Thanks Dave, the "Today in pictures" and the photograph competitions have been a great help to me recently. It has got me out and about again and I am slowly, very slowly getting to grips with life again.
I hope that all the time and effort that you and the other people who have posted photos has been appreciated by other viewers. Let's hope it continues to page 600 and onwards. Who says the camera never lies. The Pump House at Albert Dock. |

1. From the main road, its seconds until you are in the woods. 2. Its dappled shade, due to the dense canopy. 3. The stream has all but dried up. 4. I think, in the past this was an access point. 5 Glancing down to the bottom path, before we enter the Pine section. 6. Looking up the lines of Pine trees.. 7. Hapton Scouts. 8. Not going over that today. 9. Looking across to Pendle Hill from the edge of the site. 10. Looking back up the path that takes us back to the main road. |

I went on one of the free trips The British Legion Hotel organises, they have their own small coach and about 15 of us went to Albert Dock and Liverpool Cathedral for the day.
The first three were taken through the coach window with a little Pansonic Lumix pocket camera. The rest with my DSLR and they speak for them selves. |

Re: Today in pictures
Yes Frank, the statue is Billy Fury.
There were lots of people having their photos taken stood next to it, I had to wait a while to get the photo myself. You not the only one with Senior Moments. I took my camera out for the day once and left the battery on charge back home. The new Nikon I have has an grip which attaches so you can hold the camera and use the buttons to take portraits instead of landscapes. The grip has a battery in it as well and also a cartridge which you can slip in and that holds 6 AA batteries. You usually get the AA's anywhere if the other runs out of power. |

It was 16 years since I last went to Liverpool but didn't have much time to look around, we were catching the ferry boat that took us to Manchester on the Ship Canal, a good day out and one I am planning to do later this year. It was £28 then, now it is £38 and you have to make your own way to the boat, a coach takes you back to where you started from. The boat stays overnight in Manchester and does the return trip the day after.
Before that it was during the 70's when I used to go along side the ships in the docks with a tanker to put the oil on board. I hardly recognised the dock road now and all the new buildings which have sprung up around the City, Liverpool One for example. Gone is the old Sally Ann where I stayed overnight a few times. Anyway a few more from Albert Dock and then tomorrow it's off to Liverpool Cathedral. One last ice cream before I go. Enjoy them. |

Re: Today in pictures
Thanks for the Tiger photo shillelagh, it's a very unusual body, not one I have seen before but after trawling through my my many photographs I found one similar owned by Ribble. I wonder what the doors below the windscreen are for, the engine is under the floor so maybe it is an emergency exit, very strange. I will make enquiries.
I will probably go to the Bury Museum on the 7th or 8th September, I still have a few complimentary tickets from when June walked the guide dogs and I normally park at Rawtenstall and catch the train to Bury. On the 4th August there is the Pennine run which usually attracts a lot of old lorries, cars and buses, one year there were over 80. They start at Birch services and go via Todmorden, Heben Bridge, Otley and finish at Harrogate. The Sunday after The Long Haul Club, of which I am a member, will be hosting a gathering of about 30 old lorries at the Crofters on the A6 at Garstang. Both events are free. |

Great photos -envy you the cooler weather and RAIN!!! Lovely droplets , moistness and clouds...
So hot here -peak of 42°C with 75% humidity today -was 31.5°C in the house with shutters closed and fans on -PHEW! Spent the afternoon with my other half who was stung by a wasp on the farm while working - his face, lips and neck swelled up so he couldn't speak -scary -got him to A&E in time -they were fab, within minutes he'd had cortisone and was on a drip..they sent me home and kept him in under observation for 6 hours once stable -home now -sleeping and OK :) Worn out and counting down the days till I'm in Lankyshire for my hols and some cool weather... :) |

The last few snaps from my recent holiday at Southport, I hope I haven't bored you too much.
This time they are all taken in Liverpool Cathedral. The last one was taken through my hotel bedroom window which I kept closed so the aircon would keep running. It was taken with my little Panasonic Lumix and the odd thing about it is the dark sky.. Apart from a bit of cropping I never manipulate my photos, they are straight from the SD card but when I took the photo of the moon the sky was fairly light at 10PM and the moon didn't stand out as much. The camera has a 20 optical +20 digital zoom and was set on auto. Very odd. The Nikon didn't produce the same results and I tried all sorts of different setting. |

My brother Robert "Zach" Taylor was at Liverpool Uni between 1968 and 73. He stayed very near the Proddy Cathederal and drunk in the pub at the bottom of the street, he told me he had never been inside the cathedral even though he passed it every day.
Somebody mentioned the floods in Todmorden, the photos below were sent to me during last years floods by my brother. Both he and my sister luckily live on the hill side so they wasn't affected by the flood. |

