brilliant pics Jen. If I could have got the pork to leap into the oven by itself...I would have been there with you.
It looks and sounds like you had a very pleasant walk. |
Re: Today in pictures
I am sure we will do it again Margaret.
I enjoyed it but didn't make it all the way to the end. We turned round with about a quarter mile to go. Very sedate stroll, plenty of benches to sit upon and lots of little things for Dave to get his trousers wet bending down to photograph them. I am sure Jen will invite us again and if anybody who wants to go and needs a lift to Baxenden don't hesitate to ask me. No dogs or smokers allowed in car. I have just had a jacket spud followed by rice pud and half a bottle of Best Aussie white plonk, got into my night attire and will soon be in bed absolutely exhausted, but in a happy sort of way. Thanks for the afternoon out Jen and an excellent pot of coffee. By the way, the offer of a lift only extends to within a couple of miles from Accrington so don't ask DiG. |

The Nikon D7100 with all my lenses is getting a bit heavy to cart around, especially with the 800mm lens, that has its own tripod bracket. The little Lumix with the Leica lens is almost as good in most situations and the one I use more than the Nikon.. I have been trying to upload today's photographs to the site but it keps saying web error and refuses to upload them. I have even resized them down to below the accepted level but still no joy. |

Today in Pictures, Accy Webber's on the rampage, I say rampage perhaps a meandering.
1. I think she said "don't come home until teatime". 2. Wet bits with ducks. 3. This time ducks with wet bits. 4. Looking back at the gate we just came through. 5. This is tucked away over a bridge and round a corner. 6. I found a sculpture, well not so much found as came across it, well not so much came across it, as had it pointed out to me by Jen (shillelagh) I would have walked straight passed it without noticing. 7. On the way to Shoe Mill. 8. Entrance to Shoe Mill. 9. Now I think this might be a first, if you go to page 320 post 4799 picture 5 you can see me taking this photo and I think Jen got my arse just right. 10. Last shot of the outing, cup of tea time. |

So is this, the full panel. 7. The pull of the moist moments is strong. 8. Wickthing on a wet bit. 9. They only last a day, that's why they are called Day Lillies. 10. Last snap, time to head home. |

Dare taken up Dave.
Seeing as Jen posted a photograph of me looking scruffy and unloved I see no reason why I shouldn't post one of her. We met at the pub car park and it is a long way to the start of our walk. I drove down and the photo was taken while they were making their way to catch up with me. Sorry about the quality, it was just a quick chance shot from a distance away, Jen is the one on the left of the picture. |

After my little jaunt on Sunday I thought I would have a walk around on my own.
I parked my car on the Gamecock par cark and WALKED down to the Cock Bridge and back again. Then I drove down to my mate's house at Clayton Hall Drive where I got out of my car again and took some more photos, that time I never strayed more than ten yards from my car, afterwards I had to go into the house for tea and chocky biccies to get my strength up to drive home again. See, I told you I could walk alone after all. No.1 The name of the bridge. No.2 Looking down into the river Calder. No.3 Back to looking at water, from the other side. No.4 I walked in to a field and this is the bridge again. No.5 Lane down to Clayton Hall, taken through windscreen. No.6 Mum and her two chicks on the Hall lawns, the only two left out of eight. No.7 The Hall. N0.8 Hall and gates. No.9 It says "Gated Road" at the top of the lane but one clown came down while we were stood talking and had to reverse out again. It is possible to walk all the way to Martholme Grange on the path, according to DaveMac. No.10 Heading back home, taken through windscreen. |

I would love to accompany you again Jen but; I don't think I could manage to put up with two dogs trying to do three laps around my ankles, with their leads trying to cut of the blood supply to my feet.

Since Shillelagh took us for a walk last Sunday I have got more adventurous and strayed further afield, I think she should be helping me pay for the clog irons I am wearing out.
Yesterday it was Cock Bridge and Clayton Hall. Today I did about two miles around the canal bank at Barrowford. No.1 Starting from the lower car park. No.2 Looking along the canal. No.3 More locks. No.4 The reservoir looked a bit low. N0.5 Lock keepers cottage. No.6 Boats moored at the highest point on the Leeds-Liverpool canal, the locks are all downhill from there on. No.7 A very welcome sight, a brew and chocolate cake later and I was ready for off again. No.8 Sorry ducky, nowt for you. No.9 Green reflection in the water. No.10 A leaky lock. |

