Today in Pictures starts yesterday.

1. First it was walkies, the old brickyard pond, Whinney Hill Road just behind the trees.
2. Spindle Tree.
3. Then it was Royal Blackburn, with an hour to pass.
4. My mooching found the old service yard when this was Queens Park Hospital, now deserted and not seen by most visitors.
5. Up to this point my mooching have been retentively solitary.
6. It was visiting time by now, and the queue to get in was backing up to the main road.
7. Bumper to bumper parking, and £1.90p for three hours, the building on the left is one of the few remaining buildings that were part of the original mental hospital section.
8. And so to today, my old "mess room" at Haworth Park.
9. The trees are laden with berries.
10. Time to head back.

Here are a couple of shots from the sale just before we let the public in, and a couple off my balcony to show the first snowfall of the year so far.

The snow has all gone now, but it's grey, damp and cold. More white stuff to come before too long - just glad I don't live in Buffalo USA, only a few hours south of me. They had over 7 feet of snow in a record short time, poor beggars!

Your time and effort were worth it Carolyn. Would love to have been to your sale it looks really great - lots of original pieces which would make lovely Xmas presents - hope it went well :)

A walk this afternoon - very autumnal. I was hunting funghi to photograph and met a pensioner (Gian-Franco) who was looking for them to take home and eat! The bird I crept up on in a field earlier - there were a lot of them and I couldn't believe how close I got without them flying away! They were decoys laid by local hunters :D Luckily no-one saw me creeping up on them!

Today in Pictures was undertaken when a bit of sleet followed by hailstone was occurring as we set off. Therefore where can we go today, perhaps its time to wet the gusset again.

1. Not sure if that building has a name, it is at the end of Pot House Lane looking in the direction of "Ossy"
2. The new overflow appears to be overflowing more than usual, and has a lot of peat in it, hence the brown colour as it flows off "Ossy Moor"
3. And here we are at the wet bit.
4. At some point the water must get to a flow that moves those rocks.
5. Keep this viewpoint in mind for the last few photos, it will show how one gets a moist gusset.
6. A slight detour up a stream that feeds into the main one.
7. Another stream that starts its life on the moors.
8. Right....time to take this moist thing seriously.
9. Its amazing how easy it is to get wet right past your plimsoll line.
10. So having swam up the waterfall like a salmon returning to its spawning ground, time to look back, and think, I'm getting to old for this stuff.

So it was time to leave Jackhouse Reservoir and head for home, at this point I have a couple of dogs who are wetter than a very wet thing with extra wet bits.

Today in Pictures was a wet and windy experience, and the weather was not much better either.

1. Not a full walk around the park (Oak Hill), just the rockery from the main gate.
2. Its all a bit muggy really.
3. Aiming for the sky.
4. It all feels a bit moist.
5. Heading back to the car.
6. Slight detour.

Sure you aren't just looking for an excuse to have a long, leisurely soak in the tub with a mega shot of Drambuie?:D Or better still, an injury that puts you out of the shoveling game until, let's say, next June.:alright:

Come to think of it, I'm reminded of an Andy Capp cartoon ... "Flo, you shouldn't be pushing a [snow shovel] like that. Put your back into it.";)

Looks like it was a beautiful day but cold - the long walk will have warmed you no doubt Margaret! When did it snow? Love those cheeky sheep and the reflected sky in 10 is beautiful. What was happening on the water - some kind of sponsored paddle?

It was cold but I had my three layer jacket on and it kept me toasty warm......but I did get very wet and muddy at one point(walking around the reservoir there is no shelter at all).
It was the Canoe clubs Festive paddle.......not for charity...just for fun...and a pie and peas lunch.
It didn't snow, it just pelted down some hailstones.

I went out and about yesterday with my camera, but it was such a dismal day that I captured very little.....so my posting today is a mixture of yesterday and last week.
1) The spiral staircase in Toad Hall.I can tell you that this took some getting used to.
2) The cosy living room at Toad Hall...a grand name for a little weavers cottage.
3) Another view of the living room.
4) A front door dressed in its Christmas best.
5) The quaint cottages at Clog Heads
6) A lovely place to have a lunch with a pint of something cold.
7) A Christmas tree in a field.......all lit up.
8) This was a 'davemac' moment......where does that go? Oh yes, it was wet and muddy too so I must have been doing it right
9) This is the point I gave up on this muddy path......I know...I'm a lightweight.
10 Time to head for home.

4-10 are from yesterday.
I hope you enjoy them...though nothing spectacular.

That is the rocket at the top taken at max zoom on my mobile still look's small doesn't it?

Notice the Cosmonaut on the left hand side, steps lead up for kids to go
shake his hand.

look at the people to the left for an idea of scale.

