Re: Today in pictures
Oo-er...that is different.
Not keen on the subject matter, but the definition is superb. Well shot. I want to click like...but only for the skill in taking the shot. |
Re: Today in pictures
Thanks, this particular lens is quite difficult to use at best as it's fully manual, even more so using the extension tube, so focusing for this was done using a macro rail on a tripod, the macro rail moves the camera and lens closer or further away in very small increments by turning a dial...
I did try and remove those hairs but couldn't actually see them with the naked eye... |
Re: Today in pictures
I don't think they take anything away from the picture...and you can't remove what you can't see.

This is Samson.
He has been living in our garage for about a year. I don't know who he really belongs to, because he never seems to go anywhere. We feed him, he has a nice bed and toys in the garage...and himself said I was to have no ideas about letting him into the house(especially since we got the kitties)...but I intorduced the kittens to him and Rufus loves him. Recently, himself said he could come into the house...but Samson does not seem to want to be an indoor cat. He will come in but only for a few minutes. He is a lovely cat, but timid and very wary of people he doesn't know. Yesterday he came in and had a look around the upstairs...sat in the bedroom window and then settled down on our bed for about half an hour(don't worry...I flea treat him too) so I took the opportunity to get some pics of him |
Re: Today in pictures
Samson is a really nice looking cat, it was good of you to take him in.
We have always had cats and dogs...we were down to one cat, a ginger one called Royce, he is 16 years old. The first cat we had came from the local pet shop, I went out to do the shopping on a Friday afternoon, and came back with a beautiful grey kitten. Forgot the shopping only bought kitten food, cheese and a baguette. When I finally pulled up outside the door, my husband came out, where the hell have you been, got a surprise. Is it a microwave, no. face dropped, looked in the boot of the car, where's the shopping? Look on the front seat. He said it was the best thing that ever came into the house. |
Re: Today in pictures
Like many of our previous cats...he has sort of adopted us.
He has never been thin, so I think he maybe belonged to one of the folk who rented a house in the street and when they went, theyleft him behind(how could you do a thing like that?).there was a family who moved back to Poland...maybe he was theirs...I really don't know. I feel that he may scrounge food from the workers at Express gifts, but it does not put a dent in his appetite. Though himself did not want him to come into the house, he now wants him to come in and toast his flanks in front of the log burner. Maybe he will do...one day. Bea, the story of your shopping trip is lovely...something I might do. |
Re: Today in pictures
There is a follow on to this story. This shopping trip happened about 30 years ago, we had one daughter, she was about five, she was always going on about having no brothers and sisters and no pets. This is how Misty came into our lives, she was a beautiful cat, she also had kittens, we kept one from the last litter and my husband called him BIFF, now we thought this was an OK name, until our neighbours moved in next door, or through the wall as they would say in Scotland, they came from Whitehaven. We used to shout the cats in for there food, always using there names. It took my new neighbour ages to tell me that every time we shouted BIFF, they couldn't stop laughing. A BIFF in Whitehaven is a POO. I did laugh.
Anyway we have a new grey kitten called George, hope that's not an Accrington name for a POO. Royce is not to happy but is coming around, the dog is fine. |

Thanks Dave, I had a wander up that way today. Parked up on Moorfield Industrial Estate, then along the canal past Fosters Swing Bridge to the Pipe Bridge - as it looked interesting - then back past Silcocks, through the graveyard, down Bell Lane, through the woods to the Woodlands, then back along the canal to where I started. It was getting a bit dark by then...

I use a Nikon 24-120 f4 on my Full frame cameras as a general walk around lens.
Not been down the East Lancs railway for a while. If they insists on runing smelly diesel locos I wont be hurrying back. This was a quick snap from the bridge at Ramsbottom which I thought rather atmospheric. |

Had a wander up the Martholme Greenway from Mill Lane to the viaduct, last time I came up you couldn't actually walk on the viaduct, but seems to be open now - though the Northern end is still fenced off - but you can at last walk along it's length... |
Re: Today in pictures
I took a lot of photos from the viaduct when I helped run the caravan park for a dozen years.
I used to go on from our end to check no cattle had strayed on and to check our barriers and no entry to our end signs were intact. |
