourth generation of the same family.
When I was at Todmorden Grammar school up Ferney Lee road the art teacher took us up to Stile House to draw it. It was one of the few paintings or drawing I did which earned my over 75%.
I wonder what your relations are called, thanks for the karma by the way.

Another shot of the cricketer which looks like he may have been out but the earlier picture shows he wasn't.

I was just passing and took the photos through an open gate.

How nice that you know the house! My Aunt is Margaret Gunton (dad's sister) and her husband is Roy. They took on Stile House in the 70's and lived in it while rennovating/updating it which took quite a number of years. I still remember the old bathroom in there with it's creaky floors that made you feel like you were going downhill, it hadn't been touched inside since the 40's/50's! Lovely old house it was a favourite place for a day out. They moved out recently as it was impractical for 2 elderly people though they were really sad to have to move...
I never understood whether Tod was Yorks or Lancs I think it may be a bit of both.
Isn't it funny how quick snaps turn out to be the best photos!!

Today in Pictures, today I wet my knickers.

1. A quick walk along the Greenway, I think the hailstone should have been a sign.
2. Not be long before they have all gone.
3. Ragged Robin has started, so has the rain.
4. The lightening is a bit heavy.
5. I think I have hit the buffers.
6. A view from the bridge.
7. Wild Garlic.
8. bluebell, and whitebells, so is this a pinkbell ?
9. It was at this point the rain became extremely large in size, and the absorbency of cotton became an issue.
10. At this point a return to the car was essential, although it was 15 minutes away. there was a small amount of sleet in the rain, and I realised my knickers were wet. I had them on my head to keep it dry, .......it didn't work.

I really must say where I am, and not assume everyone knows, its the old railway line through Padiham, it comes from Burnley and goes as far as Simonstone border. I start in the centre of Padiham, at the car park, adjacent to the river Calder next to the weir, the Greenway goes right behind the Leisure Centre. It has tarmac paths if you want to keep clean, however it does not stop you getting wet knickers.

It doesn't stop you taking good photos though.

As this post is a bit sexy here is a photo I took of a couple having sex outdoors.

You are describing my Sunday outfit, normal day wear often involves a pink Tutu, and shirt sleeves, no shirt just sleeves. I wouldn't want people thinking I was strange, I want people to know for sure.I have just noticed it is raining outside, so today it will be a rubber suit and sling back wellies, to be on the safe side............... So there you have it, I am just as normal as the next man.
