Some pics from a weekend in the Lake District.

1. On the cliffs of Whitehaven.
2. Whitehaven again from the shore looking towards the harbour and where pic 1 was taken in the background.
3. Crummock Water.
4-7. Some very nice (if obscenely expensive) cars on the car park of Honister Slate Mine.
8. The best I could get with my gear, but the RSPB had some very high powered telescopes where you could clearly see an Osprey (follow the fence to where it meets the trees and up slightly).
9. Ullswater steamer.
10. Ullswater Lake.

Love number 10...it gives the sense of a huge sky and the solitude.
I have never been a fan of the lake district. It has always rained when I have gone...and that puts me off.
It reminds me a lot of Wales...that is not a nice place to be when the mist comes down either....I am sure the Lake district is beautiful when the sun shines...it just never has for me.

Lovely shots Jen.
I walked down to the post office on the square earlier in the week.
I was surprised to see Bluebells along the side of the path. I can't remember seeing them there in years gone by.
I wondered if someone had planted them to make the path a bit more interesting.

Of all the changes in Accy since I was a little squirt, the change to the slopes of The Coppice are up there. Hard to imagine we used to slide down the exposed scarp on bits of cardboard and try to set fire to the grass tussocks everywhere else. Other than a few wind blown hawthorns, there was barely a tree to be seen in those long lost days on the western foothills.

What you can see is an old metal boundary fence, it is still there and runs for some distance along what I am guessing is the boundary between the old Plantation Mill and the Coppice. As for the trees, the Coppice used to be covered in trees but were lost during the industrial revolution, so the recent plantings have attempted to return the Coppice to its previous state, it also stabilised the front of the area that was slipping off the shale base it is sat on. Incidentally the name Coppice is the practice of cutting back trees to the base to produce long branches for use in things like fencing, so as the name suggests an area of dense managed trees.

Fungi are very numerous and to be specific is a bit difficult without a bit of homework, best guess would be a Polypore, and one that thrives amongst Beech trees, however it is nice to be thought of as an expert even if I am nowhere near.

Sunday a visit to "Vulgaria" (Rothenburg ob der Tauber) looked high & low for a "Kid Ctcher" but he must have been on a day off! Anyways. plenty of other stuff to see ....

Markt platz - Klingentor - Altes Rathaus seen from Obere Schmiedgasse - Siebersturm - Inside the walls of the "Spital Bastion" (x2) - Eeh, I want that one full of beer please ..... classic "Touristy tat" (x2) - Mid June, Scorchio & ooh look! Monday 12 June & I was persuaded to become a "Pedestrian!" (Shock, Horror!) for the day. The jallopy was to be left parked at home (A somewhat daunting prospect for a vehiclist like me, feets is for pushing pedals & as for walking somewhere???) & I was introduced to the vagaries, novelty & dubious pleasure of "Buying a ticket" then travelling on the München, U-Bahn & S-Bahn, with all kinds of strange people going to all kinds of strange places. :D

Viktualienmarkt where we had brekky (x2) - Neues Rathaus in Marienplatz & a close up of the Glockenspiel figures (x2) - Karlstor - Neuhauser strasse looking to the twin domes of the Marienkirche - The Hirmer building, built 1912-14 with the Marienkirche domes in the background - The "Olympiasee" part of the 1972 "Olympia park" built for the Summer Olympics (see what all this walking does for you, the Witchitty one & a couple of kids dunking their feet & poisoning the wildlife :D (x2) - The Isar, running through the "English Garden".

So Wednesday 14 June came around it was off to where my single life began its demise oh so many years ago ..... Sonthofen & the Allgäu. Think Heidi, the sound of music & Bell & Sebastian you get a general idea of the place then.

Sonthofen (x4) Hirsch Brauerei gasthof & Hotel, surrounding mountains, formerly the "Schwarze Peter" (it was better looking place then, like many things at the time) one of the places where my fall from grace began :D, time for a spot of "Man Shopping!" - It doesn't get much more picture book than this - That reminds me, we need to pick up some Beers for your mum! ;) - The river Lech by Lechbruck - "WiesKirche" pilgrimage chapel - A local farmhouse - Need I say anything? :)

Thurs 15 June 2017, in certain states it was a religious holiday so the roads were heaving & so were the attractions. We headed off towards the "Bayerische Wald" & would you believe it, there are at least 3 (THREE) Brauereien within half an hour of each other! How amazing is that? There's other stuff to, so we did that first to prevent an outbreak of hostilities. :)

Weinfurtner "Das Glasdorf" (x4) all kinds of decorations made from glass produced on site & various shops selling the stuff too - Dampfbier Brauerei Zwiesel - (x3) Oh look, a "Zitronen Falter" (a German play on words there), a cool refreshing cloudy, lemony shandy from the JB Falter privat Brauerei in Regen, the "Bier Garten" & the Brauerei Gasthof with the old boy at the "Stammtisch" - (x2) Tiesnach, the "Ettl Brauerie" Gasthof & Coppers.

Two from Goodrich Castle, Wye Valley. I think I've got the size right this time.

All three photos looked really good on an iPad, Gremlin, and opened quickly. Look forward to seeing more.

Thanks EoSS
I use a full frame camera and the files are enormous so it's a balance between keeping the quality and making them small enough to post here.
I use Nikons web site to post a lot of my photos and file sizes aren't limited.

We stayed at an 11 century priory for a week overlooked by Goodrich castle. just a few photos I took.

No. 1, The Priory.
No 2, View from the rear looking across the river Wye to a good restaurant.
No. 3, looking down to the priory from the castle.

T'others are in the castle.

Thanks Margaret. The forecast kept saying heavy rain around the area but as you can see from the photos we seemed to miss it.
Only four weeks to go then it's back to Angelsey.

My friend's brother has a lovely house on Angelsey looking over the sea.
We have an open invitation and take advantage of it.

We are hoping to visit Plas Newydd again, the place you put me onto last time. I want to see the painting by The Whistler again.
Port Merion is on the cards as well.

You really know how to twist the knife Russell:).

Those two places are my favourites. To walk down the cloister of trees at Plas Newydd....to sit looking at the Britannia bridge.
I would love to stay at Port Meirion....to wake up looking across the water.
They are both food for the soul.
What joys you have in store.