Good to hear your brother and sister have escaped the flooding in Todmorden Russell.
Here are a few photos of Paddy's wigwam taken in 2008. We baptised our new camper van by taking it all the way to Southport (!) on a small private site by the pier. Had a couple of days in Liverpool by train and saw the Tall Ships Race. One of the pics shows the Anglican cathedral from the steps of the RC one. John Moores University were having a graduation ceremony there so we didn't see much of the inside of that one. The RC cathedral was under construction I think when I was a student in Preston. I used to go to Liverpool occasionally with my flatmate for concerts at the Philharmonic hall then I had a boyfriend who was teaching there and I used to go and stay with him. He's not a teacher any more... http://www.billstott.co.uk/ |

I can't think of anywhere apart from a small stretch of road through Walsden where the railway line get flooded Dianne so I would think your relation would be high and dry. Almost all the track runs higher than the valley. Photographs below are from the Todmorden History society and show Walsden station, the third one is a few hundred yards away and the lady nearest the left of the photo is my grandma. |

Today in Pictures, A walk through the Millennium Baby Woodland.
1.Walking past the Petre Family vault, once a family of note, now mostly forgotten. 2.It doesn't seem that long since the field was planted, but time passes faster the older you get, and you walk slower, does that seem fair. 3. Looking out from the woodland toward Hapton Scouts. 4. This was the shiniest moth I have ever come across, the Burnished Brass Moth. 5. This year is a good year for the Small Skipper Butterfly, they are in most places I visit. 6. The woodland does not appear to get much traffic through, and as a result the wildlife abound, especially wickthings. 7. The Green-Veined White Butterfly. 8. The general direction of travel. 9. Out of the woods, a view of Pendle Hill, and more United Utilities fencing. 10. Back at the start point, Bell Lane end, I once told a lady where I had walked from and got the order of the words mixed up. |

Last Saturday we went to Townend at Troutbeck near Ambleside, a National Trust property. It's a typical farmhouse which was owned and added to by a rather well to do family. There's a lot of carved wood in the house, both old and fairly modern (early C20) including a built in kitchen. Unfortunately there's no lighting in the house so taking photos was a bit difficult. There's a nice garden too which was easier to snap. We then went over the Kirkstone Pass towards Ullswater to round off our trip.

Today in Pictures, a walk up to Jamestone Quarry. (Grane Road)
1.Jamestone Quarry, alternating layers of sandstone and shale, ideal for quarrying. 2. In the distance , Musbury Heights another quarry site. 3. Obvious signs of habitation. 4. The quarry started life in the 18th century as a local quarry, when the railway arrived in 1846 the quarry expanded at a massive rate. 5. In 1870 the quarry employed 3000 men to cope with demand. 6. You are never far away from a turbine. 7. The stone from here was exported to India, the Far East and America through the ports of Liverpool and London. 8. I'm not going any higher, its putting my lamps out. 9. Another long gone way of life. 10. You looking at me! I hope you were paying attention to all the facts, as I will be handing out homework sheets. |

1. Dappled light along the top. 2. Remains of a bit of quarrying. 3. Same but looking back. 4. And now the wet bits. 5. The wet bits are the footpath. 6. At this point you get to know just how absorbent walking socks are. 7. But still comfortable. 8. Bit of a footpath off to the left. 9. A last low shot, just to get the gusset involved. Where did the brick come from. 10. With that we are back on Terra Firma and off to the car. |

I took a mate to Todmorden today to watch all the vintage vehicles come through on the Pennine run.
I won't bore you with the lorry photographs but I showed him around the canal bank near the town centre and these are the photos I took. No. 2 Part of the Great wall of Todmorden built 1841. No. 5 Just behind the sign is a gate, my aunty lived in the house there and had to have a lock put on, every time my little brother went there he somehow got out and fell in the cut. No. 6 The hole in the great wall. No. 7 That's how far it is to places. No. 9 I though the horseman was worth a look at. No. 10 The Triumph Roadster, I had a bronze one in 1962 but lack of brakes meant a trip to the knackers yard. Now I have to sort through the 180 photos I took of the vintage vehicles and watermark some of them for another forum. |

More Morris dancing pics. These are from last Frday at the Limeburners pub at Nether Kellett near Carnforth. John O Gaunt from Lancaster met up with a traveling team from the USA who were younger and very athletic - you know you're standing too close when you can feel the wind from their hankies, also a lot of my shots turned out blurred because the dancers were so athletic.
Anyway a selection of dances including Leapfrog and one reputedly very ancient three man one from Dolphinholme in Bowland which seems to involve lots of @ss kicking and dancing around on one leg. Also a shot of the John O Gaunt musicians who aways look so miserable (NB Dianne Richard is wearing a different rather more decorative hat) and a couple of the US musicians plus a pic of a litte doggy with a jacket on... |
