I really do take a second dog sometimes, a very active Jack Russell, his owner died 6 months ago and I help his widow with walkies.

I am still investigating invisibility, but the book that contains the instructions..............I haven't been able to find it.

The snow shots are nice from a distance, another thing if its up to your armpits. Nice surprise that fox.

I think photography is a very interesting pursuit, but you have to have suitable subjects to photograph, and techniques that show the subject off to its best advantage.......Dave you have those skills(in spades). You seem to have a good eye for composition of shots(though how I would know that seeing as I have had absolutely no training,is beyond me)
If you get the right shot, then there is little that needs to be done to tweak it.....maybe a crop but anything else is extra and unwarranted.

This is just my opinion - though I bet there are others out there who will agree with me.
You have taken some shots that I would give my eye teeth for...so stop messing!

I don't really tweak all that much, if I do its usually a crop , lighten, darken, perhaps a change in the temperature. Its good to know how to if you have to. My interest is being out there taking the snap, but with the digital age come some requirements to tweak.
Thanks for the kind words, I think my skill if I have any, is the fact that I enjoy taking photos, for me, it is my refuge from all the pressures that life pushes on you. I find when I am taking pictures the rest of the world fades away at the edges, also when I say to my wife "I will only be an hour" she knows that is not going to happen, and an hour can multiply to three.

Dave you sell yourself short.
Your pictures have brought the outdoors in.....for those who cannot get out and about.
I'm sure your good lady understands that when you are engrossed in taking pictures time just slips by....and you could be doing many things that would be much worse.
The time she needs to worry is when Bob comes home clean and dry and you smell of stale beer!

1.As we head uphill, a quick look back.
2.to 8, a compendium of moist moments and more wet bits than you can shake a sausage at.
9. Edna, yes George, can you hear a whooooshing.
10. This was the highest point we went, its a good job I had a pocket full of crampons.

I have taken that wheel before, I think its an old cart that was used in the quarry above, and just got pushed over the edge. I wondered, as I was in the area, would I take a different picture this time, as it was over 18 months since my last picture. One thing remained constant, I still got wet trollies.

I love the warm colours in number 4 and also what you've done with number 5 - number 6 is as good as the last one youtook from a different angle - you should be getting really fit with all this fell walking!

Thanks, that's a good question that i could, probably will end up going into one about.but in short:
I often find myself torn between respecting folks right not to have someone on their property an pursuing my hobby/interest.
I am no way claiming to be a law guru, but,Trespass is a civil offence, except on certain sites ( military, heritage, railways, government an a few others). It is up to the landowner to press charges, the Crown won't.
Police under direction from the landowner have the right to remove you from their property using reasonable force. However you may also be arrested till the police are enlightened as to what you was upto.

As I've mentioned somewhere before I NEVER cause damage to gain entry to a property, and my signature says the rest ;)
Hope this helps,if you want me to go into one just ask :p

I think you are brave to even think about going into some of those places.
Your pics are interesting, and give us an insight into the dereliction that is in our midst.
It is sad when buildings fall into such disrepair...especially when they have previously served the community well.
I am sure more could be done to make some of these premises habitable spaces, either for work or for living.
You just need to be able to think outside the box(I hate that phrase, but cannot think of another that encapsulates what i mean)

I appreciate all the pictures that are put into this thread.
It means that we are able to see places that perhaps we would not visit/be able to visit from the comfort of our own home.
They give us an interesting window on the world that we would not otherwise see.

Now the paths are in, although not finished yet, it makes it a clean walk when other walks are under water. I have noticed an increase in usage as well, even when the weather is pants.

Firstly I'm sorry if you found my replie defensive,it wasn't my intention.
Now,As far as I'm aware trespass only becomes a criminal offence if it is aggravated trespass,
which was brought in under http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1994/33/contents.
Aggravated trespass takes place when the trespasser trespasses to disrupt or attempt to disrupt any lawful activity taking place on that property or adjoining property.

It is against the law to trespass on any land , river, lake as well as any building.
Ignorance of that fact is no defence under this law.
(Touch wood) I've never really had a run in with the law, although I've read a few posts off folk that have.I don't think it's in the public interest to persue a case for someone taking pics of a building, especially if your a butterfly enthusiast and you saw a rare one fly in,You couldn't miss the chance to snap that pic ;)

I neither found it defensive or anything else, the typed word is very difficult to get the emotion behind it right, just wondered what would happen if I mooched around an open building.

Last year the bluebells were that late it was almost summer by the time they were out, and even then they didn't flower all at the same time, so they went of for a while, but without the impact of large swathes of flowers.
The ground here is saturated, and large areas I walk in are covered in mud and water, we have had a sink hole in Baxenden to the rear of houses (only know what is in the papers) and I think that is a result of all this rain. It was over old mine workings.

Apparently it started in the yard of 536 Manchester Rd.The Coal Authority may not have detailed plans of the workings. You can go to view what they have at the Mining Record Office by appointment. They have a website.
The last thing they will do tho is admit liability for this major subsidence,It becomes a long drawn out legal matter. They are supposed to have historical liability for pre 1947 workings but in practice they will do their best to get out of that liability (No surprise there then).

Been to Scotland quite a lot & you really do need to give yourself plenty of time as there's so much to see.

And you need to get a grip & get yourself to a Distillery or several. :D

Last set from Scotland.

