HBC are already enforcing the bedroom tax i didnt think it was coming in until may.I also know that rossendale council are penalising people for having an empty room also.

lets be frank here this bedroom tax is mainly going to effect single men and who cares about them.I know some women live alone in rented accomodation but mostly its men

within 6 months though women will be expected to only use one bedroom and have their children sleep in bed with them so it will even out eventually.

Iv also heard on teh radio that Cameron is after abolishing council tax benefit so poor folk may find themsleves even worse off than first thought

When I lived on that side of the pond, I never took all that much interest in politics ... except for budget time, complaining that my bitter would cost an extra penny a pint and tuppence more for fags:eek: Now, a few of the things that go on there surprise me. Ok, we adopted most of the British parliamentary system ... we even have a kinda House of Lords;) But this thing about housing? Why should the central government be concerning itself about this ... unless they believe that the peasants are having it a little too good:D Don't they have anything more important to deal with? Shouldn't the local authorities be dealing with this stuff? I've no doubt that the housing situation in Hyndburn is different from that of Little Muckheap on the Mould in the Cotswolds ... (I presume that's part of the Gin and Jaguar belt;)) Seems that this is definitely an issue that should be handled at the local level.

And what's the betting that the Labour run local authorities will implement it first , just so that they can shrug their shoulders and point their fingers at the big bad Tories while they do it.

And dunno about you but when I went to school 'most' meant more than half....are you seriously suggesting that more than half the police force are soon to be on the dole?

i think its up to individual housing associations when they start it, not too sure if the north west is one of the pilot areas. the council are also taking over crisis loan budgeting loans etc.the times are a changing very fast.the jobcentre dont do jobs anymore theyve paid monster.com a big wack to take that over.

over the past 20 years government has gradually shirked its resposability to ensure people arnt homeless infact the tory's are or already have removed the responsability from councils to ensure someone isnt homeless. If you go into the council now saying you have no where to live and are homeless you get told to visit a website and apply or bid on a property usually owned by private landlords or housing associations.

mind you the councils dont really have any properties because the torys sold them all off and then complained when they ened up in the hands of private landlords who then charged 3x the rent on a propperty that was origonally a low rent property

Margaret Pilkington 03-02-2013 12:07

Re: The Tories

Many of the council houses were sold to sitting tenants for a fraction of the cost of what they were worth. I know quite a few people who would not have had a hope in hell of getting together a deposit back then (when mortgages were freely available on low deposits) and became home owners by buying their council house.
What happened back then cannot be undone.....the failure has been not building affordable rental properties....and uncontrolled immigration has got to be a factor in there too.
People who come into the country want houses, which means that there just are not enough properties to go around.

Ya Uncontrolled Immigration without support is stupid, yet Blair and Brown did nothing about it, nor has Cameron either. Looking at statistics published this morning its easy to see why they want to come here

average salary for low paid workers is £17,149 in GB in Poland its £3,690 Romania £2,234 and in the next country who will be heading for here in 2014 Bulgaria its £1,654. In these countries benefits paid to jobless without children is Poland £2,712 Romania £1,239 Bulgaria £992, while in this country its £9,686. To me it makes sense to get the hell out of Europe and then the big players in the euro can take the mantle and those who are looking for a better place to live financially or live on benefits can go there instead, just in passing since the previous census to the last one the number of people with Islam as their religion has rocketed to Two and a half million and they're not here for the good weather either

Well it does for them that walk about with their head up their own arse, other people think it makes sense, the idea is to cater for your own before flooding the country with people who want to come here on the make, I think GB is the only country where you can come in one day and be strewn with gifts of cash houses anything you require, not because we're generous or out like that, we're the do gooders capital of the world, with your left wing hand ringing liberal guardianist screaming at anybody who disagrees. Try going to the states or Australia or anywhere for that matter and see if you get any joy, I believe if you want to go to Aussie you need to prove you can support yourself and have a job lined up before you go, if you want to live in the states you need sponsoring by an American citizen before they give you a visa, I know Joan's Niece lives in Dallas and her mother and father wanted to move there a few years ago, she only managed it because their daughter has now got American citizenship or they would have been up the Swanee without a paddle

Re: The Tories

I don't think it racist to tell the truth.
If people want to come here then they must first prove that they :-
1) have somewhere to live.
2) have a job they can go to.
3) have medical insurance to cover any health needs.
4)have enough funds to support themselves for at least two years.