Today in Pictures took me from St Mary's Burial Ground to the Millennium Woods and back again.
1. Start point the burial ground. 2. I was going to say a couple of Ladybirds, but on close inspection I don't think one is a lady. 3. The direction we are heading. 4. Big trees from little thingys. 5. Puff Balls. 6. You wait for one, and two come along at once. 7. Looking over to Hapton Scouts. 8. You wouldn't want that flying up your nostrils. 9. A gate not used for a while. 10. The direction we are now heading. |
Re: Today in pictures
Nice ones Dave, where are the Millennium Woods?
It could be another new experience for me to go there. My car is a 4X4 but my legs are really only good for firm level ground so I am starting my walks with nice gentle strolls. The camera is good company and is a good excuse to keep stopping for a rest. I am still a bit stiff from Sunday but loosening up a bit now. A good bottle of McGuigans gold label white Aussie plonk is a good lubricating agents for weary bones. Jen told me about a Transport Festival at the East Lancs Railway Museum at Bury on Sunday. That's more my interest so hopefully I will be there. I misread her text, I thought she said she was going on her Velocette. I was visualising her with Tedster clinging on to her while sat on the pillion. Now that would have been one photo worth waiting for. |

No.1 A "Happy snap" as I call random shots. No.2 I carefully avoided the white mushroom like things, they are there hoping people will trip on them and go for a dip in the water. No.5 He looked annoyed because I didn't share my choccy biccy with him. No.6 I can see four bridges there. No.7 Looks like a bonny place to live. No.8 Just another "Happy snap". |

Today in Pictures, Mercer Park and a bit of the Churchyard.
1. The Autumn flowering plants are just starting to make an appearance. 2. Mercer House, for a short time this used to be my office, bottom right window. 3. Begonias are still trying their best, other summer bedding has given up the ghost. 4. Looks like a Campanula, but will throw that up in the air. 5. Just a couple of ends after lunch. 6. Looking up toward the memorial. 7. Have been stalking this butterfly all summer for a good shot, the Speckled Wood Butterfly on a Sedum. 8. Growing on the "footy" area. 9. In All Saints Churchyard, a Brittlegill Fungi, one day I will be on the floor like this and someone will give me CPR. 10. I went all giddy when I found this, its a Giant Polypore, the size of dustbin lid, it's the biggest fungi I have come across so far. |

Went for a drive with hubby today to pick up hard-to-get deli items in the next town.
As the weather was so nice, we took the scenic route. I snapped photos on the way back with my cell phone camera. 1. There's a bend in the road coming up. 2. A tree (taking photos to distract myself). 3. More trees (not a Top Gear moment today, thank you. Hubby is restraining himself) 4. Going a bit faster now. 5. Better watch out: there are four- legged beasts afoot! 6. Fence made of tree roots. 7. Ah... Ice Cream! (Not really, we stopped for apples) 8. A Happy Snap. 9. Another Happy Snap - I just liked the colours. Fall is just around the corner, got to make the most of days like this. |
Re: Today in pictures

Its a bit early for frost here, however rain is forecast for the next few days, begonias are a good choice over here as they tolerate wet conditions very well, and thrive were other plants just die. |

Today in Pictures, it was forecast for rain, and rain it did.
1. Look at this and play the theme from Coronation Street in your head. 2. The lane between Lower Barnes Street and the Hyndburn Bridge pub. The fact that it is cobbled means it must have had some importance when industry thrived down here. 3. Due to the rain there has to be a moist moment. 4. River Hyndburn as it heads for the pub. 5. Change of direction, same river. 6. Wet stuff all around. 7. Just time for another moist moment. 8. Alright then, one more. |

The plant you see is a very common weed here, Himalayan Balsam, and has become very invasive, but it does have a nice flower, it can get over 6 feet tall. It was introduced in 1839 by Kew Gardens as an ornamental plant but soon escaped into the wild and became the problem it is today, along with Giant Hogweed and Japanese Knotweed, another two plants that are invasive and push out native species. |

Driving along Hyndburn road today I saw a sign advertising a Model Railway Exhibition in the Hyndburn Sports centre. Nowt better to do so I popped in for ten minutes and came out two hours later. I was amazed at the quality and size of the layouts, it's on Sunday as well if you fancy taking the kids or re-living your youth.
No.1 Looking down from the balcony. No.2 Wishful thinking. No.3 Station that never was. (I think). No.4 Liverpool Lime street station. No.5 Ditto. No.6 An American paper mill model rail yard. No.7 Proper smoke from model shop fire. No.8 Another busy station. No.9 The big layout was controlled from this panel and run to a strict schedule. No.10 Part of the big layout. If you look closely at the last picture you can see the effort the modellers have put in to get it as authentic as possible. Notice the policeman frisking the chap outside the cannabis cafe, in the window of the Wilkinsons Hi Fi shop at the end there were two tiny model TV's flickering away in the window. I was lucky that I always carry my little pocket camera with me. |
