Nice change of pace there, number 3 has an emotion attached, not sure if its "I'm tired" or " I can't do this anymore" but I do like a drum, you can't beat them.

Well Richard has a nice accent - but it's Somerset - and it flummoxes a lot of people - even me sometimes!

Yes Mick it's changed - had at least one extension built recently and a conservatory type place. Don't think Boddies have pubs any more, it's probably a free house, they usually have four or five real ales on from various breweriees and they do decent food.

When we came back to the area in 2007 it was closed but has had a real makeover since then and is a very popular watering hole especially in this weather when you can sit outside in the large garden or stand by the river.

There is a chimney in each shot, but very difficult to see, they are not used as far as I know, and the one on the factory bottoms has a ring of communication aerials around its top.

I guess its the explosions mixing up the soil and rubble bringing seeds to the surface, a similar effect to the poppies that sprang up in France.

I'm with Dave on liking number 7 best - I have a weakness for Hollyhocks.

The nicest ones I have ever seen were growing along a little side-street between some cottages on the Ille de Re -wonderful island off the coast of Brittany. I will have to look out my photos -weren't digital back in the 90's! :thankya:

Just a selection of flowers around the farm this morning. The Lagerstroemia (tree with pink flowers) burst into flower over the last couple of days. It is literally humming with bees! There are some unusual flowers which my neighbour has planted including a rose with variegated petals which I've never seen before. My favourite has to be the lavender though, smells gorgeous and I love the shabby, distressed backdrop!

Have looked for my photo of hollyhocks but to no avail -I lent it to my mum as a subject for her to paint and I suspect she didn't give it back. Here are two photos showing what she produced from the photos to give an idea. The small oval version is a water-colour she made into a card and the larger one is done in pastels. I have them both framed and up in the hallway!

Nice paintings, The thing about lending photos is the longer they have them the easier it is to forget that they borrowed them. I scanned all my old photos into the computer, and burnt them to CD so I have a copy.

It looks lovely! I just looked on Google Earth for the Island of Aero - was struck by how close Denmark is to Scandinavia. My sense of geography has been sadly lacking.

I think you're right and it is a Calla Lily -my neighbour Andreina is very keen on her flowers and keeps the borders and other areas round the farm looking nice all year round with the help of her son. He has just made a new herb box which I have photographed today!

The lavender shot is my favourite and I think I'll send it to my mum, electronically this time though, so that she can paint it!

We have Portulaca here in Canada too. Nice bright colours, and quite resistant to heat and drought. The dusty glass bottles were for making wine, I believe. I love the shot of the corn stalk against the old wall, and the spider you caught just to the right of the old mailbox. Great shots - I feel transported!

This has to be one of my favourite places, I posted in the winter this place, and the top of the hill, Musbury Heights, and that was in two foot of snow.

It's the nettles that get the nutmegs, thistles just turn legs into a scratching post, especially in shorts, serves me right for having them on my head.

A lovely walk. Do you get many Mosquitos in woodland areas? Over here we wouldn't dare venture out without some evil smelling potion.

I am not aware that we have any mosquitoes in the area, or even in the region, but I could be wrong on that one. I think the worst flying insect is the midge in woodland areas.

Any time your welcome. I used to get confused myself but the tortoiseshell is far more common and the admiral a bit brighter in colour. I love the painted lady - like the admiral but faded! Years ago when we had a real cottage garden in Wiltshire there was an infestation of them - not quite the right word but they were everywhere, apparently blown over from Africa!

Just a few shots from yesterday - it's too hot to go out today except if absolutely necessary (36°C).

1 Maize plant which has sprung up growing through a vine
2 Building where the vine is growing -the oldest part of the farm dating back to 1760
3 The farrier has been again -a bucket full of good luck!
4 Yucky spider - the bodies are about an inch across
5 Yucky spider with legs opened out

Today in Pictures. A walk through Clayton Fields revealed a fence right across the middle, United Utilities are going to dig through the middle, they have already started at Warwick Avenue and are heading for the fields.

1. Knapweed.
2. Meadowsweet, a by product of the field being fenced off, no horses trampling and eating stuff.
3. Great Burnet.
4. Betony.
5. Looking down the field, almost at the waters edge.
6. Is it something I said.
7. I don't think they are speaking.
8. And now a fag.
9. I am not as fast as you uphill.