We should stop giving benefits to those who have made no contributions in this country.
We should stop foreign aid...unless it is given in the form of credits which will be spent in goods or services which originate in this country(which would give a boost to our failing economy).
Benefits should not be paid for children who do not live in this country.
I don't know how many millions this would save, but it would perhaps ensure that some of the service cuts would not be necessary.

And John, you are spot on about Australia, and what is more...you can only get a job if there is no Australian national who either wants to do it or is qualified to do it.

I might just sqeak into Canada.......but I am neither an earner nor a breeder....and to be honest I could not face the packing.
We(as a family) had the opportunity to migrate to Australia in 1974, but I got cold feet at the thought of the medical so we didn't go. That would have been the best time to go...our daughter was only six years old and I am sure she would have adapted very well to the outdoor life.

Who knows what I would have done. I feel that I had a successful career over here.......I'm not sure I would have had the guts to take on the challenge of a new life and a totally absorbing career over in Oz...and in any case I would not have had the support network which would have allowed me to do it. Fate has me where it wants me...and where I could do the most good...or at least that is what I tell myself when all the world looks brown and crappy.

i wouldnt mind but when people say cater for those that are already here the "those that are already here" contain people from all creeds and walks of life. Its just common sense to say we have enough people thankyou try again later when a few folk have either emigrated or died off.

As for foreign aid again common sense says stop it all until we are in a position to start giving again. Why should teh citizens of a country be the only people in it together and feeling the pinch ?

I think the problem was that Blair wasn't as much interested in internal affairs as he was in foreign excursions. Brown was left with pretty much of a free hand with the economy etc. and screwed it up for all of us. Both of them were too arrogant to condone any criticism.

There again they might work on the same premise as been used in the NHS for a while now, if you get equipment from the NHS at home such as perching stools shower, seats, walking frames, foot stools, bed back rest, they are none returnable, because they say it is cheaper to replace with new that to collect and refurbish these items for reuse

It was on the news down here that the Tories - Lib Dems capped housing benefit down here so what happened is by law the council have to house you if you've had a council flat. So those that were moved had to be housed in hotels at a cost much higher than the rent would have been. So capping the housing benefit has meant people had to leave council properties and be put up in hotels costing more than the rent would have. So infact the tax payer is now paying more than before the cut!:)

from what iv read from admitidly not the best resource cameron is looking at taking away the responsability for the council to house people so the hotel issue will soon not be a hurdle for councils if true.

this con/dem lot seem to think that if an idea clearly wont work then force it to work by whatever means are needed is the way to go

one thing i would like to say is cameron is getting a lot of flak or the tory party is but lets not forget who made this all possible and done sod all to prevent it and give the Lib Dems some credit too

To be honest Eric, neither could run a booze up at Thwaites Brewery, mind you I do keep smiling every time Mr Ed has comments on present policy, we wouldn't do this, we wouldn't do that, its not doing enough (on things they actually agree on) I just sit back and think if you've got all the answers why didn't you implement them when you had the chance, labour have always been big on talk poor on action, they talk the talk but don't walk the walk:rolleyes:

I don't have a problem with voting left of centre ... in fact, I like a little more "left" than "centre" ... but "One Nation" is nothing more than an empty slogan. The sheep will follow thinking all will be equal, forgetting that some will always be more equal than others. I still don't see New Labour, or whatever you want to call it, is any more responisve to the wishes of those who vote for it than is the Conservative party. In fact, the conservatives are more likely to pursue policies which benefit their supporters, particularly the more well-heeled ones.

Yup ... when it comes to grubbing for votes all political parties have the morals of a vacuum cleaner. Come to think of it, that's being a little to generous.

