it could be Platts lodge...at the back of what used to be Giron Freres....the velvet makers.
In fact the more I think about it...the more likely it seems.
Especially as one of the other pics shows the stanchions that used to support the railway line......now being used as a decorative feature.

Today in Pictures, just a short walk around the viaduct.

1. A view from Martholme Lane.
2. Heading for the railway line greenway.
3. I know......that's what I thought.....Puff Balls.
4. The line in dappled shade.
5. A rare find, a long discarded sleeper.
6. A view from the viaduct.
7. People come up with reasons not to open this gate, most are selfish reasons for stopping the masses taking a stroll.
8. One day perhaps I could walk over there.
9. Coming down is not as exhausting as the reverse.
10. And here we are going up Martholme Lane.

Another 10 from Lake Garda - a really lovely delicatessen where they produce their own cheese (picnic lunch bought here), The 12th C cloisters of the church in Gargnano which were being used as a gallery for some modern art a great contrast I thought,a couple of pics outside an artist's home - she updates the murals every year, a framed brush outside another artist's gallery, chillies in a pot on a windowsill (this is one of my favourite photos!), sign for the bar on the jetty at Villa with orange trees.

Quite a bit of blue again Eric ;) :D

Thanks for the memories of the area Dianne.
It's changed a bit since 1964 when I was on the coaches, not a lot but more touristy.
I'd love one more go, as a passenger this time.

I like the Morris's as well Margaret. me and a pal shared a Morris 8 1937 soft top, blue and ran like a bag of porridge but we loved it.

Re: Today in pictures

My dear old Dad bought a beat up old Morris 8......had a hard black top, but was red like the one in the pictures.....he didn't pay much for it(we hadn't got much)....he worked on it as a hobby and it took us to St Annes many times......Edisford Bridge after school to play by the river.......Ma gave him lots of stick for spending the money she had saved up to take us on trips during the school hols.....but it gave us many a very happy outing......I would guess we had the moneysworth ten times over.
It was fine as long as you didn't want to go fast.

Weather being a bit grim & grisly at present so the planned "Tentering" was turned into a flying visit to the "Trakkerists" roughing it at the Jeggen Treff & here are the highlights.

The view over Jeggen - Argo Avenger 8x8 on arrival - Avenger after playing in the mud - Alkyfrolics at the "Detty" Bier wagon - A return to the residence for afternoon teas & the view - A host of enthralled spotters enjoying the machinery - After the darkness comes light - An old Ursus (Polish) from the 20's/30's - The Witchit (happily waving her "Diesel Wiesel" mug, yes, I was given one too :o) Henry & Nessi - A little visitor, so we stuffed him full of bikkys. :)

Today in pictures is actually yesterdays pictures. You can see this pink blush from many places in the borough, I had to walk through it.

1. A day when the clouds were passing at speed making the light and shade a challenge.
2. Sabden off to the right.
3. I have seen a sign.
4. It doesn't get any closer.
5. That's a bit of extra carving for a gate post in the wilds. Of course it wasn't when this was a busy cart track.
6. Churn Clough Reservoir, base camp before the ascent.
7. I missed out the gasping and panting, and just cut to the placing of the flag.
8. Such a small plant is visible for miles.
9. We let the huskies of the lead for a breather before the descent.
10. Heading away, it looks like the weather is taking a turn for the worst.

I know its developing in too quite a herd. One mine, the next door neighbours, who I take out on Saturdays, and my friend who had his sons dog for the day.
That big brown jobbie was a pain in the asparagus, every time I adopted my down on one knee pose to take a snap, the crazy dog ran up and licked my camera, with a slaver that can only be described as translucent and sticky, with a supply that appeared endless. I was still wiping it off today.

Some more photos taken last weekend 1-6 are in Verona again, of San Zeno Maggiore and the cloisters, where I went to see my god-daughter Ana sing with Westholme choir (she's the blonde girl just behind the bassoon!) The others are from Castel Arquato - view of the hills , man risking drinking the fountain water (not a good idea probably), unusual Fresco in the 12th C church of the last supper - they are seated at a round table and Jesus has a templar cross in his halo, the font is thought to be 7th century and remains from an earier church on the site which was destroyed in an earthquake.

Thanks, I think of her every time I see a picture of that structure as we had a few comments about it between us. I already have my competition folder ready for uploading, looks like I will have to delete one and put one in, I must admit it never crossed my mind that it fitted into the "anything with legs" competition, you can have some karma for that, and a like.

ps. just tried to give you the karma, I have to spread it around first.

I emailed a few photos to Suzie of the same structure a few years ago and some of the area around her house, and I think I posted them on her at one time.

Its sods law, when you leave your camera at home rare pictures present themselves.

1&2 are my favourites. I wish I had snapped those.

Number 10 is superb.
They look to be having a great time...almost like children at the paddling pool.

