4. Can you tell where I am now.
5. You can see the ski slope.

When you can strike matches on them you have attained the true state, you can then leave the temple.

Not sure brave is the right word, however todays offering is a tad colder than yesterday, I say a tad, if I'm honest my outing was bordering on the idiotic, some of the drifted snow was up to my Tutu.

Today in Pictures, I asked Sherpa Tenzing if he was coming, he said it was too cold for him, I said OK Norgay.

1. We are about to leave the sanctuary of the trees.
2. Thats where we are going.
3. If only I had brought a towel.
4. I wonder why the gritters have not done up here.
5. Perhaps its drifting a bit too much.
6. Its a mossicle.
7. Just so you know, I am sat in the snow for this shot.
8. Time to head back.
9. Its a cold aspidistra, and I don't mean the sedge plant.
10. Back in the safe haven of the trees. just in time, I can hear the helicopter arriving.

The first level at Hapton Quarry after walking through Hameldon Woods, thats the end of it in picture two.

Today in Pictures, lets skip down to the river.

1. Down the lane, in the shadow of Pendle.
2. Thats Hapton Quarry in the distance, those big things are trees.
3. I think that quarry is following me, its still there in the distance.
4. You are probably thinking what is he doing out in the middle of the river, well I will tell you.........doggy paddle.
5. Lets see where this stream goes.
6. I know just how you feel.....its the cold weather.
7. Heading upstream.
8. I was going to shoot the rapids, but at my age it has to be shoot the slowlys.
9. They were not that steep on the way down !
10. Back up a different lane, no I'm not lost....hello is that international rescue

Today in Pictures, one minute there is a bit of blue in the sky, the next horizontal snow is blowing my skirt up.

1. I can see Pendle Hill wherever I go, even here, Pendle Hill.
2. It doesn't get smaller if I move away. Thats the ski slope.
3. Thats Clitheroe, if you squint you can see the castle.
4. Still sticking their head up despite the cold snap.
5. Yet another dry stone wall.
6. Stunted growth, but I do my best, I am standing on tiptoes for this shot. Tiptoes is furious, he only came to hold my tripod.
7.Now for the atmospheric shots.
8. Told you.
9. Thats your lot, its time to head home.
10. Looking down the other side to Sabden as we head home.

Today in Pictures. Living in the shadow of Pendle.

A selection of landscapes as I walked down to Fosters swing bridge on the canal, and back across the fields. Mostly Pendle Hill in the distance with one of Hapton Quarry and one of the field we were about to cross.

2.There are a lot of uphill bits first.
3. Ta Dah,
4. It was built to accommodate two Russian Cannons seized in the Crimean war. and was there when the park opened in 1857.
5. The highest point.
6. The view across Blackburn.
7. Heading back down.
8. There is a fence around this lake, so I am unable to wet my trollies.
9. Smaller lake, with another fence.
10. Just before we turn around, and exit the side gate.

Nice one Jen - must have been a bit cold in those tents, maybe explains the lack of punters.

A bit different from this:

RAWTENSTALL ANNUAL FAIR

Down behind the gasworks, down in Rawtenstall,
That's a little town in Lancashire.
Last Saturday night, me and the lads,
Ee by gum we 'ad some reet good cheer.
There were ice creams, switch backs, coconuts, and waxworks,
Figure eights and roundabouts,
And weren't we all delighted when we heard the showman shout:

"Oh, roll up, roll up, come and see the fat girl,
Forty stone o' loveliness and evr'y bit's her own."
Ee she were a big 'un, Wi't accent on the big,
And all the fellas wi' walking sticks kept giving her a dig.
She were a great big lassie, as didn't know her chassis
Were blown up wi' air I do declare.
Well everthin' were champion, until some silly clown,
Stabbed her with a pin - said the showman with a frown
"All hands to the pumps lads, mi vessel's goin' down",
At the Rawtenstall Annual Fair.

"Roll up, roll up, see the house o' myst'ry,
Ladies pay a tanner to be tickled in the dark."
In went the lads, just for a peep,
The showman pulled a lever and they landed in a heap.
Well, down he shot 'em, right to the bottom,
Frills and things for ev'ryone to see.
There were shoutin', screamin', ev'rythin' were rife,
I saw some funny things I've never seen in all mi life,
I saw some funny things I've never seen upon mi wife,
At the Rawtenstall Annual Fair.

"Roll up, roll up, come and see the mermaid,
See the lovely lady, half a woman, half a fish."
In went the lads, to show it wasn't swank,
When little Tommy Higgins put some whisky in the tank.
Well, she got frisky, swimmin' in the whisky,
And when she came up for air,
She bowed to the audience, gave her tail a swish,
Her tail it came off and she really looked delish.
She said "What do you want boys, a bit o' meat or fish",
At the Rawtenstall Annual Fair.

"Roll up, roll up, see the tattoed lady,
See the lovely lady with the pictures on her skin."
In went the lads and they began to cheer,
To see that on her back were all the towns o' Lancashire.
There were Odsall Bottom, Manchester City,
The town hall standin' in the square.
There were Oldham, Bolton, Ashton-under-Lyne,
'Coal pit up at Burnley were lookin' mighty fine,
Till someone shouted "Daddy, don't go down the mine",
At the Rawtenstall Annual Fair.