Today, some pics from my garden, which hasn't been touched for two years but still has some colour among the weeds.

1 My new garden lounger, guarded by the fleece of Heribert the Herdwick sheep which Richard bought me last week (I'm still in shock, so rarely does he buy me presents)
2 View from the lounger
3 Elecampane (Inula helenium) with tansy behind
4 Striped grass and flag iris in the pond (but no water!)
5 More of the same
6 Lychnis coronaria
7 Red valerian going to seed
8 Lavender behind a shrub whose name I can never remember
9 Fig tree and rhubarb
10 Probably the sum total of our plum crop for this year

More tomorrow

when you go to Fleetwood with your older brother and your little nephew (even tho he's 21 and just finished uni .. he still gets called little!! :D) you don't get much chance to go in places .. especially when someone has walked past a motorbike .. fallen for it .. asked a load of questions of the owner ie half an hour later ..finding out a new one is £24,500 .. oh and carries on walking then finds another group of these motorbikes .. and then starts asking questions of the owners again .. one of which had only bought this 2 years ago .. and spent £5000 on additions .. one of which is a dvd player .. (on a motorbike!!) anyway heres some more from sunday ...

1 couldn't decide what it was .. and no one was around to ask ..
2. saw it in action on its way home .. lol

I`ve had both a new one and an old one. I know which I prefer. The old one was like driving a go cart around, wasn`t the fastest but great fun. The new style one was a lot faster, but they are minis in name only. When I`m done with the jobs on the house, I want an old one to do up.

We had a red mini clubman back in the 70's with a matching red and black trailer -we went all over France in it on camping holidays. My sister and I were squashed in the back sitting on 4 pillows and it also had a roof-rack on with our cases!!!

Stuck in traffic on our way down to Dover, a London cabbie leaned out and shouted to my dad, "Oy, Mate! You forgot the bleedin' kitchen sink!" :D

I have have just returned from a ten day free holiday in Southport, courtesy of the British Legion. Full board and as good a hotel as you could wish for, a hundred yards from the pier, right on the promenade overlooking the gardens.

The pictures are really "today in pictures a week late"

1 The Hotel
2 Staircase which I never used because I used the lift.
3 View from the rear window of the bay in my room. The other window looked out over the gardens and lake.
4 Another hotel further down the promenade. The British Legion used part of it when they refurbished their own hotel four years ago.
5 Boats on the lake.
6 Something on a pole.
7 Bridge over lake.
8 Pier.
9 Lamp over pier.
10 a pretend paddle boat.

Plenty more photos to follow day by day.

Southport is not a bad place to stay locally Dave, it's not as brash as Blackpool.
Next time you buy a poppy from the British Legion just remember that some of the funds raised go to running these hotels for ex servicemen. It's the second time I have been, first time was with my wife and this time alone, it was very emotional seeing the things we had done and seen before. The staff are all fantastic and can't do enough to help. One lunch time I just asked for a jam butty and no problem that's what I got.

I will say this tho ... in the pic of the yellow mini my nephew had been eyeing it up .. and said to my bro (the bloke with his back to the camera) I want one ... my brother said pass your test first .. and then ask his other aunt what she thinks about mini's ... she always had minis from what I remember she had 4 .. until she went underneath a lorry on grane road on her way to work in Blackburn .. slid on ice ... she never had a mini after that ...

Great set of photos shillelagh. I used to date a lass with a very early mini, the front seats would fold right up to the dash making the rear seating area ideal for!!!.?

Never mind Mick, lets have a photo of the Leyland Tiger,
Did you see the ex Ribble recovery truck? That was based on a Ribble PS2 Tiger which was new in 1949, restored by a couple of Manchester lads who used as many original parts as possible.
I prefer the Tiger Cub myself, much lighter to drive although it had a crash box.

You probably have seen my photos of one on here with me behind the wheel.

That's enough porn for this time of day.

edit,
Ooops. I just scrolled back and found your photo of BD2 Tiger recovery truck. I posted a photo of the cab interior a while back.