Today in Pictures, I set off in heavy rain, and came back in bright sunshine.

There was something tucked into the web at the top of the berries, but couldn't make out what it was.

Today in Pictures, it was a pants day for weather, so I decided to calibrate my fungal detector ready for the Autumnal fungal avalanche , so with a new set of batteries and the sensitivity set to "mycelium 6" which you will agree is a middle range sensitivity, I wandered down to the woodlands.

I have just had a spare Nikon D80 camera converted to infra red only and it came back this morning.
I couldn't even wait to read the accompanying documents before I poked the lens through window and took this snap. Straight from the card.
All my D7100 len's will fit it so I am going to have a good read of the book and see how I get on later.
I think I am going to start using the Nikon photo editing software which is supplied with the D7100. It's pretty comprehensive and I think it can work it's magic on infra red files..
The other photo was a chance shot through the Club window, the driver, an elderly gent came in to ask for directions.. As always my pocket Panasonic was handy so thats the result.

Today in Pictures, it was a day to get a moist gusset, with a twist, this time it was salty. Plus some "stuff" I haven't a clue what it is. I suspect that metal thingy is a sculpture as it resists the waves, something to look out for on my next visit.

Dave have you forsaken the woodland walks and the flowers in favour of the sea, the surf and the beach?
Not that I am complaining. I love your new vista.

I have sat on those steps at Cleveleys with the wind in my hair and the seagulls overhead...I got out before the tide came in and wet MY gusset.:D

I like to think the sea is just another photographic opportunity, but the real reason is my wife was feeling neglected, she wanted taking to the seaside, cheeky mare wanted me to bring her back as well.

It never occurred to me to check the tide tables.

She is not computer savy so wont be playing on here, however I don't type anything on here that I wont say to her, although I usually wait until she is asleep before I mention it.

I haven't ruled out the possibility that someone could read my input and tell her, although I do have a backup story, these hackers are such a menace.

It is that Dave, we had a nosey at it last year while waiting for it to get dark before we took a trundle through the loomies at Blackpool. :)

Since the revamp of the promenade I hadn't walked this far up, but, as she who must be obeyed had emptied my wallet and headed for the shops I took the opportunity to investigate.
As I was taking photos of it people were asking me what it was, I had to say I hadn't a clue, I will have to go when the tide is out and have a proper look.

Yes, It is a sculpture.
When I was in Lytham on a jaunt with Ma, I took the bus to Cleveleys and walked along the newly(well, it was new to ME) refurbished front......there are a few sculptures and this is one of them.
I think Cleveleys was trying to emulate those men in the sea at Formby(I think).

I liked the steps...it gave me somewhere to sit and eat my chips.......when the seagulls would leave me alone.

Gremlin 31-08-2014 08:58

You lead a very full and exciting life Margaret.
Sat on steps eating chips, what next? Skirt tucked up bloomers and paddling in the brine.

Re: Today in pictures

Oh Russell...that would scare the hell out of the seagulls...and the holiday makers.

Yes, and there was me thinking that when I retired I would be snorkeling off the Maldives, sipping something cold and bubbly while surveying some exotic scene, dancing the tango with some snake hipped dancer(not himself - he hasn't got snake hips).......and all I get is Chips in Cleveleys!
Mind you...they were exceedingly good chips...too good to give to seagulls.

Just goggled the thing, it's called "Mary's Shell" one of a number of artyfartyfacts dotted along the coastline. Well they need something to get the dodderys out in the fresh air & stop them haranguing the youth, running them over with their zimmer frames, prodding with their walking sticks or overpopulating the tea rooms & sit down chipperys! ;) :)

Now son....I fit into the category of dodderers...the ones that Jeremy Paxman would have visit the Dignitas branch, that he wants in every large town(and he should remember he is in the Doddery Zone himself at 64)........although I don't have a frame or a walking stick. that is the direction I am heading...as are all of us! :)

Nah, not having that Ma! You're way too wry & sprightly, gallivanting & zipping about all over the shop still. What we're talking about here are the creeping pedestrians, white cloth cap or headscarf regardless of weather, scented with lavender & taking up the whole street as they shuffle along gumming a boiled sweetie, making unpredictable stops in front of shop windows or just stopping dead for no apparent reason right in the middle of a thoroughfare, then tsking & tutting at the audacity & impatience of the modern whippersnappers as you try to edge past them to try to get wherever you're going with your limited time. :)

One more attempt at this new fangled infra red photgraphy, a quick shot on my way back from Read. I was going to experiment a bit but sods law dictates that when you only have one battery with you it goes flat. Next step is to study the book on infra red photography and photo manipulation I bought.
As you know I am not a fan of using software to enhance photos, they always look a little false and not true to the scene but I will have a go with the infra red jobby.
No doubt I will have wasted my money having the camera converted but it is all in the aim for further knowledge of photography.
