Re: Today in pictures

Manipulated pictures only look false if you do certain things wrong.....I see some manipulation as......not necessarily improving a picture....but making it something different....something which expresses my feelings about the scene.
Pictures are very personal. We could both go out and take the same thing, but it would mean something different to both of us, it is because we each have our own ideas about what the picture portrays.

I see pictures I have taken in the past and straight away I am back in that day.....having a rerun of what happened, the things I felt...the words I said.
Photography is personal.

I like your picture with the infra red....but I think the applications will be limited.....or is that just my lack of imagination?

As you know I am not a fan of using software to enhance photos, they always look a little false and not true to the scene but I will have a go with the infra red jobby.
No doubt I will have wasted my money having the camera converted but it is all in the aim for further knowledge of photography.

It makes for an interesting shot, Gremlin.

I had a friend and his wife round this afternoon Margaret and we were looking at some photo from years ago upto recent ones.
I agree with you regarding recalling the events or places where the photos were taken and the memories that come flooding back.
So much so that I closed the box before the tears flowed.

Sometime Russell......you need to travel back to past times. Life can only be lived forwards, but it can only be understood by going back....however painful that might be.
And tears can clean the wounds that time inflicts on us.

Maybe infra red photography is not for everybody but it is interesting to experiment with different camera settings and see the results.
I am the sort of chap who is always wanting to know and learn.
I recently bought a small model airplane engine so I could take it apart to see how it worked, them I re assembled it and put it back in the box. I'm also re reading my GCSE complete mathematics course.
I will post the odd I.R photo when I have "messed about" more because I know they have a limited audience.

Russell it is good that you have an enquiring mind...and that you like to experiment...and you will always have an audience for your pics on here.
Learning is good...but I would have to draw the line at Maths.......it was never one of my strong subjects...in fact I was rubbish at it:)

Thanks M, I dislike all of them critters (caterpillars are 'ok').
I especially dislike (big) spiders

I don't mind the critters you mentioned (except mice ) I can't say I've ever seen a water vole, are they the critters that are similar to a aquatic mouse? (If so I don't like them too).

I'm liking the idea of my own well though, it'd certainly come in handy if we ever experience civil unrest and it's got to be better the tap stuff :D

You don't need infra red for night shots Frank.

This photo was taken through my patio doors last night about nine thirty.
It was really dark at the bottom of my garden about 50 feet away.
The difficult part is focusing the shot as it is too dark to see the subject.
14.5 seconds delay, f 5.6 50mm focal length, no artificial lighting and obviously using a tripod. My hands are not too steady after a few pints.

It was a bit lively to say the least, we got there at high tide and you could feel the spray long before you could see the sea.

Thank you for the compliment Mobertol. DiG is right, when you are in foreign parts you do tend to pay more attention to whats happening in the food department. I got my cooking skills from Moira my ex wife,(God bless her, she makes Gordon Ramsey look like a dog meat chef) When we agreed to go our separate ways, after she kicked me out, I felt the loss of her cooking to such a degree, it prompted me to get cracking in the kitchen. When I'me not sure about something I try to find it on the net, if I can't find what I want, I ring Moira my ex wife and she puts me right.

Forget UK standards, here its a totally different ball game. I don't know, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if some of those drivers were off duty policemen. Remember, we are way out in the boonies, near the Cambodia border,(a bit like the "Wild west") its a different story when you get into the cities and big towns, there are traffic regs which are enforced rigidly. If you get stopped round here you have to understand that we have the best police force that money CAN buy.

For a moment there I thought you'd hopped over to Naples! :D

There was a scandal here last month on the news, we were all shocked. A family of 5 on a scooter plus a pram strapped to the back -the father was driving with one hand as he was smoking and they were all without crash helmets. Someone filmed it as they passed through the center of Naples...

That photo beats it hands down - incredible! Amazing how they could stay balanced with 9 on board. The child in the bucket really takes the biscuit...

Re: Today in pictures

I posted my photos of them on the "Last Chance" thread.
I thought I had picked a good spot just below the old hospital entrance looking down towards the brewery but they were too high for a decent close up, even with the biggest longest lens I had. They came over the hill between Blackburn and Samelsbury and couldn't really drop down too far because of the Grane road.
Probably better up there to take the photos.
I won't get another chance but it was great to see and hear them.

It was the missus who saw it and pointed it out to me. It was at the side of one of the car parks by Kielder Water.