Today in Pictures, I wet to see if the bluebells are anywhere close to flowering, I reckon they will be out by bonfire night.

1. Have you met our Ivy.
2. Do those trees look a bit menacing !
3. Where did all these uphill bits come from, its flat on the map.
4. Looking in the direction of Clitheroe.
5. If you stand on one leg and squint you can just see Clitheroe Castle.
6. Right time for a sit down.
7. Another uphill bit with a seat, someone said you will need crampons for this bit, I said, I didn't realise we were having soup.
8. Who needs crampons when you have hover wellies.....can you smell burning rubber..........what time does Tommy Blank open, I want vulcanising.
9. Hapton quarry is in the distance to the left of the picture.
10. To the left of that copse of trees there is a derelict building, it was built in 1738........you will find my postings are educational......when you have finished reading it you will say "well that taught me a lesson"

5. If you stand on one leg and squint you can just see Clitheroe Castle.
6. Right time for a sit down.
7. Another uphill bit with a seat, someone said you will need crampons for this bit, I said, I didn't realise we were having soup.

Today in Pictures, the sun was out, the sky was blue, and so was I, it was bitter in the wind.

1. Heading down to the river.
2. I found a wet bit, before I got to the big wet bit.
3. The tree herds are grazing on high ground.
4. A bridge over bubbled water.
5. They are still grazing.
6. We have arrived at the big wet bit, the River Calder.
7. Heading back we noticed some of the herd have moved on.
8. A last glance back at the big wet bit.
9. I came across a field that housed all the lambs.
10. Almost back at the car, well 5 minutes away.

It is a super shot - I agree with Dave, really captures his character! The one of Blackpool in the distance would have fitted nicely into the competition theme of far away too.

Love Dave's fleurs" -great close-ups. Has Mrs. Davemac had to put knee-patches on your breeches yet? ;)

Today in Pictures, its a long walk there, and a bit further coming back.

1. Churn Clough reservoir as we pass at speed.
2. And you thought all the snow had gone.
3. Who did that !
4. I walked for over an hour and came across this, overlooking Clitheroe, it was erected by the scouts of Clitheroe and District, to mark the centenary of the organisation on the 1st August 2007.
5. This was close by, I think it is either a refuge, or an observation (small) tower, or both.
6. I will never get over that with Bob, lets turn right.
7. Blood and sand.........HEEEELP.
8. I found a wet bit.
9. Not sure about this, its almost invisible so close to the ground, it might be a sedge, possibly.
10.I get the feeling I am being watched.

On the top of Pendle Hill, I thought they were just snow melt ponds but they were full of spawn, and a mass of frogs dived to the bottom when they felt me coming

There used to be a lot of frogs in the pond on Plantation Road going up to the Coppice. The water was like a washing machine when all the frogs were mating

2. my first Coltsfoot, on the canal banking again.
3. You get the gist, I didn't see the fly until looking at it on the computer.
4. I don't know how it survives up there.
5. The equator, often called the halfway point on the Leeds Liverpool canal.
6. Is it a crunchie, no its a melted brick from inside the coke ovens at Oswaldtwistle.
7. The blocked off spur at the "ovens".
8. One side.
9. The other.
10. The flue on the smaller section of "ovens".

Today in Pictures, Mill Lane to Martholme Lane and back again.

1. This is the walk, not much to see when there are no leaves on the trees.
2. As its Tuesday, its the turn of all the yellow flowers to come out. Coltsfoot.
3. Coltsfoot again, this time a clutch.
4. Marsh Marigold.
5. Primroses.
6. Before you know it, this will be 6 ft tall, Polygonum.
7. The turn around point, the River Calder.
8.Things got a bit weird at this point, just watching Lambs and Sheep walking loose in the lane.
9. Turned around and these were walking/running toward me, stamping their feet.
10. I got the feeling they were thinking I had one of their lambs on a lead, and they wanted it back. I found screaming like a girly made them run away.

Dianne, I'm not being picky, but isn't the first picture a Magnolia tree?

I only know because my dad always longed for one and I bought him one......it didn't flower until the 1st anniversary of his funeral.......and only had a couple of flowers on it at that blooming.

We are still waiting for the blooms this year.
Lovely pictures...all of them.

1. Flowers around the car park.
2. We haven't left the car park yet.
3. We are off, the wet bits.
4. We head up toward Dinkley.
5. The river is at a low level today.
6. Still not many flowers, just a burst now and again.
7. Still not sure about the Mediterranean weather.
8. The suspension bridge comes into view.
9. I'm just glad I brought my waterproof pants.
10. The bridge, from this point we head off to the right, and away from the wet bits.

2nd lot of pics from yesterday's walk. As to the Camelia /Magnolia -I don't know -asked the old lady in the garden when we were chatting and she said a Camelia!

The canal is having the banks reinforced at the moment because they are being eroded away by the work of a creature called a Nutria (bit like a little beaver!) they are a real pest over here and cause lot of damage -there's a photo of a family of them on the banks of the canal and one of them in the water!