The only reason you prefer the "Mail" is 'cause it can be read by those with a sight vocabulary of about 800 words. We have papers like that too ... many of them can be purchased in supermarkets. Believe it or not, the figure "800" was not picked out of thin air. (Like, for example, the number .... mmmm, let's say "13"). I remember it was back in the early '60s at Accy Grammar. In English class the teacher, Peplow I think, caught a boy reading the "Mirror" when he should have been reading "Tintern Abbey". When he was doing the bawling out, I remember the teacher mentioning that the "Mirror" was designed for readers with a sight reading vocab. of 800 words. For some reason, it stuck in my memory:confused: Go figure, eh:D

I refuse to take serious any paper that employs a left wing lunatic like Pole dance Polly, if you want a real slant on business the Guardian or Independent are out of the running Times and Telegraph, as for the Mail, can't remember the last time I even logged onto their site, in fact you quote more from the Mail than I've ever done. I agree with: "I refuse to take serious any paper ... ";) I also do that. But I guess we have to put up with that First Ammendment stuff ... even without an official, in-writing First Ammendment. It's what separates us, Canadian and British alike, from those countries governed by assorted despots, tosspots, sociopaths, criminals, and Islamists.

Still surprised though that you believe anyone could do a worse job of running the British economy than Osborne is doing. Even world class fiscal conservatives wince as he continues to cut, cut, cut, while ignoring the fact that somewhere along the line a little stimulus has to be injected. And stimulus does not involve giving tax cuts to companies who are already "legally" avoiding paying their due by using all the loopholes available to them, in the hope that these 21st century robber barons will create jobs:rofl38::rofl38::rofl38:Maybe it's time to put party ideology aside for a while, and do what's best for the country. In my unsolicited colonial opinion, getting out of the EU would be a helluva good start. The EU is not quite a sinking ship just yet. Not quite. Wasn't it Osborne who has just persuaded other world leaders to make sure multi national companies pay the taxes they should be paying. Mind you as I've said before I've not much time for Cameron, the only time he satisfy me is by giving the ordinary people in this country a referendum on Europe, then abiding by the results

Actually, both you and your archenemy are out to lunch on this one. C'mon, you failed to notice the increase in full time work, along with a fall in part time. And Jaysay, whose knowledge of economics appears to rank right up there with his spelling and his fixation on the number "13", sees cause for optimism with an economy which is using an increasing number of bodies, working for less, in real terms, to generate a zero increase in output. The only thing you got right is that "the figures don't add up." And that is cause for concern.

Re: The Tories

they are classing workfare as full time hours. so im not wrong.if tje unemployment figures are so good how come out put is falling it dont add up]• The government claims unemployment is falling, despite minimal economic growth. In fact, the government's fiddling the unemployment figures, as usual, but by a new method: counting people on "workfare" as employed – as confirmed by Department of Work and Pensions and Office for National Statistics replies to freedom of information requests published on the Informed Consent blog. Workfare makes unemployed people work unpaid for private firms, including Conservative party donors, or else lose their benefits. The government's own research shows that it doesn't improve chances of finding paid work.

ONS figures and Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development research show half the people counted as newly employed are on workfare, government training schemes, or are self-employed, mostly in part-time, low-paid jobs like gardening and cleaning, in which they may be worse off as they lose benefits. Unemployment was at 2.51m when this government came to power in May 2010. It's now at 2.53m, even on their fiddled figures.

So apparently the Tories screwed up again today with their candidate declining to take part in BBC debate. She's been pretty outspoken with some cracking 'foot in the gob' type stuff. So it's alleged that she has been deliberately hid away from any more media gaffes

Eastleigh by-election: Tories 'trying to hide candidate' Maria Hutchings - Telegraph

Anyhoo...our Dave gets a bit annoyed about this and says....

“I think the BBC has behaved badly and stupidly over this from everything I’ve heard about it. My understanding is that we were discussing with you for ages beforehand about the timing of the hustings and the fact that Maria wanted to be with me for this meeting. This is a totally got up thing by the BBC. You know you’re not the most important thing in this by-election – the candidates are.”

So there you have it folks.....straight from the mouth of the leader of the Tory party...the most important thing in this by-election are THE CANDIDATES????

Wonder how low in importance are us plebs to the tories?...you know the VOTING PUBLIC, the mugs that pay their wages!!!