O.K. inside the museum where to start well lets start with a rare pic of Roy doing his 'Sky At Night' looking intelligent pose next to something none of us know about:-

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-C...221_140001.jpg

That is the automated luna-9 space station.

How about This?

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-b...221_145353.jpg

Built by the Americans, bought by the Russians, an off shore comms sattelite launcher.

The exhibit is so large I naturally had to pay a visit!

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-g...221_135226.jpg

Well, Got to change subject even though there is so much to show.

Allright one more from space, would you believe this shower curtain is a 'docking hatch'?

It's a fantastic city, I don't have time to focus on one image without noticing a better one just out of view!

Have only scraped the surface, I'm just finishing my pint after a metro journey dropping the kids off. Basically got tomorrow off so time to stand and stare, day after Moscow state circus and other stuff, my brain and phone are on overdrive.

:)

Looks fine on my laptop, just enjoy the chance of a good moan and then do your thing in the administrators section.

(Less limps off mumbling about administrators the world over doing a job they enjoy but only if they can find something to moan about).:)

It is good to be able to see Moscow without having to do a tedious flight.

So here we go again, apologies for the first one it's yesterday in pictures:-

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-8...221_210915.jpg

It seems during his time in power, Lenin had seven buildings like this put up around Moscow, I'm now on a quest to find the other six.

Today because we weren't meeting the family until later, we got on the metro and then off at a random site, it was next to one of the Cities many Circus sites:-

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-l...222_154103.jpg

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-c...222_154136.jpg

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-R...222_154644.jpg

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-t...222_154717.jpg

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-o...222_154735.jpg

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-G...222_154801.jpg

I'd just taken the pic's before a whole host of kids were let loose after going to the Circus 5 minutes later I'd never have got the pic's, the children were allowed, no, encouraged to climb over these statues, no wonder the statues are so shiny!

Apologies to Mick for ignoring his hint.:D

Well we headed out earlier to visit a garden full of Russian dolls I was looking forward to showing them.
We fought our way through a snow storm, (well actually a flurry or two), only to find they store them away in winter.

That is a bit like me going to Halifaxt to snap pictures of Piece Hall.....and finding it has closed for two years to be done up.
OK, so it isn't a trip to Russia.....it just felt like it....you do have to go through Todmorden!

As one who supports the Bah Humbug movement I wont state one of the obvious greetings of this time, but just to say
Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be,
and whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace with your soul.
With all its shams, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful
Strive to be happy
Max Ehrmann.

Right back to the job in hand, some from last Saturday around Dean Clough, and the rest from today up a wet Coppice.

1. Another one arrives, doesn't appear to upset the wildlife by the black jobbies flying around.
2. Heading down to the reservoirs.
3. With the water to my back, it really is that inclined although it looks like the camera is tilted.
4. A shot into the intermittent light.
5. Looking down the length of the lower reservoir.
6. Looking back as we head up the Coppice, this path has got steeper over the last year, well that's what my legs are telling me.
7. Were gonna need a bigger coat.
8. They turn whether we watch them or not.
9. Accrington, not a sleigh or flake of snow in sight.
10. There are eight million stories in the naked city, this has been one of them.

Re: Today in pictures

I was out and about in Trawden this morning.
The sky was bright blue and clear......the Christmas bells rang out from St Mary's church.
I did a circular walk and took some pics.....
The Sun Inn........the pet sheep at the school(who seemed to be lonely because it came to the fence to be petted).
Some doors decorated with Christmas wreaths.....Dog walkers......bare trees on the top of far hills.
I took all these pictures.
So where are they then?
In the camera, sitting in my daughters house.
So I will post them tomorrow.....if that's alright with you

Before breakfast on Christmas morning, I took a circular walk round the village of Trawden.
These pictures were all taken on this walk.
1) Looking down on the village from the top of the hill.
2) A bird......not sure if it is a thrush.
3) The village schools pet sheep. She seemed lonely and came up to the fence to have her head tickled.....it made my day(simple soul that I am).
4)The road up to the church(and there were people on the step waiting to go in.
5) Looking down the main street.
6) I don't think Santa went down this chimney.
7) A well dressed door......this may be making an appearance on next years Christmas cards.
8) A colourful wreath.
9) and another.
10 St Mary's church....and people going in for the Christmas service.

A rare outing beyond the borough boundary, Calf Hey Reservoir.

1. Driving through clouds I thought visibility would be pants, however it cleared up yards before arriving.
2. More ice than snow.
3. The light is changing minute by minute, Musbury Heights on the right.
4. One of the many streams that tinkle into the reservoir.
5. The water is calm, so heavy with reflections.
6. The remains of an old weavers small holding.
7. I saw this and thought of sausages.
8. Apparently its legal around here......getting your baubles out.
9. You would think this is miles from habitation, because it is.
10. I thought as I was taking this, the reflection looks like a Blue Whale.