1. The only pic I got in Inverness was this bright rainbow.
2-4. Foyers falls, I don`t think even Davemac would want to get too close to this 165 foot waterfall.
5. The road back to Fort Augustus, an 80 mile drive around the Loch almost complete.
6. Ruins of an old bridge.
7. A closer pic of Nessie.
8. Last one of the Stag, yes same to you.
9. The Nevis Range cable cars were closed due to high winds.
10. Another big waterfall, this one in Glencoe.

We have booked a cottage near Forres in May and I'm going to Chanonry Point to see if I can get some pics of the Dolphins there. It is suppost to be one of the best places in the world to spot dolphins so near the shore

That sounds excellent, good luck, I would love to see wild dolphins. Closest I`ve come to anything like that is Basking Sharks off the coast of Cornwall and there was a beached whale in Egypt a few years ago that got pulled back into the sea by a big boat. Unfortunately I didn`t see it as I had Cairo Tummy.:pain30:

I'm just getting caught up with all the wonderful photos of the past couple of days. It's too late to comment on them all, but thanks to our great photographers for sharing. I'm still reeling from seeing bluebells, daffodils and crocuses growing up at this time of year - almost too much for my snow- buried soul to endure! And the scenes of Scotland - gorgeous - I love the cheeky deer shots! The views from Memorial Park are gorgeous - I always have a soft spot for that. Just remembered seeing an aviary of budgies there when I visited as a lass. And the exploration views of Accrington - a real treat. Thanks all!

Well - has been a feast of a catch-up! :) Love the Scottish photos - did you pre-book the rainbows G-P? The miniaturization of the viaduct is a very clever effect too. Nice photos about town/Ossy and B'burn from our urban explorer and Dave of your Harwood photos I loved number five of Pendle Hill best - great colours -it looks like a tapestry! I was stuck in for a few days with rain - feeling depressed - cheered up no end today -first because the sun was out and I had a long walk and now because of the lovely photos I've seen here and the company of all your comments and exchanges. Hope my own efforts from today are acceptable - still using my little camera - it's struggling to zoom in and out -perhaps affected by the recent damp weather! I plan a trip to a camera shop in Cremona tomorrow to try handling some camera's (Dave's good advice as I don't know how/where to start looking for one!) - I have a free day all to myself and a look round the new violin museum is also planned -hope they'll let me take some photos!

Today's walk out to a farm a few miles away - half restored beautifully in one part and crumbling away in the other part across the lane. The whole dates to the same period but the restored part was the original owner's villa and the chapel. (I have put some photos of this on before - there's a gorgeous courtyard with pool which was closed today!) Hope you'll appreciate the contrast - especially between the new and old arched entrance doors - the old one has a very old faded sundial on the wall and the road into the place (last shot) still has the old 1940's street lamp and original milestones. Number 6 is what lies behind the place - the Alps are hinted at in the cloud line!

Lol! I thought that while there - you'd have gone into all the most dangerous bits where the roof beams had fallen in and past the signs saying "Entry forbidden"!:D There are loads of CCTV cameras covering the place from the restored side - rumour has it that the owners have had their assets frozen as they are under scrutiny for possible fraud/money laundering (that word that begins with a capital "M" and is well-known as being "made in Italy" ;) )

You have access to some very interesting architecture and landscapes, what was the thinking behind the door in number 1, nice selection today. Who's idea was it to knock a hole through an old wall mounted sundial to put some wires through, smacked legs for that one.

Well done! I almost feel like I'm looking at a miniature landscape from a model railway or something like that. There's a miniature village not too far from me - you can walk through scaled down streets and buildings. This photo effect gives the feeling of being somewhere like that. Cool!

I suppose the lack of food due to the snow will entice them to the bird table, that will make them sitting ducks so to speak, for the camera.

Yes, I have witnessed a few incidents where a hawk (either a Cooper's hawk or a Sharp Shinned) swooped down, caught and feasted on one of the diners at my table. I felt awful, and considered my bird feeder a trap for the innocent. But I also saw that not all hawk attacks were successful - there'd be a flutter of wings and everybody disappeared. After all, I guess hawks have to eat too.

Today's trip out into Cremona and the museum was slightly marred by the weather. It was only light rain when getting to the museum, where I had a nice lunch in their trendy bar/restaurant. Also you weren't allowed to take photos inside the museum which was a real shame as it is very interesting architecturally and for the actual collection of violins. It's very state of the art, multi-media and interactive - you have a little handset which gives you an audio tour -it activates automatically depending on which part of the museum you're in. You go into a little workshop where the sights, sounds and smells of a violin-makers workshop are recreated and can activate films on special tables showing all the various parts of the violin, how they are made and put together. The technique is more or less exactly as it was in the time of the 3 great violin-makers from Cremona - Andrea Amati, Guarneri and Antonio Stradivari whose work covers from about 1580 through to the early 1700's. There is a violin in the collection which was made for the court of Henry VIII ! Some of them are beautifully decorated - unbelievable workmanship and they are worth a fortune.
1 Arrival at the museum -light rain!
2-5 Inside the bar/restaurant "Chiave di Bacco" (Bacchus's Key) - the ceiling is covered in musical scores and the large illuminated squares are some of the walls of the museum which is on the first floor.
6 Advert for the museum showing the most precious part of the collection
7 Suspended advert for the museum on the old tram lines.
8 The courtyard and sculpture -taken when leaving
9 Leaving the museum in heavy rain
10 Statue of Antonio Stradivari in the piazza in Cremona which bears his name -he looks pretty wet as I was at this point -no brolly!

Good photos on this link show what the museum is like inside - the auditorium is constructed to be like the inside of a violin and is very impressive -also it is designed to be acustically perfect so wherever you sit you hear the music perfectly.
