And today we have a warm gentle rain .... the old City looks green and lush .... the down side of all this is that the Buskers Festival is in town this weekend, and rain doesn't go well with sidewalk entertainment ....

A great day .... the running of the moose was fun (like the running of the bulls, but the moose are faster and deadlier) ... petting the grizzlies ... baby seal clubbing contest ... whale blubber eating contest .... good clean Canadian fun:D

That too ... but Canadians can't resist the opportunity of some good, clean, dangerous fun (baby seal clubbing is not dangerous, but what Canadian can resist this form of recreation) .... did I mention the skunk petting zoo;)

Eric...you have left yourself wide open for this one.
Two years ago I was in Pamplona for the running of the bulls.
Three 'Jack the Lads' from Canada dressed only in red thongs that left nothing to the imagination had the impression that the thongs would prevent a horn up the arse....wrong.
You have to be very brave or very stupid to attempt the bull run and these three characters....part drunk I might, add paid the penalty of having an extraction, and I don't mean teeth.
Leave it to the locals....they know best. :D

Ah, my fellow countrymen, always up for a good time, crazy Canucks .... what can you expect from a nation that invented hockey .... :D

Very few people remember the 2nd Battle of Ypres in 1915, when the Germans used poison gas for the first time, Chlorine gas .... after the French legged it (developing a strategy they used to good effect in 1940) the crazy canucks of the First Canadian Division peed on their handkerchiefs, stuck them on their faces, and drove the Germans back at bayonette point .... after this, tangling with bulls, even if you are wearing only a thong the color of the Maple Leaf, is a piece of cake.;)

We had quite a storm here between 4 and 5 a.m. this morning. It was right overhead for about 15 minutes and damned loud. The rain started at about 4.30 and by 5 it was torrential. It had all cleared up by 8 and it's been a nice sunny day, though not as stifling hot as the last few days, until 5 o clock when thunder started rumbling around again but only a bit of rain.

We had one of the wettest July's on record .... but the up side of this is that the city looks lush and green, and the trees are doing espescially well .... it's like living in a forest in certain parts of the city.

For the next few days, hot and sunny, with the chance of an evening shower or thunderstorm .... temps will peak early next week in the low 30s, then, if the long range forcast holds, hovering around normal (25c) for the first part of August.

We would play in the fields, and it was a seed that curled up into a little ball and would stick to anything, little spikey things they were and impossible to get off, we used to throw them at each other and if one landed in your hair you had to wait till you got home so your mum could comb it out! You dont see them anymore, unless its coz im a grown up now and dont play out lol

The Eccles Cake shop, the original one, is opposite the Norman Church on Church Street, its a lovely little church. There is a floral graden in remembrance of Diana just outside it now. The eccles cake shop is a deli. The name Eccles is derived from Eclesiastic, so when you have an eccles cake, you better say a prayer! lol

Re: weather??

After a week of stormy unsettled weather, we a settling in for a spell of warm (25c) clear, sunny days, with cool clear nights. Great late summer weather, and a bonus for local farmers who will soon have to get the harvest in. And great weather for the annual Limestone City Blues Festival with Watermelon Slim, and the C.O.R.K. regatta .... This part of Lake Ontario offers some of the finest sailing conditions in the world.

Damn; I love where I live:D:D:D

Re: weather??

You can all hate me for this; but the weather here is great ... beautiful, clear, sunny days, cooling off nicely at night. And it looks like this will hold for a few days ... the only nasty thing in the near future is that US tropical storm ... even this far north we feel some of the effects.

If the days are nice, the cool nites don't bother me ... last nite was cool and clear, the stars were out in force and the moon was bright. I sat out on my deck, with a bottle of wine, and my telescope, plugged in my walkman, and had a great old time. Damnit, I love where I live;):D:D
