A few days ago, I was going down into the basement of my local craft centre. I looked out the window and saw this forlorn little creature. Can you see him, crouching on the tree branch? It must be an incredibly hard winter over here for all the wild creatures.:(

You beat me to it with the last two, they are on my list of snaps to take in the dark. Number 9 is the one for me.

Those are great pics, but I especially like the last three. They all have something in them that makes me wish I had been there to snap the shot.

Today in Pictures, it was a nice day, and I ended up staying out a lot longer than expected, Pendle Hill on a nice day seems to distort time.

1. This building was once on a farm track.
2. The Craggs.
3. I suffered to get this moist moment, I got both of my feet trapped under a tree root as I walk towards it, the next second is a bit of a blur, but I ended up face down in the moss (it tastes like chicken) with my arms stretched out in front of me, a bit like superman in flight but without the altitude. The two dogs with me thought I was playing so decided to wet my ears, so a first for me, moist from tip to toe, plus as a bonus, my ear holes. I also had this strange urge to sing Mammy
4. I wouldn't normally put the horizon in the middle, but this is one of those snaps.
5. Some rusty bits, no idea what they are.
6. Chase me.
7. I was given a sign, my path is clear.
8. Now that tree has had a hard life.
9. That's tree mendous.
10. The old water bailiffs house, now a private dwelling, the view from the house is priceless.

Number 3 was worth all the suffering. I always wondered what moss tastes like - now I wonder no more! Great photos, Dave.

Its a step forward if the auto mode is not used, I use aperture priority and let the camera sort out the shutter speed on 100 ISO. But we all have our own way of shooting and the one that feels comfortable is the right way.

Today in Pictures, parking on Grane Road I wondered where that footpath went, I sort of knew, but not what I would find along the way.

1. That's the direction.
2. The place is littered with the stumps of old dwellings.
3. Remnants of the industrial revolution in the shadow of the generating revolution.
4. We are walking along an old cart track that would have been the access to the smallholdings and looms that operated in the area.
5. In places the old cart track has vanished.
6. Some styles just test the resolve.
7. Now the wet bits, first jump in.
8. This stream feeds into the top end of Calf Hey Reservoir.
9. I am getting my head wet with this shot.
10. I must visit this section of wet bits again with my tripod.

Great Shots Dave.Last time we walked around there with our last dog we were confronted with an angry farmer promising to shoot our dog if we didn't put him on a lead.

There was no one about, I never met anyone either on the way down or back up. There were sheep in some of the fields obviously ready to lamb, so the lead was on in those fields.

It was about 11 years since we were up there, hopefully the old farmer has moved away.

I like looking around the area, and I have still to walk a lot of paths I saw but don't know where they go. I have never come across any farmer on my walks, but saying that is tempting fate.

Beware of angry farmers,I hear they can be very touchy when it comes to their livestock.
Even to the point of violence if your dogs off the lead

I am always aware of livestock, and if any are present it is always a lead. Although I have never happened across a farmer, angry or otherwise disposed, he would be on this thread should he accost me, that's provided he didn't insert my camera some where that I didn't have a large aperture.

Supposedly a Belgian Shepherd (Malinois), she does have the looks but not the colouring to my mind, she's also got no pedigree papers that we know of. We got her when she was 6 months old from friends who couldn't manage her, they paid €500,00 for her, seems steep to me & I think they may well have been done. :o

I am glad you like some of my pics. Yes I have quite a few pics......but you are looking at about 7 years worth of selected pictures on my Flickr site...so not that many really.
As for being a dark horse.....well, I like to think I can take pics.....I also like to think I can write too (check out my blogs when you have a week free to read -there are a lot of them too) - but neither of these talents would ever make me a living.....so I guess I am only half as good as I like to think I am. :D

There was only one thing wrong - it went by far too quickly.
I wished I could have gone again yesterday(the last of his shows in Manchester)...well except I was tired from burning the candle at both ends.

Before I went to look at the progress being made on the Tod curve I had a wander around the town.
I took a few random photos of the place where I spent a lot of my life.
The good old White Hart was a cracking pub but now is Weatherspoons, once again street furniture spoils a decent photo.

No.7 There are a few shops hanging over the river and years ago there was even a pub called The Grapes.
No.10 Stansfield Hall, behind my sisters house, looks like the gates have been weighed in.

At €500 it would suggest she is indeed a pedigree,No need for papers really unless you plan on breeding/profiting.

No.10 Stansfield Hall, behind my sisters house, looks like the gates have been weighed in.

Nice pics G :D

Yes Russell I agree with you about the street furniture does spoil good shots, especially the yellow lines

Really interesting concert photos, Margaret! It's difficult capturing concerts - I tried many times in my youth (Queen, ELP, Genesis etc. - I am showing my age, I realize that)

Public Service Announcement: "If you drink, don't drive" (Lorsqu'on boit, on ne conduit pas ... I have francophone friends:D)

Anyone coming to my place for a few drinks (Jim Beam, last nite) and a few pipes of good Afghani black doesn't drive home ... after the second drink, it's hand over your keys, which spend the nite in my pete. The body you can see in my recliner in the second pic is a friend of mine, quite happily and noisily sleeping it off.:D It doesn't add much to the picture, but it beats the hell out of spending the nite in the tank.

Do you use jig rigs with multiple hooks? I've Never tried ice fishing but I've seen brilliant results from jig rigs.Do you eat the fish or do you catch an release?...

...Also do you see fishing as a blood sport? (Just asking) :D

For ice fishing, jigs are good for just about anything: lake trout, walleye, perch, whitefish ... But perch do have a fondness for minnows. Depending on the size, I eat the fish. And it's not really a blood sport ... although I have to admit that it's a fun thing to do, I don't really see it as "sport" ... if it is a sport then I would fail the drug tests:D Some of the best ice fishing around is in the Bay of Quinte, about a half hours drive west of here.

Fishing in Bay of Quinte Region & Lake Ontario » Bay of Quinte Tourism

I enjoy eating fish. And if it ends up on my plate, it has to be killed. I don't "harvest" fish; many I catch right back into the water.

And to keep on topic;), if I go out again this year, I'll take my camera with me and get some pics.

That's an impressive set of wet bits, plus the slow shutter speed does wonders for the water flow, are you on a tripod ?

Today in Pictures, another rainy day, but I was determined to find a footpath that I was told was there.

1. You wouldn't want to sit on that.
2. That's Whalley Viaduct in the distance.
3. Its a long time since that was occupied.
4. Whalley Nab in the distance.
5. I used to know the name of this folly, but for the moment it escapes me.
6. You can see this line of trees from Hyndburn, it looks like a forest but close up all the trees have been felled.
7. The point of the walk today, the mast on Pendleton Moor.
8. Its a harsh environment up here.
9. I didn't see the bird until now.
10. Almost back to base, Whalley Nab.

No tripod, I have been thinking of getting one of those little gorilla tripods, but for now, just rested on whatever I can find.

Thanks, like I said I rest the camera on something to keep it steady, a rock, jumper, anything I have to hand, then use the 10s timer to give it time to settle after pressing shutter. Most difficult bit is getting it level, had to straighten these later.

Because I like to stay in my car and keep dry (no wet gusset) I use this little attachment to hold the camera. It is very stable and will support the camera even when the 400mm lens is attached, the lens has a tripod clamp so the weight is balanced.

I use a either a two second shutter delay or an app on the iphone which controls the shutter remotely, the iphone screen shows the same scene as the camera viewfinder and avoids camera shake when the shutter is pressed.
OK, it's not much use scrambling through the undergrowth but I leave that to the davemacs of this world.

I also have a monopod which has a rubber grip to screw on to it's thread so it doubles as a walking aid. It was about thirty quids and is worth every one of them.
